Best Via Ferrata in the Dolomites? Climbing Possnecker

- This route throws you straight into a 700-meter vertical climb, with terrifying drops on each side.
About 2 months ago we went to climb Piz Selva, a 2,941m mountain belonging to the Sella group, an iconic giant of the Dolomites.
We started our hike from Passo Sella, and within minutes got to the start of our climb.
Our chosen route was via Ferrata Possnecker (also called Ferrata delle Mesules), one of the oldest Via Ferratas in the Dolomites.
Ferrata Possnecker is no joke, it's an exposed climb through many tight chimneys, hundreds of meters off the ground.
It's a popular via Ferrata, and this popularity adds to it's difficulty, since a big portion of the rock is polished and hard to grip.
Once we got to the top of Piz Selva we were treated with the desolate and dramatic landscape signature of the Dolomites.
The grey mountains from the top of the Sella Massiff felt like they were merging with the stormy clouds above, creating a landscape that is hard not to love, making every meter of vertical gain to see this view worthwhile.
In my opinion, Possnecker is one of the best Via Ferratas in the Dolomites.

Yeww! Epic day out. One of the most beautiful routes I've seen you do!
Thanks Lach! I reckon next year we'll be based somewhere around there for 6 weeks if we can, it's too good.
Hi guys, awesome video again!
We got caught out on Tofana Di Mezzo, in a huuuuge thunderstorm, this after VF punta anna onto VF Gianna Aglio,
Very very sketchy, not a fun experience, but makes us stronger 🤣🤣🤣
At one point my head was buzzing from static! Crazy times! 🤣
Oh my GOD!!! That is Viv's worst nightmare! I'm happy you got down alright...
We were actually meant to do Punta Anna the following day, but do to the weather conditions we did another Ferrata that was shorter (video out in 2 weeks). Thanks for watching!
@@TraintoSummit Viv may have killed you if survived it haha.
There were 3 other guys doing same route, we met at car park and were laughing at the whole thing 🤣
VF are so good there, just the weather is one extreme or the other
I couldn't agree more both on the Viv comment and the unpredictable weather in the Dolomites! 😂@@connor9209

Thank you for watching!
I thought correct VF technique was to have your carabiners in opposite directions to reduce risk. Maybe I was wrong.
