- In 2015 the WWE universe was introduced to Becky Lynch. Lynch took a while to find her way while Sasha and Charlotte were winning championships. In 2018 that all changed. Lynch began calling herself “The Man”. This persona changed her entire WWE career. It resulted in success for Lynch and it drew so many people towards her naturally likable personality. In the lead-up, to WrestleMania 35 Becky Lynch’s storyline was one of the biggest focuses. In this video, I take a look at Becky Lynch’s women’s championship run from winning it in 2019 to announcing her pregnancy in 2020.

Becky is supposed to be a foil to both Charlotte and Ronda and she was the babyface so it makes sense also no cared about Ronda in wwe until she started feud with Becky and Charlotte as no one cared about bliss vs Ronda or Nia vs Ronda it was really obvious that Ronda was boring in wwe before Becky and Charlotte started feuding with her in fact Ronda really only got hardcore fans in wwe when she turned heel.

It’s just crazy to me how she won both titles at WrestleMania 35, lost the Smackdown Women’s Championship, but went on to hold the Raw Women’s Championship for more than a year. No matter what you say, love her or hate her, Becky knows what she’s doing.

I divide it into 3 parts. Part 1 was the golden stage. Becky was over as hell, had the best match of her career with Charlotte and cutting amazing promos. Everywhere she went the crowd came unglued . From about summerslam to mania she wasn’t just the most over woman in the company but over superstar period. Stage 2 is post mania 35 to say rumble 2020 , Becky had overcome the odds and beaten Ronda and Charlotte, the promos were still good and she was still over , but there was a creeping issue that she was beginning to cut the same promos over and over. Her feud with Lacey was dull and had a particularly non memorable story with nattie . But the fans still loved her and she still remained the top dog and was finally achieving the heights her character should have hit. And finally we get to stage 3. This was when Becky had gotten stale. The story with asuka gave the fans an essence of the old Becky because it felt she was chasing something again and as soon as that was over she went back to cocky champion. She did stupid shit like where a crown and a robe and wear meme glasses for some reason . What should have happened was the cocky champion Becky gets humbled by the fearless challenger in shayna at mania, which did not happen. The character had reached its breaking point ultimately at this point
Overall, I think at one point in time it was well and truly the best gimmick in the industry, but over time thanks to wear and tear and the gimmick becoming stale it had been driven to within an inch of its life. But I would consider it a success as with that very character she took that very division to heights it hadn’t previously seen. However, after Becky does return , whenever that day is ,she should come back refreshed and repackaged but maintain the swagger that the man possessed

the "let's be real here we needed someone else as champion she can't build new stars...." part is false. Becky introduced Lacey Evans to the WWE Universe. It wasn't the downfall of Lacey after Becky beat her, as she face turned and feuded with Bayley for 2 months. Then management had no plans for her. Nattie isn't suffering from her loss to Becky, as management makes her, since 2016, a superstar that helps other talent to grow. We knew at this point that Nattie was transitional and that the plans were her continuing to do so. Now she is doing that with the likes of the Riott Squad, Billie Kay or Bianca Belair. The Shayna case... Trust me, if Becky wasn't pregnant, Shayna would have won the title by SummerSlam... But does it mean that Shayna's profile really suffered after her loss ? Yes and no. They removed that killer instinct, and her will to demolish everyone, and put her in a tag team with Nia. Now people hate the tag team because of Nia Jax and think that it's a straight stop for Shayna's career. I say that the upside shouldn't be neglected. they won the women's tag titles after an amazing match showing Shayna's superiority. And they kept the title for quite long and racked up tons of wins.
No one is suffering from Becky's booking rn, as her leaving pressed a reset button, management and creative didn't embrace it fully, and the pandemic put some brakes in the advancement of stuff, period.
Sasha didn't only get up because she was one of the four horsewomen, but also because story wise, with the Bayley season, she actually delivered and Bayley turning on her was basically the start of her rise... She removed Bayley's superiority in the labels, since her track record against her prior to HIAC was negative... This puts her way more on the map than when she feuded with Becky imo.
Asuka on the other hand is the victim of bad creative.... She was the only good choice for a face star to keep the title, but WWE didn't decide to tell great stories with her...
No one(i'm talking about Becky and Bayley here) f-ed up imo... Nobody in WWE is suffering from a reign or what, maybe you as a fan, but that's on you and your personal taste.

