How Good Was CM Punk's 434 Day Reign? (2011-2013)
Vložit

- 2011 is the year that everyone looks back at and remember's how much of an impact CM Punk made in the wrestling landscape. He brought in so many lapsed fans with his contract storyline, he did some of the best mic work ever and put on one of the biggest matches in WWE history against John Cena. But after all of that: the return, the undisputed title match, and him getting cashed in on, his run was a little screwed up. But once he regained the title he went on a run of absolute dominance.
In this video I take a look at CM Punk's 434 day WWE Championship reign. This reign was record breaking for many reasons and is looked back on as one of CM Punk's biggest impacts on pro wrestling. So was reign really that good?
Hope you enjoy and don't forget to leave a subscribe and drop a like!

Imagine holding the title for 400 days and then just lose it to a part time wrestler who hasnt wrestle in years
You mean one of the biggest stars in the history of the company who is an even bigger draw...can't imagine.
@@ChiGuy251 "Who didn't need a title to be a draw"
Finished that statement for you
@@nullandvoid7524 sure but he reduced The Rock to being a mere "part-timer" and I had to rectify that notion.
Well, it was better to lose it to The Rock than to John Cena.
@@ChiGuy251 Still doesnt change the fact that hes a "part-timer".
He was literally getting screwed by the company month after month. He was the reason everyone was watching to begin with.
@@SuperkickStudios I think in 2013 Punk and Cena were in the same levels in the merch section
Nope the rock returning brought fans back

Imagine if Jeff Hardy returned when Punk was at his peak and they started feuding again but for the wwe title
Bruh that would be the greatest match imagine that at wrestle mania definitely top main event worthy
Too bad he was too geeked at TNA to come back at the time
If would also have been interesting if Jeff Hardy returned as a heel so the roles would be reversed and Hardy could lash out at the fans for all of a sudden supporting the guy they rooted against two years prior.
Imagine Aj styles vs cm punk at WrestleMania
@@jamieward3260 I Would have totally been on with that idea.
Damn I just realized WWE died with CM Punk leaving.
In your eyes. It actually died in 2018. 2017 Smackdown was red hot. But, it is picking up steam again with Roman Reigns tearing the house down on Smackdown every week
I mean it was good with the roman reigns league of nation thing back in 2016
They fucking deserved it
dude this is it!!! i was gunna post this too after watching the video. Punk was the last great thing the WWE had! He was such an allround talent, perhaps not physically elite like some other all-time wrestlers, but he held his own pretty damn well, and he was a great in-ring technician. They did him so wrong. They could have at least made it a triple threat match at the 2013 Wrestlemania. That would have been a pretty awesome match, even if his run came to an end that night. But anyway.. we THE FANS will remember him and what he did. He left his own unique legacy in a difficult transition period of the downfall of the WWE
@Bose HD lol
Wwe just treated him like garbage even though he carried the company. He should've won the 2014 royal rumble and main evented wrestlemania 30
Carried? Funny
@@ave-6130 did he stutter? funny
Come on!!
Really?
Stop defending him like children, I was on his side before but enough is enough.
His fans present him as the man who did have any opportunity in WWE, he join in 2005 and held the title for more than a year in a row, some other wrestlers who are good and have been longer in WWE did get such an opportunity.
Bryan should have won the Rumble and Punk should have been the champion. WM30 should have been Bryan vs Punk with both being mega-over.
Punk vs taker at WM29 was excellent; Taker should just have won the Rumble and Rock v Cena 2 didn't need the championship. Even if Taker beat Punk at WM that would still have been an incredible end to an incredible reign. And it should have been the main event, going on after Rock v Cena.
excuse me wdym john cena vs bray wyaat and undertaker vs brock lesnar were not daniel bryan deserved main eventing wrestlemania 30 he had to fight the authority the authority is the mcmahon they just have pawns like seth rollins or batista to do their dirty work sure he had a good run he just lost everyone loses it
It was pretty good overall, I think Punk proved he wasn't just another transitional champion.
For sure he did, the rock was the transitional champion😂 just to get it back onto Cena
I love Punk but the title reign was awful, which wasn’t all his fault but also terrible storylines
@@ChuckGibbs39 It was pretty solid for the first half of 2012, his feud with Y2J was pretty good. It wasn’t until his feud with Ryback that it went downhill
@@yourztruly9490 Fair call, I do agree the feud with Jericho was pretty good and that Ryback feud was awful. Was the Punk, Nash and Triple H feud part of that reign or was that before? Cause that one was not great either
@@ChuckGibbs39 that was after his first championship reign but before his second reign as the champ.
Punk didn’t need Heyman, but having a manager helped stay heel and not get cheered
also the hell in a cell match when he attacker heyman was so enjoyable to watch...this era of the wwe was my favorite era ive seen live. It all went down after 2016-2017
Not to mention, Cena vs. Rock vs. Punk for the WWE Championship made story sense since Cena was taking on two people he has never managed to beat. Facing the Rock, a man who he lost to and set him on a downward spiral in his life and facing CM Punk, someone who proved to be his greatest rival and his equal.
They threw that out of the toilet at the Raw episode after the Chamber where they had Cena beat post-Nexus Punk clean for the first time. It was an amazing match (with a piledriver!) but it shut Punk out of the main event scene forever.
That “downward spiral” shit was hilarious. It could’ve been a really interesting story and given the 2nd Rock vs Cena match something, anything to make people care. Instead, they paid lip service to Cena falling apart after getting beaten by The Rock without actually booking it, because God forbid we have Cena go on a losing streak, even if it is to build to the main event of your biggest show of the year…
Punk losing to Rocky was the start of Vince's hard on for part timers being the main champion...

