Patty Crust
Ingredients:
1 lb. Flour
½ lb. Cold Grated Beef Suet (Butter is a decent substitute)
½ tbsp Sugar
½ tsp Salt (Optional, especially if your using salted butter)
~½ cup Ice cold water
~2 tbsp Egg Powder (Tumeric or Curry can be subbed here but anticipate a flavour change)
Method:
Note: You can chill all the ingredients and bowl for the best result
In a bowl, combine the flour, egg powder and half the cold Beef Suet (¼ lb.). Keep the rest of suet in the fridge to stay cold
Mix to distribute all the ingredients evenly.
About 1 tablespoon at a time add the ice cold water and mix dough until the flour is hydrated and the dough comes together.
Chill dough in refrigerator for about 30-40 minutes
Lightly flour rolling pin and work surface
Remove dough from the fridge and roll out into a rectangle, folding the dough helps to make a neater rectangle.
Remove the second half of the Beef Suet from the fridge and place a quarter of it in the center third of the rectangle
Fold the bottom third of the rectangle over the middle third with the beef suet
Place another quarter of the beef suet over the folded over bottom third of the dough
Fold over the top third of the dough over the beef suet to complete a thick rectangle.
Roll out dough to make a rectangle similar to the one we started with.
Repeats steps 7-11 until all the suet is done
Fold and roll the dough 2 or 3 more times to increase the layers and flakiness, wrap tightly and refrigerate for 30- 40 minutes.
Mince Beef Filling
Ingredients:
1 lb Lean Ground Beef
2 tsp Curry Powder
2 tbsp Chopped Garlic
3 tbsp Chopped Onion
2 tbsp Chopped Escallion/Green Onion/Spring Onion
1 tbsp Chopped Scotch Bonnet Pepper
1 tsp Ground Pimento/Allspice
3 Tbsp Chopped Green Bell Pepper
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
¼ Cup Soy Sauce
1 Cup Panade (Simply 3 slices of bread blended smooth with ~½ cup water)
1 Sprig of Thyme (I didn't use it in the video but it's great)
1 tbsp Seed and Chopped Tomato (Not in the video either but it's delicious!)
Method:
Brown mince beef; in a pot add a splash of oil and let it get hot before adding the ground beef, as soon as the beef changes colour remove from pot to another container and place the pot back on the heat
Add another splash of oil to the pot, let it get hot then add the curry powder and saute for about a minute
Add Garlic, Onion, Escallion, Scotch Bonnet Pepper, Pimento, Thyme and Allspice and give it a good saute on high heat.
Add Chopped Bell Peppers and Tomato if your using them and saute for about another 2 to 3 minutes
Strain excess fat from mince beef and add to the pot
Add Soy Sauce and Panade to the filling
Add Salt and Sugar after tasting and simmer for about 2 minutes
Which an immersion blender, blend the filling so its less chunky and more smooth, a food processor or regular blender also works pretty well.
Set aside to cool
Assembly!
Remove dough from fridge and divide if necessary
Roll out dough into a rectangle that's about 3 mm thick.
With a quarter cup measure, measure out the now cool filling (smaller portions are also okay, the measuring cup is only for consistency of portions)
Place filling at regular intervals on the rectangular dough avoiding getting too close to the edge.
Now is the time to add a bit of your favourite cheese
Fold over the long edge of the dough over the filling to form a thinner rectangle then pat out excess air from between the dough.
Use a ravioli cutter to cut out the patties!
Another technique is to cut out circles with a large cookie cutter or bowl, place the filling in the center, fold over dough to form a semicircle and use a fork to seal the edges.
Place on a lined baking tray and bake patties in a preheated oven at 325 to 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes. - Jak na to + styl
I finally tried this recipe today and my family was amazed by the authenticity of the flavors and not to mention the crust!! . Hands down the best patty recipe on the internet.
I'm glad you tried and enjoyed! 👌🏾
it’s not authentic there’s no bacon
@@brownie3454 nobody cares
@@switzerstudio its not authentic there’s no bacon
@@brownie3454Bacon?
If I introduced these to my diet I'd be 90% beef patty.