Her run after turning “heel” and before “The Man” persona was definitely hella good. The Man persona was good starting up but then it kind of just ran its course. I feel like they should have just let her stick to what she was doing during her “heel” run cuz damn her mic skills were killing it. I’m still a huge fan nonetheless, I just hate seeing the writers give her cringey lines and repetitive matches with Charlotte. I can’t also forget how they made her act like she was injured and how they just added Charlotte to the WM main event and ruin it 🤦
I’m excited for her return, and I hope we get that aggressive version of her character when she was fresh off after Summerslam 2018 one day, would love to see it.

I think Becky Lynch's year long reign started off solid but near the end it ran out of steam.
Feel like Becky's character as the man was good at first but then it lost touch of what her character used to be when she became champion like she wasn't herself as the man character
Nah, the only real downer was Lacey feud. After that and up until the end she was great. Even leaned more to the heel side in the feud with Nattie.

After the win at Wrestlemania, it went straight downhill... Especially winning against Baszler was an awful booking decision for everyone involved
But Shayna was failing hard on the main roster with the crowds. So I get why Vince would want to change his mind and keep the belt on Becky.

Becky’s run as champ is really underrated, because she did exactly what you want from a champion, make her opponents bigger by being in the ring with the champ. Had she not gotten pregnant I’m almost certain she would have made Shayna a star after mania.

She won against Asuka who is legit the best competitor in the game like really no hate but Becky is a mediocre in ring performer at best. She feuded with Natalya? Can't even recall that. Worse of the worst was Shayna who was a beast in nxt and had defeated her in survivor series. That whole vampire shit, invincible driving your own ambulance bull then roll up win turned Shayna into a joke. Can't even reconcile her character now with the true badass she is... So no. I enjoyed the reign overall. It created a huge star for WWE which is great, and the build all the way until WrestleMania worked. But after Mania, it hit a rough patch until her feud with Sasha, which really helped her out. Plus she had some great matches during this time (Hell In A Cell, tag team TLC, vs. Asuka at Royal Rumble and night after on RAW). She should've lost to Baszler to Mania 36 but overall I lean more positive on the reign than negative
I feel that with Becky knowing how great Sasha Banks is she pushed and instigated for Sasha to come back to wwe and feud with her. She knew Sasha was going to be the one to help her elevate her title reign!

They had fucked up by not building Shayna up a bit more as a intense heel that could offset becky Lynch. Have her go through the womens division and ultimately dethrone Becky and humble her, then from there build becky back up

I found it to be silly, at a time when the WWE was pushing women empowerment, you have a woman literally calling herself the man. Becky Lynch taps clean to Asuka then sneaks/begs her way into the royal rumble? Since when do babyfaces on their way to the top tap out clean with no interference? It made her look ridiculously weak and on the other hand, Charlotte tapped out Asuka so Becky is below 2 wrestlers 3 if you count Ronda Rousey. Then she spends the build up to mania getting her ass kicked near enough all the time and they couldn't even give her a clean win at Wrestlemania, instead they gave her a roll up, a botched one at that. It was a backhanded push.

Overall the run was amazing though it did drag out near the end as with long title reigns. It's extremely difficult to make it work in the current age of weekly tv. The reign itself broke the ceiling for what a female wwe star can do and her popularity was something you could compare to a prime Stone Cold or The Rock during the attitude Era. Match quality was hit or miss depending on who she wrestle. She's a solid wrestler herself but nothing that will define her career but rather her character work and mic skills during this run.

