Best player and leader are not the same thing. Steph, Klay and Draymond were the LEADERS of the team. By "bus driver" vs. "bus rider," Barkley was clearly talking about leadership, not talent.

Let's be clear about something. Steph Curry was the best player on that GS team. He was the guy teams game planned for and the focal point of the team's offense. His willingness to sacrifice and take a back seat is the reason GS won. NOT Kevin Durant. It's not like Steph didn't average 27 and 28 ppg in the finals one year after the other.
Right! The game plan was guard Klay and Steph and play KD solo. Steph running off a screen demanded 2. Of course KD was able to get off he was basically playing 3 on 2, 2 on 1 or 1 on 1. Steph would never be afforded that luxury

I remember when SAS said "KD move to GSW is the weakest move in the NBA history". GSW won championship w/o Durant and beat him to get back to finals. KD with OKC went to the finals once when Russ, Harden, Himself were there & never been back. With BKY he can't even get out the 2nd round so what Charles said is correct. With the Warriors KD was a Bus Rider. The organization made sure to take care Curry, Klay & Green as they were the faces for GSW. He still a great player but he left OKC to join a 73 win team that beat him.
EVERYTHING changed when Kd’s mom went on first take. Stephen A soften up on the narrative his “that was the weakest move we’ve ever seen by a superstar” is one of his best take he ever had. Stephen A done extremely soft on him

You gotta understand when you join a team like that & defenses can’t blitz you, send help, revolve help around, etc, et, the game becomes extraordinarily easy for you. In addition, KD didn’t have the responsibility of running a team technically, physically, or emotionally which causes more wear & tear on a player & can ultimately alter the game(reasons why Mike, Kobe, Bron get so much respect). He also got to take plays off in GSW simply because he played with players who can create offense on their own…being the number one guy when talent is equally is an entirely different world

No Stephen A. He might have averaged better numbers when it counted most maybe but Steph was and always is THE best player on the GSW team. Who was double and triple teamed allowing everyone else to florish? That was not KD.
The system in place in GSW is mounted BECAUSE of what Curry can do. It's actually a blessing for us that lately, Poole has been able to approximate what Steph does on a normal basis!
KD didn't average better numbers in the regular season than Steph. In the three years KD was in Golden State, Steph was ALWAYS their leading scorer in the regular season. The problems Steph faced however was the fact that during the playoffs, teams had more time to gameplan for him and construct their defenses to take him out of rhythm. It was easy for KD to look like the "best player" on the warriors because not only did he not face the defensive coverages Curry faced, but also benefited from the spacing provided by the defensive attention on both Steph and Klay. THIS IS INDISPUTABLE because not only have the Celtics shown that Durant can be taken out of his game when defenses focus on him, but also the Warriors showed this when they played against Durant in the 2016 WCF. Would KD have played as poorly against the Celtics if his team were the 2017, 2018, or 2019 Warriors? My point is made.

Klay always has underperformed on the big stage even though he's considered on of the greatest shooters. Even in the 2015 finals, Klay was putting up single digit scoring games.

Charles Barkley never said kd was a flat out “bus rider” he said when it’s time to be the “bus driver” its a different ball game. When you’re kd and playing with two of the top 5 greatest shooters to play basketball it’s more than easy for him to be kd, when you look at his career at any point other than when he was on the warriors he didn’t get the job done. And after getting swept the narrative continues to be the same.

Kevin Durant wouldn't have been able to do 99% of what he did on the Warriors if it weren't for Dray,Klay, and Curry. Teams are game planning to keep those three at bay. Teams were not game planning how to stop KD. Durant had the easiest ride to a couple chips if you put even any mid level star on that team (Middleton, Butler etc.) they still win the championship both those years.

GSW badly needed an ISO player that time. Had Irving and Love didn't suffer injuries back in 2015 playoffs then Cavs might've beaten the GSW twice.
GSW are a winning team during those years BUT they are BEATABLE! Durant changes that in an instant from being beatable to BEING UNTOUCHABLE!
But yeah, no matter what we do, we can't deny that KD ride his way together with the GSW to get an easy ring. But give him credit, he DID carry the loads in the finals twice!
And I don't think the likes of Middleton will have a bigger impact than KD did. Maybe Butler.

How is something the Warriors do going to affect KD? Even if they win this season, it doesn't negate the fact that they ran to get KD and he was the best player on the team. In his last season, all Kerr was doing was feeding the ball to KD and not committing to his offense of ball movement with Curry. His coaching was a huge reason KD got injured to begin with.
They already won a chip without KD. If they win another without him that has nothing to do with him. Jordan Poole is putting up elite numbers and there's no Lebron, Kyrie and Love for the GSW to face anymore.

Lebron catches way more doubles than Kyrie, yet Lebron still outproduced Kyrie in every stat. If you are the best offensive player on your team, it will show on the stat sheet. If kyrie outproduced bron in pts,reb,asts in the Finals, I guarantee everyone would be saying kyrie was the best player on that Cavs team(even though Lebron catches more double teams). Keep the same energy for Curry. KD has 2 FMVP's Curry has 0. Very telling.

I would say KD was a bus rider to the Warriors as a team, rather than just Steph. I think most people would say any ( or most) all stars that went to the Warriors would have won with them. Didn’t Stephen A. called it the weakest move by a superstar player?
You could be the best player but it don’t make you the team leader. Draymond was the vocal leader on the court but the warriors followed Kerr. Irving and kd seem very passive with confrontation with team mates. Nash did what he could but he didn’t have enough to work with to get a chip or even pass a solid team like Boston.
Boston finally realized their pg has been there all along w/ Marcus smart. All them guards (kyrie, Kemba, and Schroeder) leaving Boston was the best thing to happen to Boston.

I can’t definitively say KD was the best player on GSW, I just think he benefited the most from being in that system. Steph, Klay, and even Dray drew so much attention defensively that with KD’s height and shooting ability he SHOULD’VE appeared to be the best of them all. He had less coverage than all of them (starting with his height and the fact that there were at least 2 other snipers to worry abt).
Now that the defense can focus on him (and when he has tall defenders on him) he gives you a terrible series MEANWHILE Steph and GSW are operating as business as usual. KD just benefited the most from the system.
