- So many of us grew up playing some iteration of a WWE game. Whether that be No Mercy, SmackDown here comes the pain, Day of Reckoning or an instalment of the SmackDown vs RAW series. WWE games have evolved every year, sometimes they've hit and sometimes they've missed.
In 2013 2K took over the publishing rights to the WWE games after THQ filed for bankruptcy. They really changed up the culture of WWE games and tried to make their product different from the rest. Following so many instalments of the game and with 6 years to look back on, I take a look at the rise & fall of the WWE2K series.

No that's not what I said. I was wrong anyway as I argued a point you hadn't made. I meant the first game titled with 2k was 2k14. But that came out in 2013 as you say. I misunderstood the video title. Which was easily done as it's misleading.

Yeah but now that it's online they should make a 2 year game and release updates and new content to keep things fresh and exciting and use the second year to patch in gameplay improvements to test out code for the next release

2K15 wasn’t gameplay wise bad, it was just severely limited to the point that they’re isn’t any replayability
It was also pretty glitchy and online was almost non existent at least on the PS4 version. The PS3 version of 2K15 was much better imo. I will say 2K15 has better graphics than 2K20 lol

@@gator9339 The ps3 version of 2k17 is pretty good too. The gameplay is slowed down a little, but i like it more than 2k14. The animations are way better, too.
I bought 2k19 a couple of months ago after being out of it for a while and I've been enjoying my time with it. As a whole, my favorites in no particular order are, HCTP, SVR2006, WWE 13, 2k14, and 2k19.
Yeah those are my favorites too. Each one. In fact, if you fix some of the goofy selling and take out the mini games for stuff like submissions and MITB and 2K19 would be my favorite WWE game ever. It allows me to do stuff I always wanted to do in a wrestling game, in a way that even No Mercy didn't do IMO.

@@gardnerminshewii8704 I think 2k19 gets the praise it deserves, people say 2k did really good with almost everything in 2k19, people prefer sticking to 19 over playing 20, people made a petition to keep the servers up, I'd say it's either 2k16 or 2k19 that take 2nd place out of best wwe2k games.

man I remember 1 year of middle school my dad buyn=ing me a PS2 and the first game I bought was WWE12 the joy I had with it iwas overwhelming playing with my brother the one who wins most matches in a year will buy the next year wwe game thank you for bringing back those memories
im not gonna lie, 2k battlegrounds (from what ive seen) is a really empty game
I played it for about an hour. Spent $50 Canadian on it, and I haven’t touched it since.
I literally played 2k battlegrounds for a couple of hours and I got tired of it. Most of the move sets feel recycled and used over and over again. I’m not a fan of it.
Tried to be All stars but failed
90% of the roster and attires are locked, so you either pay to unlock them or you play the game for like 60 hours. But it's super shallow with not much to do at all. Most people share the same move-set and they only have a small handful of moves you can pull off. It's as shallow as a puddle of piss.

I was only young when playing svr 2006 and 2007 and I remember them being amazing with a great roster. I never played 08. I finished everything you could in 2009 and still had fun afterwards. 2010 was probably my favorite all time and is the one that is most nostalgic. 2011 was good but road to wrestle mania was the best ever. Wwe 2012 was good but I never really played it much because I never found it as fun as the rest. 2013 was great purely because of the attitude era but other than that it wasn't the greatest. 2014 30 years of wrestle mania was probably the greatest ideo other than my gm from previous games. 2k 15-20 all sucked

I still jam on 2K19 to this day. Still download creat-a-characters too. The last bastion of wrestling games. 19 4 ever! But, it is also the last wrestling game I’ll ever buy. That is 20’s legacy. It murdered all desire to get another one. Best thing would be for 2K to never make another one ever again.

@@freshswagga100 I agree, 2K19 isnt bad gameplay wise but as with all 2k wwe games it just has no real reason to play it, Yeah universe mode exists but thats just a booking simulator without any of the finances, ratings, etc. I wish they would just make Universe Mode be more like WWE 12's universe mode.

🧢 WWE 2K14 is hands down STILL the best WWE game ever made. 2k22 gives street fighter vibes… not so much wrestling. Modders are still to this day adding onto 2k14 and just making it better and better
Yeah, 2K22 is average at best. Universe mode was way better in ‘19. In ‘22 Universe mode is bare bones like GM Mode. MyRise had no continuity of a storyline or branching. It was just fighting through random heel and face, 2 - 3 match story archs.