Becky's 2018-Early 2019 run was phenomenal. Everything really going from MITB 2018-Mania 35 was great. The feud with Charlotte, The Invasion, Triple Threat with Asuka and Charlotte, The Rumble it was all great. The Man was one of the best things in the wrestling business as a whole for a while. Past Mania 35 early on was ehh, everything involving Seth and Lacey Evans was not great at all. Afterwards while she lost steam, she still was doing great stuff ala Nattie Submission Match at Summerslam, The Sasha feud (even though she probably should've dropped the title here) was still pretty good and the HIAC match was one of the matches of the year easy. Everything else until Asuka is kind of a blur. Wasn't great, but wasn't bad type thing. She had another great match with Asuka, and then Shayna where she definitely should've lost the title (even Becky thought so). Vince refused, the rest is history. Overall, she had great things happen like that 2018-Early 19 run, Good things like Kabuki Warriors in 2020, Sasha feud and Natalya feud (yeah I said it), and some wtf things like beating Shayna and whatever that Lacey feud was. Overall, I think The Man was great and while it got a bit corny at times *COUGH COUGH EVERYTHING WITH SETH COUGH*, She relatively made up for it with some really great matches and I'd say The Man was a massive success.

The Man era was so iconic but I stopped momentum after she won both titles at WM35 and Rousey left WWE. Her Reign as Raw Women's Champion may not be that impactful but she handled it well. But she did what she did and that is to make herself the talk of the industry and the face of the entire WWE. She is already a living legend, Hall of Famer in the future and the GOAT. love her or hate her, she is still THE MAN.
PS. I stopped watching WWE when she left. The raw women's title lost it's momentum as well. I can't wait to see her back in the ring.
Becky's run was great. She was such a star that there weren't many women in the division that could compete with her, which made some of her title defenses feel unsatisfying. Goes to show you how over she was with the crowd. Looking forward to her return.

Her run was very underwhelming. She didn't give good matches. It was just her promos and talking a big game. But then there was no showing. The problem is her limited moveset. She has like 4 moves and that's just it.

It was fantastic. They created a megastar and fotc by accident. It was organic and not forced. She and the fans ran with it with many iconic moments and matches. Becky lynch is the female goat.

Overall, Bailey’s dominant reign as champion was done so much better and she never felt dull, and she lost at the right time to put somebody over while also never looking weak. Her promos are amazing and her in-ring work is unmatched in the Raw/Smackdown’s women division.
What killed it for me was when they acknowledged her real life romance with Rollins and tried making it into something. He was flopping as a babyface champ and it made her character a go from a badass to a "damsel in distress". That being said, her run was the most entertaining thing about WWE at the time and kept me watching. If she comes back; cool!
The last year of her title reign was largely a revenge tour. You look at her entire timeline in the WWE system (Raw, Smackdown and NXT), you'll see a pattern. Yes, she was the smiling one, but she was also the one everyone turned on. Natalia turned on her, Sasha turned on her, the only person to escape really was Paige. Then there was Asuka, the last obstacle she had to overcome, and that was really touch and go. She really put over how difficult it was for her to wrestle Asuka. But she finally did it, and that was the end of that story. Subtle story, mind, but real Becky Lynch fans I think got it. I think then we would have had Shayna chasing her post-WM, but...she got pregnant. Because to say she beat Shayna undersells how that match went down. She escaped with the title with her patented flash pin. There was nothing dominant about that win, and nothing to suggest Shayna would have been abated by the loss. But, I'm an old salty wrestling fan, who grew up on long term booking, so I look for nuance like this.

The problem with Becky's reign is the same problem with Kofi, and drew reign. They all centered into to one one matches and you most likely knew they weren't going to lose.

