The Gentleman's Guide to Vampires: Clan Tremere

- In which the Gentleman Gamer provides you with the lowdown on that most persecuted yet powerful of clans; the Tremere.
How is it that the Tremere have somehow withstood centuries of stigma and hatred from all other clans? How have these masters of the arcane potentially rotted from the inside and yet maintained absolute power on the outside? - Hry
The Gentleman Gamer:
"After all, no clan has suffered as much persecution, from as many sources over history... as Clan Tremere. No clan has been trusted less... than Clan Tremere."
Salubri:
"Am I a joke to you?"

All this vampire the masquerade lore is so damn interesting. I feel myself getting invested in it lol
Good! It's an excellent setting.
It reminds me of something that J.R.R. Tolkien once said to George R.R. Martin back in the 80’s he said, “That’s nice, you should write it down...”
The Eggsecutive I agree with you vampire is my favorite game

The fundamental strength of clan Tremere, and I've always maintained this, is that unlike the ancient bloodlines predating them, they simply didn't have the burden of ego.
hehehe, thats a good point. Tremere can be haughty and arrogant but they are never so full of themselves to avoid bending the knee to a ruler. They are masters of kissing ass to the Cam and hell, any enemy that it will be effective vs.
from which movie or fairy tale are that
@@Mr11ESSE111 What do you mean?
@@____________838 this stories here
@@Mr11ESSE111 These stories are the lore behind the game “Vampire the Masquerade”, an extensive collection of pen and paper role-playing games that started in the early 90’s and eventually found its way to computer based role-playing games via “Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines” in the early 2000’s.
so if the Ventrue are the Kings that give orders the Tremere are the advisors that manipulate the King for the best of their interests
Ventrue: "I'm in charge."
Tremerer: "Do you feel in charge?"
Tremere for being an Advisor, Malkavian for seeing a future..

I like these, in a way it is nearly in character, as if speaking to a young childe.
Oh, it’s definitely in character.

"Antideluvian's name has been lost in time, he was of some long lost clan..." - Typical bloodwitch propaganda (Excellent presention of it). Tremere diablerized Saulot, who could be described as the closest thing that kindred had to a saint. After that vile deed, they started to purge of Salubri (of whom most didn't even retaliate), the only clan that could be described as "the good guys". Now, Salubri healers are nearly all gone (or in hiding) while once just and righteous warriors, "The Scourge of the Baali" are twisted shadows of themselves and serve in Sabbat (And the mystery of Mahtiel's whereabouts is still not solved). Yet, Tremere rest their laurels on the very top of Camarilla...Ah, the irony. (By the way, excellent videos man, I love watching them.If you have time in the future I hope you would do the video on "Furies" and Adonai, the Salubri of Sabbath)
the funniest thing is that Tremere couldn't handle diablerazing an Antideluvian and fell to torpor soon after he ate Saulot cause he was slowly taking over from the inside and in the end Saulot wins.
"Saulot was a saint and not a manipulative bastard who intentionally created the Baali" - Typical soulsucker propaganda
I kid, but only because Saulot's lore flip flopping between saintly Gary Stu to literally satanic Villain Stu is a glorious trainwreck
TheSalubri CZcams says you had a comment, but it seems youtube ate it.
Shortly after Saulots diablerie, Tremere fell unconscious and would soon be rapped in a cocoon-like substance. Tremere would then spend hundreds of years fighting for his soul against an antideluvian only to lose the battle in modern nights. I love Tremere's fate. Obsessed with power, only to be literally consumed by it.
@@HouseLyrander That's a neatly succinct summary! And it helps me wrap up my own conflicted feelings about the...inconsistencies regarding Saulot :)
Vtm:b always put me as a Tremere so it was nice getting a bigger picture, love this series so far.
does work, I value the self-made power of the Tremere. They exist due to their own skill, smart, and will, granted their skill was EVIL but kinda par for the course in context of the setting.

Love the Gentleman's guide, gentleman gamer. Planning on doing a Vampire masquerade: Bloodlines playthrough at some point and this information will come in extremely handy. Thank you.
Thanks for saying so! I'm glad you like them.

