SOY YA LATER HEADER... HARVEST TIME HEADACHE

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, we have quite the predicament. A local farmer was moving equipment from one field to another and had the large "header" of their combine on a special trailer used for such transport. This trailer has a double pivot or is what some call a wagon-style trailer. While going down a steep, narrow, gravel hill, the header and trailer rolled over. Nobody was injured, but this isn't going to be an easy task. The header is a specialized piece of equipment that isn't designed to be handled the way we are going to have to handle it. It is very strong and heavy on the bottom side, which is on the ground. This is the part that attaches to the combine. The rest is mostly plastic and rubber with some gears and drives to cut and harvest the crop, which, in this case, is soybeans. Ethan and I take our trusted flagship Rotator unit #11, a Peterbilt 389X with a Miller Industries Century 1150R rotator heavy towing and recovery unit, to roll the header and trailer and place the header back on the trailer. This job presents many challenges, from the steep, narrow, gravel road, to the odd, difficult to handle header, to the unique wagon style trailer that the header must be set back on. We definitely have to work the angles on this job from lifting and multiple redirects to try to control everything. This is going to be a challenge.... Watch to see we handle this unique situation!!!
Also, this video is being released two years after losing my dad and mentor. He left this Earth on November 9, 2021. We still miss him dearly, but we are moving forward and growing, as he would want us to do. I smile as I write this knowing that he would have loved a challenging job like this.
We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe...and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

As a farmer when I saw this I was like GOOD LUCK 😂😂
Ron , people don’t understand that you want to do the job without anymore damage from you , sometimes it looks simple but the hard thing is to be gentle even pulling up a totally wrecked vehicle! Your the best ! Always enjoy your videos!👍🏻👍🏻
Fun fact that brand of header offers an option to have a built in trailer instead of the separate trailer like you have there now I see why they do that.
Well a couple of things good about this job was no traffic or power lines. Great job and Have a great Veterans Day weekend God Bless
What a wonderful tribute to your Dad! Bet he's sitting on the edge of a cloud smiling down at you and the family.
Ron u and Ethan did Awesome!! Reminded me of a Dallas Cliff hanger from the 80's!!!lol be safe and God bless you all!! Ms T Ellis Ne.
My advice would be to install a drainage pipe, directing the rainwater underweight the road. Some property maintenance. - Good show! :p
My first thoughts were to reattach the trailer to the header, chain it down and roll as per usual. Once the trailer flipped that thing was just in the way.
Wow , well done , a heavy super delicate piece of intricate machinery saved.
Couple things, seems to me the trailer is a terrible design. It might be wise to counter weight the right side of the trailer with a 1000 lbs of dead weight to help balance the weight distribution.
As a carpenter I always had at least 2 2x4x10 in my truck at all times no matter what. They saved me in many different ways.
Ron ,I was so worried the blades would be bent by unusual pressures. If you carried 2-4 2x6x16s in your long bed storage area you could have quickly made a 16' angle to better support and spread the force on those teeth.
It all worked out amazingly but the farmer said the tolerance was 5 degrees, to me the bent appeared to double that.
Ron ,I have such respect for your skill and effort and conscientious service.
Once again ,Ron Pratt saves a farmer 10s thousands of dollars.
You sure picked the right truck for that job. The versatility was sure needed on the job.
The local spiders were impressed with the giant web strands going all over.
A little passive father and son head butting going on there.😂
Bouncing ideas off each other is how you get it done. That's a tough lift with lots of things working against you. Love your videos !
A very awkward, ungainly balanced, off-level implement with no good way to pick it up. It's amazing that you were able to do this lift as well as you did without more damage. Plan A was too difficult, but there are many, many ways to 10. Stay safe.
Good job there Ron. Looked a technical job. Multiple winch lines. Good video
Hey R. Its seems somehow no matter how careful a person try to be accidents will happen. I know I have had a few. Life, mistakes, 🚗, bills, relationship. 🤬 Happens. I guess if accidents didn't happen we wouldn't be enjoying your videos. Sir. You and the staff B Safe 🚒💨💨💨💨
Ron; I have been watching your channel long enough I can say I watched Ethan grow up from a grade school boy to a qualified tow operator.....
