According to Florian Schwarzer (senior product manager for the game) picking a Tremere in Bloodlines 2 will cause enemies to want to go after you harder and do more damage since Tremere are so feared and mistrusted. So if you want combat to be a more intense experience it would be great for you, though I'm sure having the power to explode and take additional blood from your enemies will balance it out somewhat.

After playing one in the first game I can see why. Their blood magic is some crazy shit. Maybe why it's my favorite clan.
I started as a tremere in Bloodlines recently (first playthrough of the game ever for me), so some fights have been tough for me, focusing almost anything on socials (seduction) and thaumaturgy, which is quite useful, but I run out of blood quickly in fights. So you gonna tell me in Bloodlines 2 this is gonna be even harder? I am somewhat of a masochist, so I guess I will start as Tremere again.
@@Luemm3l The discipline powers in 2 restore blood. They're set up to be relatively spammable, at least against mobs.

Tremere believed magic was fading from the earth(actually reality was changing in what was acceptable - fantasy to technology). So losing their avatar was an accepted trade off for vampire powers and blood to power their magic.
Wouldn't this be considerd the worst deal in vampire history?

It was that or die of old age for most of the Tremere elders. The magic they used to be immortal was failing and yes they assumed they could keep their avatars and were desperate to not die..

For me, it was always like this in Bloodlines 1:
- Tremere for the gameplay (abilities), because I just love to play mage-esque types whenever possible.
- Malkavian for dialogues.

@@robertivey7644 Funnily enough, they basically had to reinvent their magecraft.
Human mages use 'soul' magic. Becoming a vampire dramatically changes not just the body, but the spirit as well, as a result, their old mage craft was no longer possible for them, and they had to start again from scratch.

Tremere are definitely my favorite clan. Then again I am also mainly a Mage player and I feel like Tremere is the vampire clan for Mage players, due in no small part to their origins, but still. Blood magic also just feels like the most sensible power for vampires to have. They drink it, they need it to sustain their conscious existence, they draw power from it for their Disciplines, why not make a system of static magic based on it for vampires?
Malkavian are my favorite... Man they are funny as hell to play.
These two clans, malk and trem, are in fact even for my favourite clan since they're kinda like the two sides of a coin, both seeking knowledge at all costs, both able to subtly influence people's minds (dementation and domination) as well as both being able to see beyond sight (auspex), both relying on wits and their mind more than brute force or charisma (though the way i play it i also use charisma a lot because scholarship is amazing), both shunned or at least not appreciated by the wider society despite being a crucial part of it and wanting to be inside this structure (this applies especially to the camarilla). This is why i'd say these two clans are the best ones, or at least the most fun. Nosferatu also share a lot of those traits which makes them slightly better than basic bitch brujah and other clans like them.
Little miss fact, clan Giovanni was also started off as a Mage family. So they will also have their own form of Blood Magic not unlike the Tremere.
It is easily stated that all mages in Venice are loyal to clan Giovanni....

kris palermo I don’t one much about that clan other than their penchant for necromancy, but I can see the Giovanni having ties to the Euthanatos. Maybe even roots. Like how Tremere blood magic is rooted in Hermetic magic.
I’ve never had the opportunity to play Giovanni, though.
@@krispalermo8133 I believe the Giovanni were actually just a group of necromancer merchants. It never states if they were mage necromancers or sorcerer necromancers.
to clarify, the clan wide blood bond was only a partial bond. The tremere prefer it this way because the full bond makes for ineffective servants. A full bond was reserved mostly as a punishment.
As for house Carna and its sex blood bond, Carna is no saint and theres certainly a dark side to her house. Also, the reason Carna kept her house in the Camerilla despite having clear Anarch sympathies, is that she fears Tremere. Shes afraid she will still be punished for her little rebellion and doesn't want to push her luck. (she doesn't know Tremere's location but seems to assume the mystical cooperation among the houses is being enforced by Tremere). Unknown to her, Tremere likely supports her but won't tell her because fear is a useful tool of control. Hes a jerk like that.

@@otakuofmine Tremere is still in Goratrix body. Its practically a given that hes behind the formation of House Goratrix in V5. And by support, I don't mean anything direct but rather hes ok with House Carna existing. In Beckett's Diary, one outcome of Carna's chapater is that Tremere supports her and it seems implied that this is the canon outcome given that in V5 there is a fragile peace between the three accepted Houses. Note that the full blown Anarch house is the only one openly hunted by House Tremere.