After Edge's initial retirement, Punk was literally the only thing keeping me interested in the WWE . The Cena agenda during that time was just impossible to sit through as a teenager and Punk being disrespected like that was the last straw
Chris Jericho was my favourite feud for CM Punk in that Title Reign.
Their matches were solid and promos were hella strong
The promos.....chilling.
Chris Jericho is the best everything for everything!
That was the feud that made me start watch pro wrestling
"CM DRUNK....CM DRUNK"
The ending of it was poorly executed, cuz it left Punk high & dry for Wrestlemania. They basically squeezed in the Taker match at the last minute. He deserved better, but because Dwayne is Dwayne is elevated himself while shitting on someone else
Im kinda glad Punk faced Taker in the end as that match was brilliant
It should've been a triple threat. From the business side for WWE, I understand it (Cena v Rock). But in terms of elevating someone, Punk should've been in the match.
Yes triple threat with Punk Cena and Rock which Punk wins. Then they should have done the Punk Taker match at Wrestlemania 30
@@SuperkickStudios that was the original plan that punk had in mind and told Vince, it was to lose the WWE championship to the rock at elimination chamber, and then add Cena to the picture and then have a triple threat match at Mania 29, but Vince being Vince he refused this idea.
@Meta Man
Vince has proven himself to be out of touch with his audience, since about 2010. Respect what he's done, but he's out of touch & missed several opportunities, due to his short sightedness.
Punk had every right to complain especially that he main evented 5 out of 14 ppvs as world champion and who the hell thought it would be a good idea to have Cena and John Laurinaitis main event a ppv? Complete BS. Also the fact that there wasn’t a triple threat at WM29 is appalling

I started watching WWE in 2009 as a 10 yo and stopped watching in 2013-2014 in my early teens. Punk was my favourite because to me he seemed to have an actual persona instead of the typical baby face Cena. He was the best entertainer WWE had at the time. No doubt.

@@HogRider_99 Started watching around that time as well. I believe the first PPV i saw was the WrestleMania where Shawn Michaels went against The Undertaker for the first time.
What I loved about CM punks story was that, I never was quite sure what was scripted and what was true. (At least, with Punk they had a realer feel than what I saw at the time. His storyline kept me watching. (Not to say that everything was bad at the time.)
Just seeing this now, I to find it strange he rarely main evented. He clearly wasn't taken as serious as he should've been. Anyway, great times.

His title run was great, it was fresh and I got hyped when he turned heel, in my opinion it was the better half of his reign. On top of that Punk as well as Daniel Bryan paved the way and opened the door for most of the WWE talent seen today.

