I must say one thing that many seem to have forgotten. Eris, who is currently training to become the strongest, still thinks Rudeus is hers while Rudy thought she dumped him. I mean, we did see that in the season finale last season. She expects to become the strongest to be able to be by Rudy's side and protect him in the future. Therefore, we all must know when the two ever meet again, Eris likely thinks they'll probably just get back together. But when she returns.... there's Sylphy and possibly Roxy depending on how the next episode turns out. Omg. I wonder what Eris will do.

One thing I like about this episode is that they were totally upfront. Roxy admits what she did was wrong, that she was being selfish, and she doesn’t try to justify it. Mushoku tensei has some of the realest character writing.
She's also using it as an off-ramp. It's breaking her heart, but she accepts that Rudeus is already taken.
Both of them were broken at that time, so it's a win-win solution
An important note is that Zenith and all of her family are Millis followers, making her situation different again.

The main difference between Paul and Rudy’s case is that Rudy isn’t going to hide a secret about it so in a sense (if imperfect) Rudy isn’t quite doing as much of a betrayal as Lilia and Paul’s case. Rudy at least has the intention to own up at the first opportunity.
Also Roxy and Elinalise are female best friends who’ve spent years bonding while reuniting Rudy’s family well before Elinalise realized Sylphy was her granddaughter so Elinalise also has a stake in Roxy’s happiness.
Plus she taught Roxy how to sex
When you think about it, Paul instantly owned up to it. you might say that it was too late because Lilia was already pregnant, well that's exactly where we stand with Rudy

@@JohnJohn-lj5cn I don’t quite agree because while yes he instantly owned up, but that instantly was only in the context of Lilia’s morning sickness cough which in a sense, is hiding the truth until that moment. For Rudy and Roxy, it’s quite literally a case of it happened, they’re planning to say something at the very first possible moment without any intentions of hiding a secret.
@@Vamp0613 Agreed, the situations aren't exactly the same. Paul literally owned up to it because he got busted and realized there was no point denying it, while Rudy (and Roxy) plan on telling Sylph the moment they meet her.
I'd say their situations would've been similar *if* Paul had admitted to Zenith the morning after he slept with Lilia at the latest that he slept with Lilia, but... well he never did. Instead it was Lilia who basically had to tell Zenith that "someone" knocked her up.
Great analysis. Show the LN readers we anime onlys don't need every little detail to get to the same conclusion in the end.
I'm a LN reader and I don't really know why the others are mad. Yeah they skipped some things but I think anime onlys get the point, the important part was shown, you don't need a whole chapter of Rudeus reflecting to understand the message "Just like I failed my previous parents, I failed my new parents, I thought I changed but I'm still the same"
And yeah some thing were changed but I think it was for the best, Roxy here was way more pushy about having sex with Rudeus but that's was the whole plan in the novels, even if Rudeus was the one that grabbed her when she was about to leave, Roxy came there to FUCK. She was in no "let's go outside" clothes
The reason why Zenith freaked out so much when she found out that Lilia was prehgnant wasnt just because of the cheating. It was because Zenith was a follower of the Millis religion. That made it double bad for her now that you know how strict the millis religion is about poligamy. But despite all that she was the one that suggested for Paul to marry Lilia too. And over the years she and Lilia became like sisters.

We have to take in consideration one thing too, Sylphie is an Elve, she's gonna live a lot longer than Rudeus, so chances she is going to have more partners and lovers way after Rudeus so in the matter of time maybe for Sylphie this might become something of an understanding. Its hard to mull over it really.

@@nuhrii3449 Yeah exactly, we are seeing it through Rudy's experience in our present world and cultures, but Rudeus was born in a new world where cultures are completely different with Elves and Demons who have longer life spans than regular humans so in this regard Elinalise made a good point when she mentioned if they were part of the Millis believe. We the viewes just like Rudeus are thinking in our own religions rules and systems but Rudeus is living in a world where religion is a lot different than ours.

Doubt it. In other timelines where Rudeus never existed, neither Sylphie nor Roxy ever married anyone. In other words, they're both Rudeus-sexual.

aaaah one thing that is described in the novel but not in the anime... when they sit at the camp fire, elinalise explains to rudy that... roxy has a delay of more than a month, you know what I mean.