@@otakuofmine No Problem. Most of the clan doesn't know Tremere switched bodies and he probably wants the clan in two different sects to maximize survivability. Same reason the Malks are primarily in either the Cam or Sabbat.

Yes pen and paper books are a excellent souce if you can find them but also look for a copy Laws Of The Night aka Mind's Eye Theatre: Vampire- The Masquerade.. its the LARP rule book.

The problem with playing them first is that they kind of ruin the other clans for you. This game, I'll probably go with ventrue first. Nice vanilla camarilla.

I'm mage for life, so Tremere are the best thing i can have in bloodlines... a pale shade of true MAGICK, but something nontheless.
The big part is that Order of Hermes prohibits dealing with the demons and the undead, so Tremere house was to be put to death once discovered.
Irrc Vampire society punishes Vampires with the True Death for consorting with Demons.
Why? It's not like they can make a pact.

I would kill for that. It would be really, really hard pull off though. Mages can do almost anything.
I would LOVE for a game to pull of the mage magic system. I don't know how it would work though, combat would HAVE to be turn based or involve freezing time, the sheer amount of different effects would make a control scheme insanely complex.
Not going to happen. Dynamic magic is just not possible to replicate in a video game.
@@OsirisLord it would be years of work to make magic system alone let alone the rest of the game. Titanic amount of effort for a game not that many people would play relatively speaking.
I think a Werewolf or Changeling game would be easier to pull off simply because HOW do you code for the Sphere-based magic that Mages use, let alone Paradox? If you made a Mage game I think you would have to restrict players to Rote spells and the Spheres would be relegated to some kind of rote and rite crafting system, kind of like the Magic system in Tyranny. Then you have to simplify Paradox and Paradox Spirits like Wrinkle (or as I like to call him: OH F*CK ME!)
@Outstar After watching the video and reading the comments I think you've done a better job presenting the game and its background for fans than the developer's trailers.
The small cosplay (makeup, jewels are spot on) and you do your "homework" each time researching the lore. Hyped for the next clan reveal.
Of course, there's the minor difference of how she doesn't also have to design a functional game while making the trailers...
Seriously though, trailers aren't supposed to be heavy on details anymore. They're supposed to catch your attention so you go and look up the details. And I'd much rather have them devote their time and resources to making an awesome game than awesome trailers.

Thank you for the lore video, I’ve always had a bit of trouble getting into the vampire the masquerade setting because I found the New world of darkness setting first. This really helped clear up some misunderstandings for me, because whenever I hear the word “Tremere” the first thing that pops into my head are the litches from mage the awakening. This video made the lore really easy to follow.
I love the changes to Tremere. Poetic revenge for the diablerization of Saulot and the lies spread which resulted in the almost total genocide of the Salubri. Love the vids! Keep’em coming!
Tremere was also the first Clan I picked on Bloodlines. I had a lot of fun playing a former mob associate turned Anarch, though I did really struggle in the late game due to having pretty average Firearms and Melee skills. Had to resort to cheats to beat the Sherriff. Still, loved my time with it, and thank you for this video!
It may be a bit outside the scope of the channel (given the amount of Vampire focused content and, oh, the impending Bloodlines 2), but a video on Mages would be really interesting to me, as my first flirtation with the World of Darkness was playing a Mage near the end of my high school life.
Yes please, make a Salubri video! A Salubri healer was my first character. Unfortunately the group existed for two evenings or so, so I couldn't really play it, but now I have a similar NPC I can play in a different group. And I am so in love with it! ^^

Thank you for these videos. New to this franchise and Im learning so much. After seeing the trailer and then watching this, I am sliiiiiightly leaning towards Tremere, but Im looking forward to seeing what the other clans offer. And since Im new to this and coming in with fresh eyes, all of this is just insane to me. Also since Ive always favored Werewolves over Vampires, its interesting that they are so much more powerful in the hierarchy than Vampires in this series. They are so underutilized in video games and media in general. Cant wait for the Season of the Wolf expansion

Again thanks for a fuller look of the history. Though I would say a first rage werewolf would have the best chance. Mages are strong but mainly when they are ready or properly prepared. Vampires get bad when there are old enough. Week of nightmares will always show why people should be afraid of the blood of cain.
When this game comes out, if it comes out, I will most likely play as Tremere again.
The Tremere are the most underrated vampire clans in the Series in my opinion
The reason they lost their gift of magick is due to the spiritual avatar being destroyed after being embraced and their body being dead for the spiritual avatar within was destroyed and their link to spiritual enlightenment was no more and tremere paid the price for what he did to poor salout of clan salubri

my first playthru of VTMB was with a Tremere, except I had no idea what I was doing, so I somehow ended up with ridiculously high unarmed and melee skills, and beat the entire game almost without touching blood magic because i was afraid of frenzying from hunger. good memories. looking forward to playing a proper tremere in vtmb2!