WWE 2K16 was the first and best WWE game that I played, alongside WWE 2K19
What I liked about it was the return of features that were remobed in 2k15 and the instant availability of most legends.

The funny thing is that the Pre-owned version of WWE 2k20 costs more than the new version

I loved 2k14 it was by far my favorite wwe game. I even liked the streak mode including the undertaker boss fight. 2k16 is also among my favorites
One off the best co-op games. My first one was 2k10 and my last one was 2k16 and I don’t know about any after that but the games from 10 to 16 were fun to me.

-Better graphics
-Showcase Mode
-RTWM
-Career mode with various endings decisions and paths (including good, bad and neutral endings)
-Blood drips on floor and on the other wrestler in a match
-Improved creation modes (all of em)
-Intergender matches
-Bra & panties match
-Appropiate buried alive match
-Inferno match
-Wrestlers can really talk on promos and cutscenes
-Simulation and Arcade combination
-Realistic commentary reaction

In my opinion 2K just aren’t the right choice to develop WWE games. The simulation style of games suck absolute dick. This franchise will never be good again unless THQ come back from the dead and Yukes return but that’s never gonna happen. WWE games are just dead now. It’s a fact. WWE games died when THQ died. It’s as simple as that. Nobody can replicate the old WWE games. They were just something else.
You’ll be disappointed on the 25 superstars removed on W2K22, which is worst. Even the legends who went to AEW. Believe me, this is the 2nd let down.
Well... If they know that they are releasing a game every year. Then they should be a head of schedule. They do have a year in advance.

It is 2k fault they literally put no passion behind any of their 2K games. They literally were riding on the coattails of THQ when THQ created 2K14. Many of the features that 2K offers are recycled from old games and more often than not 2K did an inferior job at it. All 2K had to do since they had the license was to do a hybrid of all the best games in the past and that would be it. Instead what 2K does is they do a water down version of everything as a pathetic cash grab.
Nice and interesting video! We agree that Yuke's made some of the best wrestling games ever. But we will also agree that Yuke's technology and philosophy was becoming outdated. I remember reading a lot of reviews on various forums because Yuke's games were starting to look dated, until 2K came along and they revamped the graphics (peaking with 2K18). 2K has introduced noticeable improvements, such as break-ins during innings and wins, win moves, MITB cashes, and so on. We agree that 2K has made poor decisions and what they did with 2K20 cannot be forgiven. The series was drowned in rush and time. As a fan of the series, I just hope the new installment (with Patrick Gilmore as the project leader) makes a really fun game that makes us forget the SDvsRAW series :)

Great video man, but you're not doing the jump from SVR 11 to '12 enough justice. The whole control scheme was different, brand new engine, graphics were kicked up a whole extra notch, and the pace of play got even faster.
THQ always improved their game year after year. Gm mode and career mode was awesome. I loved gm mode. Imagine having the rosters of 2k and graphics with the brilliance of gm mode

2k14 was incredible loved 30 years of wrestlemania, streak and universe modes. Deffo a fav next to WWE 12 (wildest story mode of all time absolutely full of twists 😂) and Smackdown vs Raw 2006, a true classic.
I think out of all of them I personally liked the older raw vs smackdown games from here comes the pain till 2011 because they had a decent or amazing roster or a storyline within a career mode that's basically up to you and how you play it and some games like 2010 and 2011 have storylines for each specific wrestler that can have a goal into going to wrestlemania and having an obstacle during the story which does make it look it could be in an actual real life story in wwe itself and THQ does that perfectly to make you get hooked into the game. But for the 2k titles I have a mixed review on each one and the only ones I loved were the showcase mode of the attitude era and the specific storylines that happened in between the early 2000s mainly such as the pipe bomb with cm punk. But other than that as the newer ones came out I feel like the created wrestler story should be like the career mode in the older games and not just a mash-up story that evolves around your character being happy for just getting a raw contract and being forced to make deals between certain characters that either make you a heel or a face because in the end he changes through out the career and switches sides with both heels or faces throughout the career mode and I've noticed it's becoming a pattern in each 2k game.
PS3 versions will always be the best. Especially online.

The My career modes for 2k19 and 2k20 were actually good. And the Towers modes weren't bad either. I do want season mode back cause season mode was amazing.

Of each WWE game I've played, SVR 2010, 2k19, and 2k16 were the absolute best
A wrestling game needs to be released every 5 years with additions to the roster and improvements to the game much like all other games that have competitive aspects. Sometimes mobile games are better and it’s because of continued updates etc