One of the reasons they were in such a hurry to talk to Roxy, is that she is the kind of person that once she is done with something she immediately moves on. Like when she left Buena Village when she had nothing else to teach Rudeus. She left immediately the next day.
Well, in the book Rudeus was trying to cling to his sense of loyalty (even after admitting he loved Roxy), so Elinalise tricked him to change his mind (that's how determined Elinalise was to help her bestie). She made Rudeus think Roxy might be pregnant, haha. I guess in that context the comparison to Paul's situation made sense (at least at the time). Rudeus decision then became a mixture of love and the desire to take responsibility. Of course, the anime gives a shortened version of the whole conversation.
One thing that was pretty significant, but changed in the anime adaptation, is how insistent Elinalise was for Roxy to comfort Rudeus.
I believe Lise said something to Roxy if it weren't for her love for Cliff, she would've tried to comfort Rudy. Also, Lise told Rudy that Roxy didn't have her period to have him marry her out of responsibility as he kept hesitating.
Yeah, she gaslighted him for no reason and it was just handled all around horribly. I'm SO happy the anime fixed this whole sequence of events up and made it better.

Read the chapter in the LN and forget our bias of what you think Elinalise would've done and you will see that at no point she remotely implied for Roxy to comfort Rudeus, Elinalise was clearly uncomfortable with the whole conversation that was started by Geese.

The thing is I like both Sylphie and Roxy and I dont want anyone of them to be sad. The author did a good job to make me care about both of them. So I have to agree with Rudy. As long as everyone agrees there is no harm and it can make their family stronger.
Problem is when Sylphie said she's ok with Rudeus having another woman., Rudeus already said he wouldn't..
So I'm curious how Sylphies gonna react.. she'll probably be fine about it but hope they make it interesting.
Also ManGod talks like he can see the future so he probably knows and this might be a part of his manipulation.🤷

Sylphie's real fear isn't that Rudeus will want to take a second wife, her fear is that one day he'll tell her he's leaving her for another woman. She fears being replaced. When Rudeus brings Roxy home with him, she initially fears that she's being replaced, however Elinalise's parting words reassure her that Rudeus still loves her. And Sylphie is able to accept Roxy because Norn went and aired all the grievances that Sylphie herself felt deep inside.

Yeah, let's not forget it was Sylphie who suggested Rudeus should get a girl on the side to have children with. Him cheating on Sylphie was an absolute dick move and she's probably gonna be really sad about the betrayal, but the idea of him having multiple partners shouldn't be that big of a deal for her. I think the damage in trust will be the biggest problem. Also, did we forget about Eris and Sara already? I'm pretty sure he'll end up with more than just 2 partners if this keeps up, lol.

The author understood that a certain number of people would not accept this episode, but they put a lot of effort into making it more acceptable to a wider audience.
The remarkable aspect of this work is the thorough construction of customs, morals, and ethics in the alternate world, which adds a lot of credibility. It's also important, but understandable, to separate reality from fiction. Additionally, I think the way characters like Paul and Elinalise, who might cause psychological resistance based on our own ethical standards, are introduced as a lead-up and buffer for this episode is brilliant. Even though Elinalise can't exactly give permission, she is a person who has been a very close friend to Roxy, is grandmother to Sylphie, has had bad history with Paul AND has now been dating a devout MIlis believer. It's very sad to see people immediately point how or who is in the wrong when the show already spells that out to you and focuses instead on how these adults with flaws and faults handle it and make it work. we can be pissed at the idea, but they can do what they want as long as all of them are consenting. For me it's the difference between harem and actual polygomy.

A major sticking point of his inner monologue and depression (though really it was more survivor's guilt that had him paralyzed) that wasn't very well articulated in the anime, was him trying to wrap his head around Paul seeing him as his son and sacrificing himself, while he never really recognize Paul as his father. Though with Paul dying, he no longer has any opportunity to return that sentiment to Paul or Zenith. That Paul was the one who should have come back to be with the family. Agonizing over the idea that he had made the same mistake in his past life and missed the opportunity with his first parents, having never even tried.
Which makes his current crisis a unique situation, as he's at the same time mourning over four parents as well as his guilt over the what-ifs of what he could've done better.