but really that was one of my favorite character, a Tremere with the Unbondable merit living with the Anarchs and keeping a low profile to stay off Tremere's "we'll send assassins after you" radar, plus lacking the "hey you can get a path or ritual to break everything" feature of the clan that makes them so broken pre-V5.

Tremere is by far my favorite type to play and within Tremere, House Karna. I love magic, if there is a mage option in a game I'm playing it. I also love the idea of immortality mixed with magic and the idea of feeding without needing to bite anyone. I can go to the club or coffee shop or wherever there is a crowd and absorb the blood from dozens.
I loved my Tremere run in Bloodlines 1. I can't decide if I'm going to do them first in Bloodlines 2. I learned a lot about tremere from the video though, and it feels like they are a bit more flexible than they used to be.

The Tremere is one of my favorite clans. I created a Tremere fledgling who sire was killed in the attack on the Vienna chantry and left the Camarilla for the Anarchs. She considered the monolithic structure of the clan to be a liability; a irony because it was also their strength, too.

Tremere clan proved in the Massasa wars that vampires can fight mages.
TLDR:
If an elder vampire wants to fight against mages (with 3+ arete) he needs to use his advantages. Create a vampire is much easier than a mage, enslaves the high generations with blood bond to send them to die and feed them with animals. In modern times can even use cheap thin-blood with sunlight resistance, or any other slave like ghouls or gargoyles. The danger of paradox for mages can increase with human witnesses (police, mercenaries, government agencies, etc) thanks to Kindred political, economic and information power just like Technocracy techniques.
There are other useful things. A mage can live in the material realm around 500 years without the paradox killing him, a vampire until someone else eliminates him. Attack the weakness as a low level sphere, which is necessary to defend against a certain discipline. Kindreds are immune to most chemical or biological weapons. The embrace destroy the avatar of the mage. He can also transform mages in ghouls but he have to be repeating the bond because they can remove it with some spheres.
The Tremeres were very effective. After the first Massasa war. The population of The Order of Hermes decreased from +1200 to 100 mages.
But hey, the greatest enemies that vampires, mages and werewolves have are their own kind.
Anyway if the entire population of each species fight. Humans who are the weakest alone would win an open war because population xD

How can they use Technocracy techniques?
@@jonathantanner7083 Using the consensus in their favor. Through their political and economic power. The use of slaves and technology. The handling of information and the manipulation of government agencies to force the use of vulgar magic and increase the danger of suicide by paradox.
They response and come at you from dozens of different angles. Certifications lost, licenses revoked, warrants issued, finances messed up, employees (or employers) being influenced, etc. And they do all of this with computers, bribes, and science. Imagine seeing your cabal's name posted on the nightly news as a recently discovered domestic terrorist cell - not easy to fight against.

Tremere is one of the more fun clans to play for the simple fact that if you understand how MTA works, you can come off as godlike around a bunch of vampires.
Man I can't wait for this game. Tremere till the day i die! Will be really cool if there are a selection of houses!
In my tabletop game many Tremere are mummies and some have become true Immortals (Dios) however not many know though the Order of Hermes and the Lasombra suspect if the two groups ever shared knowledge they'd know for sure. All Tremere acolytes are sorcerers with • in two spell schools and •• in one other of their choosing making even them more powerful than your average ally. They are attempting to build a new Paradigm and are the closest to succeed as their diverse groupings (Mages, Vampires, Mummies, Wraiths, Demon Hunters and mortal sorcerers all within the Tremere organization) give them the advantage (Paradigm Shift is my homebrew WOD campaign) world
I always found it helpful to consider what the character is supposed to be in the world when they hit certain levels of power. The fact that the absolute end point of a mages power is literally becoming a god... Anyhow, definitely playing Tremere vampire in BL2, because awesomeness of a bloodthirsty scholar aside, the synergy of going from blood alchemy to blood magic just seems so cool!

