    Looks good man. I did the same thing with my girls 4th gen, but with the wide optic. Did the clear lens swap on the yellow pods to get that buttery 4000k output. Looks great. You should take a night driving video to show output of those spots!

    If you use a different lense such as flood or wide will make the amber backlights a lot brighter useful for drl

      It would be great if DD did a range of “Raptor Style” led grill bars. Maybe using 1/2 size SSC1 pods in either Amber backlight/white main DRL function! Either way those DD pods are superb looking devices and the quality is excellent!

    This is a GREAT idea. Trying to figure out how this would work with the 2020+ (non-Pro) upper grilles with the horizontal "bars" bisecting the upper grille sections. Was going to do a dual 6" bar mount behind there, but wasn't sure how much those thicker bars would block the light output. Wouldn't be a big deal with the backlight feature, but might not be great if it blocks half the lens of the SSC1's.

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah that would be tough. Though any grill lights would be tough on that grill haha. Just get the pro grill!

      After uploading I realized I did not do a comparison...I will try to do it in a future Diode Dynamics light install for comparison. In the meantime you can compare lumen output. They are spots. The light bar has roughly 7000 lumen output and these are about 3000 combined. Hope that helps!

    • @OverlandEngineer

      The lights are bright spots so you get front facing offroad lighting in addition to DRL amber lights that look like raptor/grill lights.

  • @InGratitudeIam
    @InGratitudeIam Před rokem

    Nice! I've never been a fan of "Raptor" lights, partly because they serve no real purpose and because it gives credit to that overpriced thing from FORD. But what you've done here makes sense. Speaking of making sense, I'm beginning to think that you NEED a LX460 in the not-too-distant future, Zach... "for the channel" if not for Otis. :))) A V-8, 6-speed... YES!

    Can you see a difference with these on as opposed to when you were just running the light bar?

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Před 2 lety

      Yeah definitely. It’s definitely brighter but also creates a square light projection rather than a bar if that makes sense.

    Great video man! I am going back on this one from when I saw it like a year ago and now really considering doing this mod.
    Do you have any recommendations or advise, If I am looking to install without a switch pro? Im a terrible electrician so any advise to hook these up to the battery and run off of a switch would be amazing. Would the wiring stay the same?

    • @OverlandEngineer

    Easily rigged up with a custom mount. But, what makes them any more "functional" than the other billion offers out there, that cost 1/4 as much, and install in minutes. Just asking bro.

      @@andrewh7400 None that I know of. I think Baja Designs has back lights on their light bars and LP4,LP6,LP9 but none of the pods. Diode Dynamics even has back lights on the SSC2s if you wanted something larger than what I have but still easily small enough to fit behind the grill.

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Před 2 lety

      I feel like the "custom mount" is pretty easy to make though if you have basic tools. I used a basic hand saw, small cordless drill, and a clamp to make it. You could even buy it in a 24" section probably so you would only need the clamp, drill and spray paint.

    From one of your other videos, it looks like they are aimed far too high to be of much use. Sure, the backlighting looks cool but let's not call this functional when the light they project is far too high to be of use. They are basically expensive raptor lights the way they are aimed.