I hated this when I read it in the LN and tbh, it lowered my opinion of Mushoku Tensei as a story in general. That said, the anime made some changes to this whole sequence that I LOVED... Now don't get me wrong, I'm still not big on this anime becoming a harem anime basically lol. BUT, the way it's been portrayed here in the anime makes me far, FAR more okay with the idea of it than I originally was.

Sylphie would destroy Roxy 😂😂, Roxy probably would be better in a team fight and taken on the world because of her experience, but in a 1v1 Sylphie is a counter to most mages, not matter how good they are

there was one big difference between the ln and the anime, but tbh i liked how the anime handled it way better.

Both Roxy and Sylphiette will outlive Rudy. Zenith, Lilith, and Paul have normal lifespans.

The Anime doesnt convey this, but Roxy pretty much saved rudies life. He was hold up in his room for a many many days, (i think it was a few weeks), not eating, barely drinking. He was withering away, replaying that moment of his pauls death over and over again. No one could get him to do anything no matter how much they tried. Finally one day Geese brings up that when men are like this, sex can bring them out of it, they all agreed but since sylphie wasnt there and they didnt think rudy would feel good about sleeping with a random person in a brothel, they tried to get Enelise to sleep with him but she refused since hes married to her granddaughter. They kept pleading with her to do it to save rudy. They even suggested that Lilia do it, but that got shot down right away. Roxy after much thought decided that if it would save rudy then she would do it. (Also she wasnt aggressive about it like the anime portrays it.)
Also Enelise lies at the bonfire and tells rudy that since him and roxy slept together almost 2 months ago, roxy hasnt had her period. Thats the focal point of all this and its what really pushes rudy to try to make roxy his wife. He really didnt want to betray sylphie, and wasnt going to marry roxy. But if she was going to give birth to his child then he was going to take responsibility for it.
Anyways, i just wish the anime went deeper into both of these things cuz it kinda seemed like she forced herself onto him for almost no reason, and he wants to marry roxy purely out of selfishness.
The anime DEFINITELY did a good job at conveying it. You don't need to explicitly tell the audience every detail because the anime, unlike the LN, can SHOW you visually...
@kamikaze.33 nah, this episode was a hard flop to the LN. They tried to convey it but ultimately failed at just how dire the situation was. And not showing the bar scene was criminal.

There other ways to help people with depression like how Rudy help his sister, but this way is terrible

@Galaxy0522 rudy never helped his sister. She brought herself out of it. He was just there for her.
And as for Rudy's situation. For weeks everyone was trying to help him, tried making him eat, tried talking to him, tried getting him to do anything. Nothing they did was working. He couldn't process anything and was wishing he had died instead. He was basically on the brink of death by not eating and hardly drinking anything, the anime severely downplays just how dire of a situation it was.

I always wanted Rudy to take Roxy as his second wife, but the way it was handled though? Honestly in fashion with the show. Sylphie & Roxy are the cutest, but Eris no.1 waifu in this show for me.
To me Eris is the worst character ever. She is super violent tsundere who beats his husband constantly for daring to grope her. I think at one point he even broke his nose. I don't mind that type of antics in a casual / comedy relief series. But in Mushoku Tensei you are supposed to take these characters seriously. So it's really off putting when it happens like 5 times during the series. On top of that Eris barely gets any dialogue and is treated by the author as almost autistically stupid. Outside of combat she is basically useless. And acts like her brain doesn't even function like a normal person.
@juusovuolle8251 Eris has a lot of growing to do, in terms of controlling her anger/violent impulses... just as Rudy had a lot of maturing to do. Yes Eris beating Rudy isn't for jokes and it's always deserved and the first time she did it, was all part of her character setup (a flaw to overcome if you will).

In the LN, Elinalise told Rudy that Roxy's period hasn't come in 2 months to persuade him.
Which was terrible and manipulative and pointless! I got one am SO happy they removed that...