Such disrespect to a noble and decent clan such as Tremere. How does one speak of such lies like that of the first among equals, Tremere, being nothing more than a mere worm. The clan has been on the forefront of protecting Kindred society from the dangers that strike at us, even in the face of such slander and malice. How can one stand who is willing to spread such disgusting lies?
I see someone was made to drink of the cup one too many times. Pray tell Childe were your sins against the House and Clan so severe as to warrant further inspection ? Perhaps the Regent should be made aware...unless you part with that grimoire of course.
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
Tremere FTW.. xD I really like their unity and the fact that every other clan fears and hates them.. :D
I really enjoyed how the gargoyle and the Tzimisce boss Andrei hated me because I am a Tremere when I faced them..
Also, Bartram Tung really hated me when I caught him with his and his ghoul's deceit of trying to manipulate him.
They are the clan that are closest to each other.
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
Some long forgotten clan? What? Tremere was manipulated by Saulot into diablerising him so that his soul would reside in Tremere's body. Tremere's transformation into a gigantic white worm is a result from Saulot and Tremere's inner struggle over his body
Exactly the Antediluvian was Saulot
This is called storytelling I guess.
Saulot and the Salubri have been effectively forgotten by vampire society at large in the modern nights. Either as just a lesser clan that never did anything and eventually went extinct, or as a clan that was obsessed with demon worship who eventually gave rise to the Baali.

I've been playing the Bloodlines game and have been thinking of tackling it in tabletop... The personality quiz thing in the game told me I belong in Tremere. So, this information is helpful.

1:03 they were ironically considered one of the most reasonable and trustworthy houses back when they were still House Tremere. That all ended when everyone realized they liked to eat people.

These videos are great. I'd previously only a mild interest in Vampire: The Masquerade, but your knowledge and passion regarding the subject has given me the compulsion to learn more.
This is definitely the best information I have ever heard regarding the Nights and Clan Tremere. Liked and Subscribed.
Yay! I'm not the only one who still find VtM interesting! I love these videos by the way! I admit I always brushed the Tremere off as the secretive blood mages who were too wrapped up in themselves, but I did wonder how they managed to survive considering who the diablerized and their experiments. This has given me a who new perspective on them! Thank you for making such an informative video. I'm going to go watch your Tzimisce one, that was another clan I just never really understood.
Excellent lesson, Gent! Now you've given me the urge to dig up my old VtM rulebooks & Sourcebooks, and try to find a group to game with after all my years away from tabletop RPing!
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
Thanks Man. No longer do i have to stumble to explain the vampire clans in my own words. Not saying I won't but now its nice to have a back up plan.
Love your videos, I rarely comment, but after halfway trough my...
fourth or fifth play-trough?.. Of Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines,
and in between, growing constantly more and more interested in the
"World Of Darkness" universe, getting scraps of information here and
there whenever I need to feed my curiosity with trivialities for entertainement or whenever I grow weary of the short unsatisfying taste of video games compared to tabletop games (with a sadly short lasting real life D20 experience in the past), I have to say, your research (some I can vouch for, most I know little to none of it) seems pretty thorough, interestingly put and satisfies some of this unsatisfaction I feel towards either the lack of people available to play where I am or the lack of developers in the video game industry looking into it. Aside from the Legacy Of Kain franchise, the Anne Rice novels and so on, the World Of Darkness is a great universe, story wise and ingame, tabletop or video game wise. Your videos are excellent, good sir. A ROUND OF BLUE BLOOD (or whiskey, whatever) ALL AROUND, MY TREAT! A TOAST! To your knowledge, passion and desire to share these with us. CHEERS MATE!
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
Great video. Tremere was probably my favorite clan, at least they had my favorite origin story with their tie in with White Wolf's sister game Mage the Ascension. One of my favorite reads from the Old World of Darkness was Blood Treachery.
nice video for one of my favorite clans. One of my bucklist characters/games, is to play a tremere in an all tremere group to fully experince the clan.
The time I first bought Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on Steam was the time you started doing Vampires guides. Quite awesome, and I do wish I had some books on Vampire: The Masquerade.
What an excellent summary. I am an old school World of Darkness player. I remember playing Ars Magica from Lion Rampant when the Tremere was still a Mythical Europe wizard clan, which existed before Vampire the Masquerade was published by White Wolf.
Thank you for posting this. It is very informative for a potential new player.
Tremere is my favorite clan, it just fits me perfectly. Really good video with all the essential informations we need.

