SPLIT, CROATIA Food Tour! - My favorite places to eat after living in Split for 2 months!

  • DIOCLETIAN’S PALACE - g.co/kgs/g6sT7F
Within these walls lies the beautiful streets of Old Town Split where tourists and locals work, eat, and play 7 days a week. The city of Split does a wonderful job of hosting cultural events during the Spring and Summer months.
    D16 Coffee - g.co/kgs/KWEoXN
For a proper cup of specialty coffee, within the wall of the palace, this is the place to go. These folks are committed to their craft and you can always count on a perfectly pulled espresso. Also co-work friendly. My favs: americano (single shot), Magic, and Iced Caramel Latte
    GREEN MARKET - g.co/kgs/ysnmki
This sprawling outdoor market is a real treat. We were able to buy produce here every week and purchase meat and poultry from the butcher shops. I highly recommend buying souvenirs like Dalmatian Prosciutto, honey, olive oil, and other cured products from the local vendors here. CASH ONLY for most vendors.
    PEKARNA PAZAR - g.co/kgs/boQV4Y
Located along the edge of the Green Market, this bakery has the best Burek and Fresh Baked Bread, I had in the area.
Jakov Dolac Prošut - Just across from Pekarna Pazar you can find this lovely prosciutto stall in the Green Market. The Dalmatian Prošut is top notch. Feel free to request a sample of their buttery, melt in your mouth cured ham.
    KAVA2 | SPECIALTY COFFEE SHOP - g.co/kgs/WyYxmu
Located a short walk outside the walls of the palace, it is worth your time visiting this coffee shop. The staff is kind and friendly, and the coffee is outstanding. I love their rotating daily Batch Brew.
MARJAN FOREST PARK (Park Šuma Marjan) - g.co/kgs/rKhVNY
“The Lungs of the City” situated on the peninsula, west of Old Town Split. This nature park is filled with hiking trails, beach access, and hill top viewpoints.
    TERACA VIDILICA - g.co/kgs/kxB5FR
The only place to get a Birds Eye view of Split and the Adriatic while enjoying a drink or coffee. Full kitchen opens for high season. Order a Kava Šlag (shlag), espresso with whipped cream for an authentic experience.
    LUČICA - g.co/kgs/FfSLFQ
Our Uber driver on day one of arriving in Split told us Lučica (Lu-chi-tza) has the best grilled calamari, and he was absolutely right. The first time we visited we had their pasta dishes and we were blown away. During that visit I noticed a table ordered the mixed meat platter. Aside from how delicious it looked, I really took notice of how much the guests were enjoying it. Immediately I knew I had to try this platter for myself. So, on our second visit we came prepared and coupled it with white wine from the island of Korčula. *chefs kiss*
    JADRAN BEACH BAR - g.co/kgs/aesv8i
This is a great spot to have drinks or coffee, listen to music, and hangout on the lounge deck. During the summer months the staff makes it a welcoming beach lounge destination by putting ladders into the water for those who want to take a swim. If you’re just here for the scenery, it’s equally rewarding. I loved sitting to look out at the sea with ships going by and a drink in my hand.
    CASH ONLY
    Ba!ĆE (Ba!Cevapi) - g.co/kgs/BrgokP
Hailing from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This ćevapi (che-va-pi) joint is serving the best of these delicious grilled sausages. What really sets them apart is the open flame grill that infuses the bread and meat with so much flavor while preserving it’s juiciness. Ask for Ajvar (ai-var) and Kajmak (kai-mak) to top your sandwich or ćecapi plate.
    KONOBA FETIVI - g.co/kgs/kkAjHt
This family owned and operated restaurant offers many Dalmatian delicacies but the fish dishes are outstanding. The Grilled Snapper was my favorite and the staff is knowledgeable and ultra professional.
    PIZZERIA GALIJA - g.co/kgs/9GixTU
When a pizza place excels at other dishes, you know it’s a must try place!
    KOKOŠ ROTISSERIE - g.co/kgs/CdZRGZ
The name says rotisserie but their most popular item is the fried tenders. Large, juicy pieces of chicken thigh makes for the most delectable tenders. The owners of Kokoš took a trip out to Los Angeles, CA to study the art of the perfect chicken tender and they nailed it!
LEOPOLDS CRAFT BEER BAR - g.co/kgs/ZKtD2B
We loved sitting outside on the benches chatting about the epic craft beer scene in Split. CASH ONLY
    GELATERIA EMILIANA - g.co/kgs/T4Se3p
The kitchen is bustling all day making batch after batch of gelato and waffle cones. The staff is friendly and efficient, so don’t fret over the long line because it moves a good pace. CASH ONLY

As a Bosnian I'll give you one tip I learned long ago in Croatia. When it comes about the grilled fish, you must start eating it from the tail and everything after that is pure enjoyment including those crispy fins you cut off. Omg lol...that goes together with the file. So, all you have to do is to slide a fork along the tail and spine and file will break off itself together with the fins. Bit of collards mixed with potatoes and olive oil and garlic. It's really hard to tell how much of vine one can drink after that. Cheers

2 cevapi is not a sausauge it is minced meat roll, for it to be a sausague it has to be in the skin.

