    Regulator
    The voltage regulator controls the amount of power distributed from the alternator to the battery in order to control the charging process. Regulators are designed with different functions and work depending on their specification.
    Rectifier
    The rectifier is used to convert current from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) during the charging process.
    Rotor
    The rotor is the spinning mass inside the alternator that rotates via the pulley and drive belt system. The rotor acts as a spinning electromagnet.
    Slip Rings
    The Slip rings are used as a means of providing direct current and power to the rotor.
    Slip Ring End Bearing
    The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
    Stator
    The stator consists of several coils of wire wound through an iron ring. The stator sits outside the rotor, when a magnetic field is created the electrical current is made.
    Drive End Bearing
    The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
    Pulley
    The pulley is connected to the rotor shaft and the drive belt system. Rotation created by the engine the drive belt system turns the pulley beginning the charging process.
    Armature
    The armature is an electromagnet, mounted on the drive shaft and bearings for support. It is a laminated soft iron core which is wrapped with numerous conductors loops or windings.
    Brushes
    The brushes run on a section of the commutator at the rear of the housing, making contact with the contacts of the commutator and conducting electricity.
    Solenoid
    The solenoid contains of two coils of wire that are wrapped around a moveable core. The solenoid acts as a switch to close the electrical connection and connects the starter motor to the vehicle's battery.
    Plunger
    The plunger works by using the connected vehicle battery and the solenoid to push the plunger forward, which engages the pinion.
    Lever Fork
    The lever fork is connected to the plunger so when the plunger is pushed forwards, so is the lever fork. This process then activates the pinion.
    Pinion
    The pinion is a unique combination of a gear and springs. Once the starter is engaged the gear is extended into the gearbox housing and is engaged with the flywheel. This spins the engine to begin the combustion process.
    Field Coils
    The housing holds the starter fields in the housing with screws. This can consist of two to four field coils connected in series. Energised by the battery this converts the coils into an electromagnet which then turns the armature. When the armature coils are powered a magnetic field is created around the armature.

    Another great rebuild, pretty cool test bench what make is it? That's a brilliant parts washer also I have to get one. Keep up the great work

    Hi, thanks for your video !
    I have a alternator Delphi 214 14V 75A for my Clio 2. But, the rectifier is dead and i dont find this piece (i have not reference).
    Wher are you buy the piece ?
    I find this pieces AS-PL ARC1006 but diodes are 50A, is's compatible ?

    congratulations good job how did you cleaned the diode rectifier? sandblasted?

      it is sandblasted with glass dust

    Hello, I'm rebuilding my alternator. The original bearing is a 6201z but have been sent 6201zz instead. Is it ok to use the double zz bearings.

    Moj altenator na reno clio 2,za sada dobro radi, al mu se cuju lezajevi!mislio sam ih sam zameniti pa da pitam dal treba na jos nesto da obratim paznju, dal se lezajevi treba da se menjaju ako je altenator ispravan, tj. dal da radim celu reparaciju istog, al u tom slucaju onda bi ga nosio majstoru da sve izmenja!ps. okvirno koliko kosta reparacija ili nov altenator!?

      Preventivno promenite lezajeve cetkice i kolektor ako se potrosio nema potrebe za uzimanjem novog alternatora.