Amen. 😊
I’ve tried to replicate the pastry on these for years but you can tell it’s 100% authentic from the flakiness and the color of the pastry and consistency of the filling.
Perfect stuff.
I never knew how strenuous the process was for Jamaican Patties. Wow. A labor of love.
200% worth it though...
@@feedandteachhi again, I'm still gathering the ingredients you have recommended. Just wanted to confirm that it's 2 tablespoons of egg powder to use, rather than teaspoons - as it seems rather a lot? Kindly confirm please. Thank you
It's two tablespoons, I was having trouble getting a deep enough colour but if that measurement makes you uncomfortable you can add in increments when your first adding the iced water.
@@feedandteach Thank you for taking the time out to reply & your swift response. I will take on board your suggestion & let you know how I get along. All the very best. Have a great day 😊
No prob👌🏾
For those who don't have egg powder, use half of the water and 1 whole egg (larger the better). The water content in the egg accounts for roughly 1/4 cup.
Thank you friend ❤🙏🥳 Happy cooking!
Thank you so much 😊❤
He says that the egg powder is for color, it's not the powdered egg substitute.
@@ciac1484 you still get color with a real egg lol
thank you
The Jamaican beef patty is one of the best tasty food in the world! Approved by a Chinese.
No man 😢God bring to this video. Young man let me tell ,this is the best video I've seen over the years of making Jamaican patty, this AUTHENTIC mi naw ask nobody. Mi haffi sub to this channel. I'm here for everything 🇯🇲💯💐👏. Sir ,you said beef suet an mi start sweat, yuh know yuh ting
How many of y'all are watching this after eating some frozen Beef Patties from the store, you didn't even search for how to make them but CZcams KNEW you were thinking about how to make them yourself? Just me? 😅
Bro I just moved to the far south east USA and can’t find the damn frozen patties and so now I’m resorting to cooking them myself bcs I miss em too much😂😂
Bro actually the same hahahaha been thinking about how to make them recently been gettin a brand that aren’t half bad in the air fryer but want to know how to make them fresh ahaha suddenly it shows up
Literally just happened
Thank God I live in Florida and there's Jamaican restaurants and bakeries everywhere. I love it
I think some of the patties in Florida, made by Jamaicans, are the best. I won't name them here but two places are even better that what I've had in Jamaica.
I grew up in NYC ... It was either Colombian Empanadas or Jamaican Beef Patties... This recipe is AMAZING!
I got hooked on these when I was stationed in Guantanamo. Many of the on-base employees were Jamaican and could cook! I still eat them today (I was there in 1984.)
It’ a good try , the crust and thickness isn’t the same as the ones on the island.
Took me two tries. But I must say... your method is spot on... flaking was perfect. And the taste... 😊😊😊 Thank you for taking the time to post and explain step by step.
Stay Blessed.
Took me way more than 2 so that's good!😄
@@feedandteachIm lazy so i will try with flaky supermarket pastry lol
Thanks for sharing.
The Jamaican beef patty should be as well known & popular as tacos, pizza & buffalo wings! They are amazing!
Absolutely right. People are missing out!
Jamaican beef patties are my favorite dinner⛽️
@@s7ts they are wonderful!
Frankly I'm surprised when people don't know about them. I grew up in Scarborough and there was a shop run by a Jamaican family that sold homemade ones, I miss them terribly. The frozen supermarket ones don't hold a candle to them, but I bet this recipe would be damn close if I can ever find the motivation to make my own.
@@K-Anator I only discovered them like 10 years ago via the frozen ones. I've had store made one's since then & they were definitely the superior.
I'm 49 now & grew up in Atlanta. Atlanta has always, in my lifetime, been a very multicultural & multiethnic city. We had restaurants as diverse as Chinese, Korean, Mongolian, Thailand, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Moroccan, Indian, Mexican, Filipino, non-Jamican "Caribbean", French, German. Russian. Etc...
But before I moved out of Atlanta I don't recall seeing a Jamaican restaurant; there are definitely some now.
I'm guessing that the Jamaican population in the US has traditionally been concentrated in certain cities and not as widespread as some other groups. As a result those areas might know Jamaican food well but in other areas it has not been a thing or not until more recently.