“Now comes a hard part …me backin the trailer in straight” 😂😂😂
Excellent job. Ethan is thinking ahead about the task at hand. It is great watching him grow into the job and learn from Dad. That was a tough one. STAY SAFE OUT THERE
You would think with big awkward balanced heavy peices of equipment they would put lifting eyes on it to make it so you don't run the risk of damaging it if something like this happens. Great job getten er done with no additional damage minus the valve stem.
Job well done, Ron. Reverence to the memory of your Dad.❤❤❤❤❤
That was FINESSE...... Little steps was the key. Nice Work Mr. Pratt....
God Bless You and Your Family and a Happy Turkey Day to You All....
I'm only 8 minutes in, but this is definitely a challenge. The only strong structural element is along the backside of the frame (where it attaches to the combine), but those are completely in the wrong position. Everything else is pretty lightweight and is designed to flex and conform to the ground.
I dig Mr Ron’s attitude and how he treats his customers. Nice job sir.
Amazing recovery with this challenging equipment!
That was what I call a lot of Geometry & knowing where to strap.. GOD Bless.. Be careful, Stay Safe. Be Good..
Hi Ron, thanks for making clean content
“Headache” is an understatement! There seemed to be no real structure to the header. Good job, well done. 🇨🇦
I used to build that style of draper header for a different manufacturer.
The cutter bar is pretty tough, the other strength point is the back beam, which is usually covered with hydraulics and such.
In the ones I built, there was a number tie down points on the cutter bar support.
An interresting job.
These honeybees are known to be very fragile, they do a great job but we had to go back to macdon because the honeybees would fall apart if you laid even just a finger on them
You guys did awesome job.
Nice job. I was talking to you at the beginning of the video to pull the trailer out from the load and lay it flat then back the trailer back under it.
I use to haul wide load trusses. When we had a real heavy load it would take 2-3 forklifts to load on the trailer, that’s what we had to do.
Love watching your channel. You go into detail training your sons in a great calm way. God bless and have a great day! 🙏
Excellent work on a difficult, off balance load !!
Those Honey Bee's aren't meant to lie down for a nap until after harvest......Glad you cleared the trailer out of your way. . Good use of Angle Iron. Plan B would have been to remove the teeth in conflict with the recovery. Nice job all around.
Calm cool and lots of prayers.. you did a great job.. you care 😊🙏
I don’t t know if this goes with everybody. I get a real kick out of your thumbnails. Cracks me up . Plus it’s good clean humor. Can’t get better than that.
Ron a great guy doing great job
Thank God That No One Was Hurt When The Header
That was a pretty technical lift I have to say Good work.
Honestly that was one of the most interesting lifts I’ve seen.
Obviously lifting trailers is a huge feat of skill in itself, but when there is so few options like there were in this situation - to do this with basically no additional damage to the equipment, it really shows the technical ability that, honestly everyone at Midwest has.
A draper head is designed to be flexible. There is not a lot of steel in the framework. That was a great job to get the thing on the trailer in a condition they could do a little bit of hammer work and have it cutting beans.
Ron,
I remember the times you drove backwards to your (prey.)
You are the best at going backward.
Well that was a tricky one. Very interesting to see all the different re-directs you had to use to "thread the needle". Glad it all went without any major mishaps (aside from the pratt-fall, which i'll admit i do love.. i don't want u injured but it does add some comedy value sometimes lol. Ethan may have to start taking over on the falling down side, he has a lot of catching up to do on that front). Thoughts and well wishes to you and your family on the anniversary, where the heck did 2 years go?
Don't think I've ever seen you use so many winches at once. Nice job.
Ron, that flimsy trailer and the washed out road were a fatal combo! Nice save!
always inyeresting
I watching your videos and I have my bells on your videos and I'm subscriber to your videos and 👍 🙏
A very difficult job that you made look easy. Nice to see folks that are willing to change their approach when obstacles appear.
The versatility of the Tator, with so many hook points, lines, and ability to have multiple lines out at once, is a miracle of modern mechanical wizardry.
Loving the retro edit in this video. 😂 great work as per usual. Also, the tator is looking really good now. Best customers are the ones that can actually help you out, instead of hindering.