@clackclickbang Totally didn't know you had vids on those, it is hard to recall which ones we've done. The gentleman's guide to vampires is great. Loads of great details about how the tremere are hated, yet have come to be so strong. Goratrix did jack a lot of dudes up for sure.
Thank you for letting us watch ^^
nice vids! have you ever thought about making Guides to the clans in the darkages? a friend of mine is running a story in the darkages and its amazing. The clans differ a lot from the modern times (for example the ventrue were with a few exceptions all knights, the tzimisce were more bound to their lands etc)
@clackclickbang I will cover more of this in detail in my ars magica house tremere video, but their robes were dark blue for the lower ranks and as they rose higher in the ranks they got darker robes till it was charcoal black.
their motto is Voluntas vincit omnia (will conquers all),
more detail will be in my ars magica video on tremere.
It's in all the Vampire: The Masquerade books! I recommend the Transylvania Chronicles for some in-game insights into the Tremere as well.
Very good stuff, keep 'em coming!!
Great video!
Great book collection :D

That was a very insightful video. Job well done, I say~
Well I do try. My thanks to you for your kindness.
Excellent!
I'm currently playing an npc who was the former Prince of Houston's Fledgling. She's bound to an infinite library, and uses her Thaumaturgical abilities- not to really dominate other people, but uses it to stop all sorts of mystical powers and resist control of others... However, she knows little of her clan and the Camarilla, as her sire liked to keep her in the dark about it all. Loved this! Wish I could watch this in-character!
I must say I very much enjoyed your guide to Clan Tremere. My Partner and I are long time Vtm players and our favourite clan is the Tremere, they are a fantastic clan and very much steeped within the mythos of the WOD. Would love to be able to chat to you about some of your insights one day. Once again, my complements for a quality video
Thanks for saying so! Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
Thanks for the invitation, I have wondered if you have a favourite clan yourself?
Taha Brown My favourite clan changes like the wind, but is currently Ravnos.

Ahh my favorite Camarilla clan :D
and such a well made review -

My favourite clan. Interesting and well presented video. I must remember to dust off Redemption and Bloodlines and slap them into my computer. I always like playing them every few years.
Thanks for saying so!
Very informative. Awesome video =)
I'm glad to hear it!
Man, I love that you do these videos. You don’t have to and making this info accessible to a generation that doesn’t know what a book is is really doing God’s work. It’s just.... there are small errors here and there. Whether or not the choose is bound to his sire is one thing, but for certain a childe is *one step* bound to the seven regents of the clan.
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
Really helpful, thank you.
Thanks! Good video, keep up with the good work!
I love these vids but will you be doing anything on Baali?
@clackclickbang
True, I suppose there is less backstory and background in Requiem. I personally would like to hear you opinion on the themes present in each clan and how you interpret them, especially as a lot of the Masquerade clans got re-writen as bloodlines in Requiem. I'd very much enjoy hearing your opinion on these re-envisionings of the old clans. (I for example have played both a Brujah and a Lasombra in Requiem).
Clan Tremere has probably the best background history. No doubt.
wow dude thats cool! Do you know where i can read about the final night?!
Thank you and let me know what you think of the Tzimisce video!
You uploaded a 2160p video of you talking in the first day of 2012?
@Burori1 Thank you!
@ArphenMaethor Very good point, although not every Tremere diablerised someone powerful. Many of the elders got that way through diablerie (bearing in mind that Tremere was around 9th or 10th gen when he first became a vampire) and some Tremere were embraced prior to the extinction of the Salubri, meaning there's a nice spectrum of generations.
Thank you!
Best lore, best disciplines, best clan.
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
That's good to hear, thanks I get anxious about breaking stereotypes. I just created my occult scholar Tremere, who is a celebrant pedagogue, always wants to share information and idealistically seeks truth in the vampiric legends, while treading carefully on the whims of his sire and struggles with his monstrous nature. Would be a fun game, trying to befriend and teach others in my coterie as they are certain I am a bloodthieving mage who is bound to screw them over. Thanks for the video :p
Thank you for watching.
oh, do you think it is also good to look at the ars magica books that relate to house tremere. I know one gives the colors of their robes, as well as their motto plus some other fluff. I think it could be useful; of course it could have fallen out of favor by the modern times.
Thanks!
So is there any advice for playing a Tremere who ended up becoming a setite convert? I’m trying to find a way to strike a balance between the Tremere upbringing and Setite mindset when playing one of my characters
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
@TornadoCreator I could do Requiem vids too, but the problem is their clans don't have established metaplots really. It's part of the openness of the Requiem setting that clans are whatever you make of them.
Hello as a Lore master of VtM I would like to ask could it be possible for a tremere to use transmutation and blood magic to create blood armor on parts of his body(not to be confused with blood shield) like a solid armor of blood, blood gauntlets with claws etc. ... and could there exist a part of the clan that would be focused on more direct confrontation in battles in the front lines like battlemages?
If the storyteller says yes, then yes.
Though with the Tremere, they have a faction that consist of those Tremere who ended up with Vicissitude as in-clan discipline. So there's absolutely no need to create blood claws when they can just use flesh claws, bone armor just like the Tzimisce.
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
This is absolutely wrong, Tremere are a clan of peace and understanding
#TremereDidNothingWrong
Pretty sure the Order of Hermes disagrees with that.
shut up bitch the termere were not peaceful or understanding
some gangrel, salubri and even tzimice would disagree
Vlad Tepes it's a joke bruh
@herkles1 I feel the same about the Giovanni. I watched your Bucket List video actually, and we have some similar thoughts.
I thank you for this detailed summary! I role-play a Bone Shadow Werewolf, and have been perplexed by my Spirit Totem Kamduis (the Death Wolf) who is always on about the Tremere that I have been oddly paired with in our motley crew of WOD persona's. Now I know why! Of all the Mage sects, I (OutOfCharacter) relate to the Order of Hermes the least, and the fellow who plays the Tremere fits into that prideful, self important, character quite well -something he often pays a high price for!