Who knows maybe it will become as big a dish as tacos, pizza & gyros some day. I think that would be a great day personally.
This is one of the best cooking videos and lessons I have ever seen. Very relaxed, low pressure, and smooth delivery. Thank you for all the hard work and research into putting this together. I am always looking to expand my recipes for my family and have always loved authentic Jamaican beef and jerk chicken patties. I will be trying this very soon.
I always thought there wasn't something right about the curry and tumeric this really does look like the authentic Jamaican Patty, especially that flaky texture!
I used to live across the street from a Jamaican food place. I would go and get the beef patty with cheese and coco bread every single time I could afford it 🤤 one of my favorite snacks/meals of all time. I don’t live anywhere near a place that sells them anymore so now I’ll have to learn to make it 😅
I feel lucky that I came across this channel. I’ve always been curious with Jamaican cuisine ever since I’ve had those patties (surprisingly, they sell ‘em here in the Philippines). I don’t think the patties sold here are as good as the one you make though, so I should probably try this out myself too. I hope you make it big here in CZcams!
I'm not surprised, although we are a very small island Jamaicans live all over the world.
howd it taste
I was so surprised when I went to Manila and saw they had patties. As a Jamaican, I had to try because I haven't been home in a while. Actually, it wasn't too bad.
This seems like the best recipe online for true Jamaican beef pattys. Looks great, thanks.
It is, I especially like the flakiness of the patty crust
@@Ami-xf6ryits so good, even the edges with no filling is delicious.
Greetings everyone Blessed morning Feed and Teach finally I found the egg powder coloring. I have to comment which I hardly do. Great job, very detailed and accurately informative. Your presentation is world class BTW. Congratulations on a successful showcase of a Jamaican recipe.
Thanks...💯👌
The combination of the filming, lighting, food preparation, music, voice-over, and background sounds of nature are simply mesmerizing! 💯 💯 💯 I'm hooked! I had to hit subscribe!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Come to my house, i'll make you hooked on me
Some unique ingredients.. but this stuff looks great

The best patty recipe I've seen, the filling dope❤
Bredrin! First time watching you. Your production values are up!! Thank you for the masterclass. You’re a born teacher. Not a fan of suet and I prefer the firmer texture of the filling, but with all the principles you so clearly set out, I’m able to tweak it to my taste. Can’t compliment and thank you enough. Respect!
Love these little things. Thanks for posting your method
This made me smile big ! I miss my mum 🇯🇲I’m try this myself! Thank you!
Wow, the detail provided in this video is amazing. Thank you so much!
Wow I love Jamaican beef patties. They're so good.🤤😋
Thank you for this recipe! 😊
Thank you for sharing. Very excited to try these!
This looks incredible. I can't wait to try it out.
It reminds me somewhat of an Australian meat pie we have at home here; same handlability, flaky pastry, and meat-gravy texture. But the flavours look so much more intense, and my mouth is watering just imagining it.
Thanks so much for this!
That was hypnotic to watch 🧘🏻♂️. The colour of the pastry looks so good. The whole thing looks so good 🤤
From one chef to the next, you're spot on and very detailed.thanks 💯👏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Feed & Teach love your calmness and step by step instructions🙏🖤💛💚❤
It looks amazing!, I’ve been looking this patty for years on many tv travel shows thinking how incredible would be and now I can do it by my self, thanks for sharing
Me and my family moved to America when I was 9 for better education and stuff like that, and I completely forgot about Jamaican food. Watching this channel reminded me all about my dad's cooking and the food we would eat when I lived in Jamaica, and I am very thankful to have remembered all those flavors and memories. I can't wait to go make these with my mom 🙏
Looks very tasty and mouth watering I'll have to try it cause these patties are so expensive here in Jamaica 🇯🇲
No better education than what you can get in Jamaica. I am born American raised in Jamaica and my American peers are dumb. They don't learn to think..right up till college, they lack critical thinkers.
Your family moved for better jobs, that is true. Better education? Can't beat Jamaica.
Big up St. Jago High School ❤
I really love the way you make these patty
Thanks for this demo. I will be trying. Been searching for a great patty crust.
