My favorite portrayal of their “relationship” is where the Joker actually doesn’t want to kill Batman, but actually wants to push Batman to the point where he’ll break his code and kill him. This is my favorite because it’s just so interesting to think about how the Joker considers being murdered by Batman is winning.

@@messiah1915 If youre making a cheeky poke at the Batman Who Laughs, i do agree xD I think if the 'non darkmetal universe' joker knew about the batman who laughs, you'd see a very similar scene as the one in Arkham Knight.
This is actually the very reason why i enjoyed the hulk joker fight at the end of arkham asylum. People always say that Joker wouldnt do it, but i personally think that Joker was banking on Batman giving up the antidote instead of using it on himself. This is even further played on at the end of arkham city's "I would have given you the antidote." and also likely why jokers death weighed so heavily on batman. Because it all stimmed back to the one singular moment where he didnt give joker the antidote in asylum.
Making batman kill is winning
I remember a comic where Joker tells Batman that he never wants either of them to win (aka die/give up) because then the game is over. In most Batman/Joker versions, the Joker thrives off Batman. Without Batman, he feels he is nothing. Even in The Dark Knight movie, Ledger’s Joker tells Batman, “Kill you? I don’t want to kill you! No, you complete me.” And in the animated series, Sid the Squid kills Batman by accident, which Batman uses to his advantage, and the Joker is both sad and pissed that Sid killed Batman and tries to kill Sid but Batman saves Sid. “it’s complicated” is a good description of their relationship for sure. I love their dynamic and how they are polar opposites. They are probably best hero/villain pair ever IMO

There's a comic if I remember, where Joker succeeds in killing Batman, and right after he starts living a normal life and he finds that he is not at all happy with his normal life so he ends up offing himself in the end.

In the War of Jokes and Riddles story , the Joker never laughed or smiled for a long time and The Riddler wanted to know how to make The Joker laugh again , so he decided to start a war with the Joker , and Batman is desperate to stop this war , and he had no choice but to join Riddler's side , and when Batman finds out why this war exists , he was nearly going to kill Riddler with a knife , but The Joker puts his hand in the way to prevent Batman from killing Riddler

my theory and head canon is that Joker has slight regenerative abilities and that's why he always seems to survive even though he should be killed. Like getting eaten by sharks, falling into a smoke stack, having his airship explode etc.

The best one in my oppinion is the one from Batman TAS Mad Love. I love how Batman actually tells the Joker that he had no other options than to make Harley call the Joker and that the Joker's ego wouldn't allow anybody else to be responsible for Batman's death, so he knew that the Joker would come and save him.

In my headcanon, Joker knows Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same person. . . but, he also knows that Bruce is the mask.
Actually, In the tie-in comics for DC Universe Online, it reveals that Joker did In fact believed he killed Batman.
And as you'd expect it, he doesn't feel accomplished, he doesn't feel anything, he even laments to a dead Harley Quinn that the little life he'll have now thanks to Brainiac's invasion won't be near as fun without Batman and her.

To the joker and his twisted mind the relationship they share is important, entertaining even. The idea that he can wake up in Arkham again to plan his next crazy scheme excites the joker, the fact that Batman will always be there to fight him delights the joker. He enjoys the battles much to Batman’s dismay and so on multiple occasions when other villains try to intervene and ruin the Batman he will step in purely because he wants the chaos to continue. Most of the destruction in the city is because of Batman so why would he stop Batman now? He would rather let the joke keep going, just long enough before he can deliver the final punchline.

Since you included some cutscenes from telltale’s Batman, I’d argue that you could add the time “John doe” caused the power outage and stopped bane form killing Bruce Wayne In episode 2, or the time “John doe” attacked bane when he was about to kill Batman in episode 4, or the time joker and Batman worked together to fight bane in episode 5 (vigilante route).

The episode with Owlman and Joker teaming up with Bats is the reason why I was quite fond of Brave and the Bold. Sure, most of the episodes had no actual timeline, but they didn’t need to have one, it was just a bunch of different comic book adventures in animated form, not to mention it was actually quite a good show as well.
one of the reasons I loved the show as well. They weren't going for the usual dark and gritty tone. They were just having fun.

Calling their relationship "Co-dependent" is misleading, as Batman is never shown to need the Joker the way the Joker claims he does. At best, the Joker is just one more villain in the rogues gallery to Batman.

Sorry, but I personally think that's not true. Batman has shown that he is just as obsessed with Joker as he is himself and he has also saved his life or prioritized it over the well-being or saving of others.

You know what Joker says to Batman after nuking Metropolis to break Superman? He wanted to play on easy mode. He literally views breaking Superman as easy mode compared to Batman, and he dies laughing as his heart is pulled through his chest by Supes

Beast Boy he had the worst death from the nuke, him Kid Flash and Superboy were all racing around when it went off, Kid Flash was instantly turned to ash and Superboy tried to shield Beast Boy from the blast, he survived the blast but was in such bad shape he died a minute later is a lot more agony than if Superboy didn't do anything

I'm pretty sure The Joker sees his time with Batman as nothing but a game, one he doesn't want to ever end. It always seems that every time he "tries" to kill Batman, it almost seems like he knows Batman will get out of it, except for that Frank Miller comic, The Dark Knight Returns.
As you said, he seems to know Batman better, and has an actually hilarious moment in Harley Quinn: The Animated Series, he has Batman right where he wants him, tied up and beaten with his mask off, what is the first thing Joker does? Does he try kill him? No, he demands to know what is going on with WayneTech's new electric car that he legitimately put a deposit on. I guess he had his priorities in order.

season 3-5 definitley got more kid friendly and campy like old batman was but it still retained some dark themes and scenes and it is my favorite of the animated batman versions

I would say on the Jokers perspective it’s sort of a psychotic childish frenemy relationship. The childish aspect has to do with his tendency to get jealous if Batman plays with others so to speak and ignores him for too long , along with him not being above saving Batman from someone else taking him off the Playing field.