This episode just skipped too much from LN to actually make it make more sense. In here Roxy just looks like an asshole predator and Rudeus like he didn't care enough. They prob did the best they could, but still could definitely have been done better.
"Without the context of "Roxy has already tried to claw Rudeus out of depression every day for over a month," the scene makes zero sense.
Without the scene of Elinelise giving her the idea of sex as a last resort to jumpstart any kind of emotional response from Rudeus, the scene makes even less sense.
By not showing Roxy understands his current family situation, the context of sacrificing herself and her virginity just as a desperate prayer to help him is criminal. From her perspective, she had no hope of reciprocation and was willing to put how this might hurt her aside; without showing this she comes off as painfully tactless and boneheadedly selfish.
She put her needs aside to save the person who saved her. Instead? It looks like she's taking advantage of someone vulnerable to help herself."

@@kamikaze.33 On the Elinalise side of things yeah, especially when lying and saying Roxy is pregnant for Rudeus to marry her. But at least it explains much more on Rudeus suffering and Roxy's reasoning behind her actions. In the anime the "show don't tell" excuse doesn't cut it for me. It just cuts too much to not make it look like Roxy isn't what it makes her look like.
I don't like it when the anime doesn't follow the LN religiously.

Geese was actually the one to suggest getting him laid. The standard operating procedure with an adventurer down in the dumps is to get him in a brothel and get him boozed up. They went through the options, striking off each one. Rudeus wouldn't respond well to a random girl, Lilia is out of the question entirely, and Elinalise would wreck him even further. There is room to argue they implied Roxy should do it, but she did it out of her own initiative.
the director decided to do the episode from Rudeus' POV. What should've been done is expand her explanation.
Her taking advantage of Rudeus is a point one can argue. Her saying it serves as an off-ramp for her to leave him. Even if they became one, he still belongs to another.
Zenith and her family were followers of Millis so she was always opposed to a poly relationship. Remember that the Millis religion is primarily followed by humans other races don’t follow it
The chapter was poorly directed. Roxy only takes that action because Rudeus spent days crying and not eating. It didn't show the group thinking of solutions to get him out of depression. It was missing him telling her that he is reincarnated.
He told her _an entirely fictional story_ and asked her opinion about it. But it would've dropped some hints and brought her up to Sylphie's level as to the suspicions about Rudeus.

Sylphie did posit the possibility of Rudy taking a mistress, but he rejected it at the time. At no point did she ever say he get a second wife. The distinction was very important for Aisha, which is why Paul married Lilia, but may not be as important for Sylphie for whatever reason.
The society seems to see a woman's union to a man to exist on one of three levels: mistress, concubine, or wife. A mistress is simply a woman in a sexual relationship with a man who provides her with protection and gives her gifts. A concubine is a woman in the household in a relationship with a man, but without inheritance or representative powers. A wife shares her husband's household and is a lady of the house.
Sylphie understands that system and has seen it in practice. Aisha has lived in a society that restricts the title of wife to only one woman in the household, and Millis culture likely doesn't have concubines either.
It's also why I think Ariel and Luke were so surprised by Rudeus declaring his intent to marry Sylphie. They likely expected a less complete union, as she's a commoner and he's of noble blood. Then again, Luke should be happy his friend is also now a peer.

Rudy and Sylphie didn't exactly establish a monogamous relationship. In fact Sylphie even suggested that Rudy take extra wife/concubine for a various of reasons. Rudy shot that down and made the promise.
Generally speaking male monogamy outside of Christendom wasn't really a thing up until a few centuries ago where the West spread Christianity and Christian values all around the world. But even today, polygamy is accepted in the 2nd largest religion in the world.
So prior to Christianity, male monogamy was not part of marriage. Some countries enforced official monogamy, meaning that officially they could only have 1 wife but they usually used prostitution services or had concubines or had mistresses one example of this is Japan prior to Western influence. Others allowed multiple wives if they could take care of them. But enforced male monogamy up until Christianity.
Also I purposefully said "male" monogamy because female monogamy was enforced in almost all societies. The fantasy world of Mushoku Tensei is similar to our world in that sense. Elinalise was NOT married and her actions were considered dirty but she was forced to it. Had she not have her curse, she'd probably be married by now to 1 man.
The reason why male monogamy and female monogamy are distinct is mainly biological. It is a product of various factors such as paternity/maternity, instincts and natural gender roles.