Wow, you just know so much stuff about the WoD that makes me wish they would release a game for each of them and have you as the one to explain how each group works, their strengths and weaknessess, their lore and etc.
Please do a video on the second inquisition, it's one of my favorite parts of v5. Humans finding out about vampires because they find nosforatu on the internet is just to fun. Also, they now know about vampires, but they're still stumbling in the dark, litterally.

Yeah, it's taken from Beckett's Jyhad Diary. Goratrix is also a hot piece of butt, apparently. Tremere was quite lovable too, he had 3 lovers according to the clan lore.

Just an extra note, House Tremere has reformed the Pyramid so if you want to play old school Tremere with all their rules and hierarchy then this is the house for you.
When I first played VM:B I was a Ganrel but then I switched to Tremere. I took some test some say I would be a Toredor or Ventrue looking forward to playing.

Tremere sound like the perfect clan for me. It was the first clan I picked in VTMB too.

My first clan as well in Bloodlines 1... second play through modded was Malkavian. Both highly recommend and completely different play styles. I would probably go Ipsy dipsy because don’t want to be a slave thanks. Keep up the great work! 🍻
Well, Tremere, Gangrel, and Nosferatu are the only interesting 3 clans out of the original 7 gameplay-wise without wanting to laugh and awe at a Malkavian.
So Tremere down, 2 to go.
I hope we can play as Maeghar versions of each clan.
Well the malk's dementation is a stronger version of the tremere's domination, i'd say on par with the ventrue's domination since it allows you to pseudo persuade people in conversation, and both of them have auspex, so while i admit that thaumaturgy is absolutely fantastic i'll also say you can do the same things with guns or fortitude or flamethrowers. So i'd say malk is part of the list of good clans personally.

As soon as I watched the Paradox video introducing my most beloved clan- with the Ventrues I have to admit- , I was like "Hell yeah Outstar will make a great one on this topic very soon"
And I wasn't disappointed to say the least!
On another hand what about the changelings? Back in the early/mid 1990s when I used to play White Wolf PnP RPGs Changeling was such a blast!
I totally love Changeling system :) Changeling: The Lost book is one of the prettiest books in my collection, that's for sure!
Outstar Cannot agree more, I discovered Changeling by "accident" in 1994 thanks to a fellow chemical engineering student while I was more focused on mastering Cthulhu, especially all the oniric world - what a nightmare and a blast at the same time!- , and yeah Vampires and Werewolves are easily attractive especially after having read Anne Rice books who used to have some impact back in those days, but I'm still in love with all the
subtlety and deepness and in some way nostalgia of Changeling. I guess it's harder to do it justice in a videogame, I don't know but still changeling the Dreaming is such a keystone for me and what a beautiful art!

I'm wondering if in BL2 we would be able to diablerise any vampire considered older than us and gain like bonus stats or skill point? That would be awesome and a tradition for Tremere if a bit OP.
I loved the shake up and the now free Tremere and different houses. The fact they can now chose a sect or no sect. Different philosophies for magic are allowed to flourish, it's all pretty cool.

This makes me want to watch a playthrough of the Tremere class in Bloodlines before experiencing Bloodlines 2 to compare game experiences.
Wonder if the Tremere will have a sort of quest to infiltrate and maybe subvert the Camarilla from the inside, in the new game. They seem like the ones who would be the most inclined to do it, and need it.

Also, even the unawakened can learn that there is power in the impossible. Finding the incongruence between nature and occurrence. Harnessing this puts even the unawakened on par with true mages
Could you make such Videos for every clan after you finished the ones that will be playable in Bloodlines 2?
What if Tremere was in fact a sorcerer who found a way to pursue the function of true magic with the brute force of linear magic? Like he never truly awakened, but was still somehow able to alter time and space with sheer force of will?

Ok important note for new players. Mage werewolf and vampire are all very different games that can be played together and they scale very differently. Early werewolves are going to be strongest, vampires in the middle and then mages as the weakest. Mid game vamps and werewolves still have more raw combat prowess than your average mage, and end game vampires pull ahead of werewolves and mages get way way stronger than everyone. But at any of these points a werewolf can still ruin your day in a correct situation.

You mentioned that Gangrel and Brujah play so similarly that they don't have much point in a video game as a non-expansion, so what makes the Toreador different from a Ventrue in terms of gameplay? Obviously pen and paper wise they're very different but in the game I never found myself really seeing them differently, but I also never played them myself, wouldn't it make more sense to give the toreador spot to one of the less recognized clans like Giovanni, Assamite, Lasombra, or Ravnos?