Looks so good! Thanks for uploading and sharing this. I can't wait to impress my girl by making this for her.
Very thorough and well made! Great job.
I tried my first patty this year, never have I ever been more excited to try one it was delicious
Im definitely trying this recipe 😊
What a breath of fresh air! I love this video and the vibe. I am making this recipe this weekend. I don’t have beef suet but will put some beef bouillon in the butter or patty dough to give it beef flavor. I’ve made Pattie’s before but nothing like this. This looks flavorful and tasty. Cannot wait.
One of the better cooking tutorials ive seen, good job man. Hope your channel blows up, you got a like from me.
The clarity of your voice is awesome...makes it easy to follow the instructions and have me ready to try it out. Great job!
A master at work! Can't wait to try out this recipe! Watched all the way through. And the end result looks great!

Thank you Chef. I enjoyed and shared this video. Every blessing.
I used this pastry technique exactly as prescribed using all butter, taking care to keep it frozen/chilled at every step. the results were really amazing. Thank you and good luck!!
Thank you for the recipe 😊; because, I can save my money. I love Jamaican patties and I have been purchasing it alot; now I can make my own.

Thanks so much for your very precise, knowledgeable explanation.
You are a true professional, your instructions just kept flowing.
Thank you... very detailed and easy to follow.
🙏🏾 I’ve been searching for a video that explains how to get that perfect yellow flaky crust (without curry or turmeric) and that authentic juicy beef filling…this is it! It’s easy to tell you love what you do. Wishing you much success on your CZcams journey 😊
I like the way u make your patty very delicious wow thanks for showing us .
This looks amazing. Thanks for sharing your recipe with great explanation.❤
Amazing recipe.
I'm keto, so I use the same ingredients except (and this is the sub for keto viewers):
2 cups wheat flour --> 2 cups almond flour + 2/3 c vital what gluten + 1/3 c whole psyllium husk
And replace the sugar with Allulose for the crust, and Erythritol for the filling. (Allulose helps with crisping the dough).
It came out VERY close to your amazing patty.
Thanks for the recipe. One of the few online that are AUTHENTIC Jamaican.
Impressive!
Allulose is a poison so, enjoy the damage to your DNA.
Excellent video and explanation, can’t wait to try it. I love patties 😋
Gotta try this yummy recipe
This looks delicious! Thanks for the recipe!
I was 2004 in Jamaica when i discovered Jamaican Patties. I ate them every day until i had to leave. So delicious. i haven't eat them since then. Will try that for sure. Many thanks.
I don't even know how I came across this channel but this looks amazing. I've never ever heard about panade before. Wow. Great skills and the teaching was clear. Great job boss
Yep. BEST MOST AUTHENTIC YET. ON THE INTERNET. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

Dem pretty bad😍
Amazing techniques , so enjoyed your videos, so relaxing.. thank you for sharing.
That dough looks so beautiful
THIS IS THE BEST, THE BEST I SUBSTITUTED THE BEEF FOR VEGAN BEEF AND IT WAS JUST GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im so glad that this came up on my feed. You explained so much of what I always wondered concerning the beef texture and how it was so smooth. Also your use of beef suet was genius!
beef tallow is the same, right?
@skaterlover1999 It isn't. Tallow is made from suet. Suet is harder than tallow. 😊
@@skaterlover1999go to your local butcher, they will likely have some. Its cheaper than butter. around 2 dollars a lb in texas. Its hard and melts at room tempature like butter. Its difficult to work with to be honest but its neccessary to get the crust right.
Wow fantastic recipe. I love the tips you share at each step. So helpful! Your channel makes me excited to cook new recipes. Thank you 🤩
New to the channel. I must say, I throughly enjoyed
this video. Your background music is so relaxing,
your voice so soothing and instructions very clear.

You’re a very gifted educator and chef!🎉
I’ve tried making patties over the years but no recipe comes close to this. This is the first time I achieved a flaky crust. My family loved it. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Your instruction skills are next level👍🏾.
Wonderful!
Earned yourself another sub!
I used to get Jamaican patties from street vendors in London. Pure comfort food! Can't wait to knock up some of these!
You taught me something new today, what beef suet is! Thank you!