Challenges like this are my favorite!
Great recovery Ron and Ethan always with professional thoughts and safety
Very Interesting!
Unique, one of a kind lifetime recovery for Widwest recovery 😬
Wonderful job !!!!
Perfect job for a rotator !! But you managed to accomplish it perfectly without one. Nice patient, safe operation.
My mistake....you did have a rotator for the job. Didn't notice it rotating during the lifts.
At least you didn't have to worry about power lines and traffic
Love the toys in the truck!
To quote the Doc, "Where we're going, we don't need...roads."
Awesome job to Ron and the customers
As usual, an awesome job😊
Ron, a sickle bar can flex more than what you did to it without damage.
An interesting one, well done👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕🙏🇬🇧
Hello Mr. Ron, indeed this video is completely unusual since I have never seen him put his flagship crane (11) into a gap due to its weight. 😮
👍Awesome👍
That was really beautiful
Once you get that 🚨 ☎️ 📞 you just never know but somehow you figure a safe way of solving the problem. Big or small. Safe Travels 🚨
Hey Mr. Pratt. Thanks for the content, it's very informative. Thank you for your service to the community.
It is great to see, hear Ethan putting in lots of inputs, and seeing what is happening. Making lots of suggestions. Good job fellers
That was some serious finessing.
Awesome job as alwaya Ron!! Im So sorry for your loss!! Im sure Dad Is really proudof you.
Almost an entire hour of watching this great video. I loved every minute.
Enjoyed the video.
Nice work on these one very smooth 👍👍👍👍👍😊
Enjoyed watching the video Ron😊
Another great video Ron! 👍
Wow that was interesting. Good job.
Nice job Ron .
It was a tedious job, but all went well. Great Jon Ron & Ethan. God bless
This has to be the quietest video you have done Ron. No traffic whizzing by making noise and no wind.
Stay safe Ron and crew. Thank you for what you do.
Don't forget his arch enemy 😊
Done in daylight and no rain, lightning or soggy ground.
5:00 in the morning here in California I see Ron Pratt posted a video I'm definitely watching
out in the middle of the woods "Those Pratt boys are at it again, hope Boss Hogg don't find them" :P
The best of both worlds. Farming and wreckering. Good thing is wasn't a 45' head. You would have had to deflect your lines off of the tree branches. Have a good day.
Professional every step on the recovery and no damage done on your part ..those two farmers have to be thankfull you set it back on the trailer with perfection
Ron I really enjoyed today's video. My father in law used to have a track like that to the back paddocks and every time we moved a piece of machinery it was an adventure.
I think I would have been crying like Sponge Bob.....Good job guys
Every day is a school day with you Ron I’m just glad your the teacher.
Danger never takes a day off Ron .
Things that make Ron go hum!!
The wierd jobs you get are awsome
That one took quite a few of your skills to set up right on the trailer! Good job Ron and Ethan!
Have a great weekend
This guy is a role model ❤
Another award winning recovery! Not an easy one and no one got hurt. Stay safe.
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
I admire your God given sills. I coud never figure this stuff (Not mechanically inclined)out.
Great video, farmers have bad days too!!!! 😮😅
It’s impressive to see you try different approaches to the problem in a safe way until you find one that actually works.
Hello Ron awesome job as always and professional at the same time too and everyone keep the brother in your prayers cause this year or two years ago is when he lost his dad and he's most likely having a very tough time at the moment with it all too keep up the professionalism of the job too and as always have a great day now
Great job. That was even stressing me out and I tried, and I did not do anything. I am glad you did not get hurt after you fall.
That was an interesting puzzle
This was a tricky one Ron. Very challenging as I saw how strep the hill was as you were leaving tgar was a steep hill. At least nothing got damaged anymore that when it fell off & no one got hired. Valve stims are cheap enough at a tire store. Good job Ron &; Ethan for a job well done & great communication.
The good part of this is that the job is being done by the best recovery team i have every seen. Great job.
That road is better than some I took semis on. One we had to use to dispose of oil based mud would have the outside of your steers hanging off 1&1/2 inches. Some areas are made “JUST” to get the equipment in.
