I remember seeing this fight on PPV at the D.C. Armory. Immediately after the fight a group of hispanic men (around 40) were gathered outside in the parking lot. Suddenly it turned into a tornado of men brawling. Apparently over the fight

Not really. Oscar and Chavez were nothing like each other, their personalities, their styles, they were nothing alike. Out of the ring they both partied alot. Thats not in dispute.

I’ll never understand comments like this. There’s more than just brawling. There’s an art to defense and counterpunching and Floyd mastered that. Realistically the point is to hit and not get hit. The fight I never wanted to see. My two favorites going at it. It’s funny because I remember in a interview Oscar was asked if he would ever fight his idol Chavez, and he said no 🤦♂️
I think he changed his mind later on when chavez sparred him as he was training for a fight Oscar said he was so embarrassed cuz he was the only sparring partner that got dropped

7:36-7:38 oscars reflexes , speed and explosiveness were no joke . That jump back and dash forward for a strike was beautiful.
Exactly, that really bamboozled me how he managed to pull that shot off, and he did that again close to the end, but connected with the body shot, then hooks, then started the vicious combos that sealed the fight, shown at slow motion near the end.
The exact same move started the end of the fight.
Chavez was old already. A prime Chavez would have easily KO'd Oscar...

ESPN had both of them some years ago and they admitted that Chávez had that cut during the training, Oscar did said that he knew but Chávez didn’t cancel or said anything about postponing the fight
Without the cut, I believe Chavez would have eventually worn Oscar down, much like he did to Meldrick Taylor.

Really bring life to the saying “you gotta fly like a butterfly sting like a bee”. Real fundamentals of boxing 🥊

una de las cosas que siempre me ha gustado del boxeo es que una sola tecnica la puedes ensensar a 10 personas diferentes y literalmente cada uno desarrolla su propio estilo, oscar tiene muy buena tecnica en defensa y combate.
En algún momento note a Óscar dando clemencia a julio , pienso pudo darle mucho más duro Oscar pero había respeto al rival

I loved watching De La Hoya growing up and I dont remember this fight exactly so it was fun to watch but I get the feeling De La Hoya held back out of respect til the end.

I remember this fight...Oscar had huge respect & if I remember he said Chavez was his idol growing up...Chavez was a true legend & a Mexican warrior who never disappointed...The Taylor fight was an example of that huge heart he had.