I couldn't agree more..

btw what is the next clan do you think you will cover next?
@woodwwad Goratrix was arguably the smartest of the bunch. He came up with the ritual, defected to the Sabbat, formed his own 'House'.. All of that would have been brilliant if Saulot hadn't certainly popped up again.
What do you think of the Blood Brothers, an very odd "Clan" formed by the combining of Sabbat Tzismisce and Treme Antitribu? Or for that matter, how did they avoid tearing each other apart, let alone forming an alliance, let alone a new/combined bloodline? :?
Well i am a fan of ander and now you as well ^^ Great video, well done indeed...nice insights. I want to share something though - Tremere are likely to be the lowest gen vampires maybe except the giovanni. Clan first + they embrace from a cauldron of blood so its likely filled with the strongest avalaiable blood the clan has which may be lets say 5th gen blood therefore neonates could be 6th gen vampires. Afer all gen = power and clan is first so are neonates...
@JizzelSweet They're on the list!
@odin422 Nope, it doesn't pay well at all! Admittedly I do have a black mark on my account meaning monetisation ads are always very much delayed on my vids.
@SaudiLindsey4 Indeed. The Tremere have old roots.
@woodwwad I have added two video responses for you. Would you kindly do the same with your Assamite and Malkavian videos?
@TheArckmage How wonderful they are...
@Hellstorm87 Indeed you do.
as a gangrel in vienna, i now feel very uneasy eO

I'm curious. How many years it would generally take for a 10th generation Tremere to learn how to use Cauldron of Blood?
Greetings, Warlock! I'd be grateful to you for checking out my new RPG on Kickstarter: kck.st/35OgRBR Thank you!
Good luck with that!
Ha! I'm glad you liked it.
Of course it was!
11:21 Would this mean that what little is left of the Healer Salubri are controlling the Tremere through their Founder?
@YuriPRIMEpoland Yes indeed it was.
"even more hated than the ______" it sounds like you said Barley.
If you mean the bit at 7:29, he said “Baali”. More hated than the Baali.
I’ve got captions on and it always switches out “Baali” for “barley” whenever he says it.

@AngaMesh13 Thanks!
Yes they do.
I thought that the Antediluvian that Tremere diablerized was Salout. You mention that the name was lost to the ages or something. Am I incorrect about that?
There is! It's for Dark Ages.
Good taste.
Brilliant, can I share this?
Of course!

What I still don't quite get is the talk about generations. Is the ..say, 3rd generation stronger than the 11th because the blood is thicker, or simply because they are older. Do they gain powers through age, or does every generation have a ''fixed amount'' of power?
*****
Oh I get it, tyvm for the explanation! :)
13th gen is half as strong as 12th gen. The power is exponential so say a methuselah of 4th gen is 2^8 stronger = 64 times stronger
