Badass Mel Gibson revenge flick. I always loved how gritty this movie was as well and Greg Henry is so much fun in it. This movie has a really great supporting cast IMO.

Very entertaining Gibson movie, he can play the badass really well. I was also impressed by the man in Bloodfather.

Mel Gibson's most underrated stylish and grittier action thriller, and he was awesome as the badass dangerous thief, Porter who wants the loot and revenge against his wife and partner-in-crime, Val Resnick (Gregg Henry). Also, an excellent cast including Lucy Liu as Pearl (Hubba Hubba Hubba!) and I love the silvery blue color filter long before it became very common with recent films! I have the theatrical cut on DVD that Paramount desperately needs to put on Blu-ray and 4K and not just the "Straight Up" cut!

Didn't Jason Statham play this same character in a movie with JLo from a few years ago...or was that a different series?

The Key to Making the Audience Root For The Bad Guy. Is to Make Sure The Bad Guy Only Robs and Kills Other Bad Guys and Criminals.Make Sure the Bad Guy Doesn't Kill or Harm Innocent People/Civilians.

Personally i like both cuts of the film, but if i would have to pick, i'd say director's cut is much better version. Different tones in theatrical cut didn't really mix that well, and i didn't like how they played it safe with Porter's character. Btw Matt, you can find a deleted scene from workprint of the film on my channel which is not in either of the two official cuts of the film, it's the scene where Porter rips a guy's eye out in elevator.

To be honest bro I could never get into this film the acting isn't bad just the humor didn't get me also didn't care for Dean Martin's music in the film as well this is coming from a guy who's never seen the director's cut but really have no interest to but to me I felt Mel did a munch better job playing a character like this in ''Get The Gringo'' which I felt handled bits of the humor better plus Mel felt more like a baddass in that film more then here IMHO.
Awesome job on the review bro

I very much like this one. I love the shootout near the end, at the alley, before he gets knocked out

My biggest problem with this film is that it's kind of a lie. The marketing and the whole "get ready to root for the bad guy" thing made it seem like Mel Gibson's character was gonna be a legitimately bad dude. Sure, he's a criminal, but the movie actively goes out of it's way to humanize him and establish him as being far better than the people he's up against. It's the same old hollywood shtick when this could've been something more subversive and interesting. And the ending to this movie is fucking ridiculous if you ask me. The ending of the alternate cut just has him gunning down a bunch of motherfuckers to get the money. THAT'S what the bad guy would've done. Not run off to Canada with his girlfriend and her dog. My ideal version of this story would be a dark noir film but following a bad guy instead of a cop/private investigator.
That's just my opinion though. If someone likes the theatrical mire cut then it's really fine. Different strokes for different folks.