@@whatomorrowbrings lmao..........and for ajvar I forgot vinager you need to cook it all in a vinager water and then squise the exses liquid before you mince it and then reduce it in oil for a few hours constantly stearing..it is a whole day process so the famillies usualy do 50 to 100 liters at once for the winter and you do it in the fall causse the bell peper harvest is in the fall it is the juciest then and it keeps for years all you have to do is put a layer of oil on top of the jar before sealing it and let it cool naturaly before sealing it

Well it's not actually, we have 20+ million visits a year, on a less than 4 million people, in high season there's always a million+ visitors inside the country so our entire population grows for over 25%, and it's showing, i don't think any other country besides some micronations experoieces that, greece is close but they get about 32 million on about 12 million inhabitants, so not exactly as concetreted per domestic population.
What's weird everything works just fine, traffic, food supply, infrastructure, but it is stretched out, but works, and not a lot of accidents or crime, not much pickpockets or scams like in italy, spain or prague, although high tourists concentration, so we are mostly overlooked by petty criminals.

Split is full of drugs and junkies, well, like any other city in Cro... it's a beautiful place, yes, magnificent, but the politicians destroyed it. They are so freaking corrupted it's mind boggling. It's a very long story and you won't find it in mainstream media 😢

yup, if there is tomato in it, ajvar is no good 😉, just eggplant and red bell pepper
      Great video, love it 👌
Do you speak croatian or some other similar language? Your pronunciation of croatian words is great.
      Greetings from Split 😊

Ajvar is not a tomato and veggies spread, it's entirely false - it's red bell pepper with some eggplant or veggies, but can be just the red bell peppers, aka paprika, red paprika.

Hi Sarah! Split is an awesome place, and I think it's great for solo travelers. I believe it'll be easiest to make friends if you're staying at a hostel within or just outside of Diocletians Palace, hang out at some of the really good coffee shops, and do some sightseeing tours. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! 🩵😃

Next time: Use a fork and pull the fin bones out like with a comb.
First boneless part to eat is the tail entirely on the upper half.
Then the back top part of the filet and lastly the part around the abdominal cavity.
Suck out the fins and the bones from the very delicious meat there!
    Remove the spine.
    Eat the rest almost undisturbed.
Eat the cheekies not last, if possible, because the suck when cold.

Bosnia is same thing as Dalmatia,a Croatian region which was unfortunately separated from Croatia in 1945 when Communists separated Croatian territory into two republics, something like West and East Germany or South and North Korea, because Yugoslavia wouldn't last if Croats were united,so they had to separate Croatia into two republics.
Basically for creation of 1st Yugoslavia, they had to separate Istria and Dalmatia from Croatia, which were later in 1943 united back with Croatia and for creation of 2nd Yugoslavia they separated Bosnia and Herzegovina from Croatia in 1945!
We Bosnians are Croats, same goes for Herzegovians or Dalmatians,Herzegovina carries name after Croatian noblemans Herzegs!
    God bless!

They need to have Roman soldier reenactors of Diocletian's Palace that represent that time. It's just my opinion that it waters the history down and it gives people a false observance or view of the time period. Hollywood Romans bullcrap.

    • @dannyboy-vtc5741
      @dannyboy-vtc5741 Před 7 dny

No, that's just a dumb proposal, this is not a show for historians, but for dumb tourists who wouldn't understand non hollywood roman soldiers, the real ones could be seen in a museum by anyone wanting to learn aboutcactual history - same as this palace wasn't a vacation palace but retirement home for the first emperor that retired, but who cares that a tourist gets it wrong, they get 90% wrong, she couldn't even remember that ayvar spread is made from the red bell peppers and not tomatoes, but who cares.

This is the first time I am watching your videos and you are already my favorite food vlogger. A few things only. Ćevapi are not sausages. They do not originate from B&H and Serbia. Croatia is not Balkan. Ajvar and kajmak are not a perfect pairing. They are served either or. Your pronunciation of Croatian words is top notch.