Punks reign was legendary. He paved more way for smaller superstars, got national attention on pro wrestling not for roids or death, and had popularity of his own. Ryback's streak shouldn't be been put up against punks reign. Cena and The Rocks match was already big and didn't need the Wwe championship involved.
Punk vs Undertaker with the title on the line giving taker the win and title would've been the perfect way to end it as well as Award undertaker a victory even if he dropped it days later.
WWE knows how to ruin everything look at AJ Styles after he carried the company alone they gave WM main event to another Reigns vs Brock while it should have been Nakamura vs Styles at least

Those 3 years made him a legend today. Whatever he is now is because of that time period between 2011-2013. He was absolutely untouchable on mic. As a result rock had to return and go one on one with punk on mic skills and wresling. He even roasted the baby face cena who was over among fans and made fans boo cena and cheer a heel wresler that’s how good he was. That’s some level.
That Over The Limit Punk vs Bryan match was amazing.

@@ekakaka what did he say?
When CM Punk won the WWE Title from Alberto Del Rio at Survivor Series 2011, he was the biggest babyface in the business. 434 days later, he was the biggest heel in the business when he lost to The Rock at the Royal Rumble 2013. That's complete dominance of the business at the very top with a full exploration of character work that NO ONE has accomplished in the business other than Punk. Not Flair, Austin, Jericho. No one.
I feel like Punk deserved a lot more recognition for his 434 WWE Title run and what he was able to accomplish at the height of the John Cena era, especially when the company was never really behind him 100 percent. He really deserved a lot better treatment at the end of his run.

I think the reign was good for being as long as it was. Had lots of great moments that would’ve been bigger if handled correctly. He was the top face in the beginning of it and the biggest heel by the end of it. If WWE wasn’t so determined to overshadow him, he probably changes the course of WWE more than his absence wound up doing
Great assessment
Unfortunately this guy has been away from wwe for over 10 years . every match if it's his opponent are all wonderful
Cena vs Rock vs Punk at Wrestlemania 29 would have shattered records and been next to impossible to ever surpass in the future. They missed out big time. But I suppose it was also because they needed someone to fight Undertaker so they used Punk.

Definitely. Too many wrestling fans have revisionist history and try to make stuff up for an agenda.
At a time when I felt like Wwe was dying, Cm Punk brought me back to watching week by week, I liked the storylines between those years of his reign plus the character he was , was much needed
Cm Punk The Best In The World Straight Edge that means I’m better than you.He came a long way into being the face of WWE.Him being champion brought many people interested in him about what was he going to do with anyone in the ring or about what he was going to say on the microphone.

He proved the man makes the champion and all I can say is Best in the world
No wonder why punk was so done with this company, while being the main champion he was being screwed week in and week out, to other superstars mainly Cena and part timers. And the fact as soon as he was the hottest thing at mitb they tried to extinguish by losing the belt straight away and bringing nash in for no reason. Then what hurts the most is losing it after 400+ days to a not even part time wrestler just so the belt could be a prop to a match he should have been a part of just so he could say at least I was in the main event with rock and Cena
All I have to say is I hope he returns one day and gets treated with respect

I hadn't felt that way in such a looooong time at the time and I haven't had anything grab my attention the way it did since. While I hate that punk left on bad terms I also respect his decision. He made an impact that will NEVER be replicated.
Great Video! Good Detail!

I Just Came Back To This Video Ramdomly & Had No Idea I Already Watched It Until I Saw My Comment From A Year Ago 🤣.
Been waiting for this one
Punk deserved better. The royal rumble way to WM WOULD'VE BEEN EPIC.

Can we get all of the Miz Intercontinental championship runs good or bad please? Thank you
Which one do you want?
@@SuperkickStudios Evey The Miz Intercontinental Championship runs. I mean all of them please and thank you
them having rock come out of nowhere and win the title just for the twice in a lifetime match and deciding to throw punk away after the greatest title reign i had watched up until that point is really what killed my love for WWE. Didnt return until a couple months before mania 30 and that was only because of Daniel Bryan
Before even watching, all I have to say is CM Punk’s reign is the SOLE reason I started watching WWE again after a 5 year hiatus.
10:09 the "I dig crazy chicks" promo was pure comedic gold, I can't believe it's already 9 years ago