I went to a live event in my city and Becky Got The biggest pop outta everyone in the show. Actually when i found out she was in the show thats the only reason i bought tickets to go. Shes Very Pretty 😍
Some thoughts about this run, the heat for Charlotte constantly pushed definitely help taking a good start.
The Raw Invasion reinforced the support behind Becky (for once thank you Nia).
I wouldn't have make a Triple Threat at WM 35 because when you listen to the reaction of the crowd when Becky challenged Ronda, obviously they wanted a 1 on 1.
She was so over during her first months as Raw Women's Champion that it would have been throwing her opponent under the bus should she have lost her Title before Summerslam.
I would have agreed on Sasha if it wasn't for WWE 2K20 (she made the cover remember) being released around that time. Plus as you said Sasha (like Charlotte) overshadowed her at first so it kinda makes sense to reverse that.
Winning over Asuka was key because The Man can't have someone she's constantly unable to defeat.
And yes even as a Becky fan I think she should have lost to Shayna, that's what she suggested to officials and I wished they listen to her.
At least the very last promo of her reign with Asuka breaking Kayfabe is iconic.

When it all began EVERYONE LOVED IT!
I kinda faded out right after she retained against Sasha at Hell in a Cell 2019 and relaxed from then on and probably became too comfortable as Champion, especially after she retained against Asuka 💛
She really came along way from where she started, the start of 2018 was definitely beckys time to shine that I had been waiting for years ever since 2015, because it was indeed her moment to really lead the woman’s division and not just keep waiting to feel like she doesn’t deserve it yet but she does. Now ever since then, she has everything she ever wanted, Especially MAIN eventing Wrestlemania 35 was my dream wish for her.
To be honest I found this era the worst period in female wrestlers history in wwe and that’s because I’ve always found becky’s “the man” character extremely boring. The beginning was very good, feuding with charlotte (and those two together really bring down the arena, whether you like it or not) up to the tlc match with asuka. But then becky was built so incredibly strong that her winning every time became so obvious that I literally stopped watching raw and all the raw women’s championship matches on ppv, basically for over a hear I’ve felt like wwe had only smackdown in its programming. Even with the others top stars, like charlotte, bayley or asuka, you’re never completely sure about the ending of a match (even Ronda Rousey vs Sasha at Royal Rumble was breathtaking). And I’m really happy writing this in 2022 because after her return, “Big time becks” has become probably the greatest gimnick in recent years: still cocky, but also with “fear of losing” and extremely funny.

Becky must be the best female wrestler ive seen. Great promos, great matchups, great attitude beloved by fans. The new era of women division feels great and we have finally a product worth watching and sometimes it's even better than the men's division Becky is the best example of this new era for me and a megastar in the making.
Becky as 'The Man' was about the crowd revolting against Rousey and Charlotte.

Becky’s run as The Man was VERY GOOD! She finally got the success she deserved and she was over af! Even though they basically BOTCHED the Mania build, Becky still got her moment as THE MAN! Her RAW Women’s Championship run was good but it was quite lengthy.
Her smackdown reigns in 2018 was better than her raw reigns as she was not overshadowed by Ronda which a lot of smackdown women champion would be overshadowed by a Ronda raw women’s champion which Bayley was overshadowed by Becky both of Bayley run as the smackdown women champion when Becky was the raw women’s champion.

Becky’s run could’ve been booked better, but her wrestling is the weakest aspect of her. Becky’s move set needed to be more rough like Austin’s, punches stomps, thrown outside, over the barricade, and a quick snappy finisher that anyone can take.

This is why I appreciate Reigns title reign. The feud he has was pretty solid although the only dislikes in his title reign was the ending on the demon finn balor and brock lesnar but overall, it was fun and enjoyable to watch. I felt like if wwe properly used the feuds of becky lynch like Lacet Evans and Natalya, it would have been awesome and I was even hoping that Shayna would dethrone her because she has done enough of carrying the womens' division at that time but it is what it is. I would say her title reign is good and im not going far enough of that.
becky lynch was amazing, her rise up to the main event of wrestlemania was obviously better than her title run but she was the modern day stone cold of the women’s division. the pop she received every time she came out during her program with ronda was louder than any male superstar on the roster. i cant wait till she comes back.
