  • Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! I hope my viewers are enjoying the new 4K videos!!! Today, I take our flagship Peterbilt 389-X, Miller Industries, Century 1150R heavy rotator towing and recovery unit #11, Ethan takes dad's Western Star with a Vulcan V70 Heavy towing and recovery unit and Gavon brings our traffic control truck along with extra lengths of wire rope (cable), tools, and other things we may need for today's long, tiring job. We have to take this one is stages. As I've heard it said, "I know I'm going to have to eat this elephant...one bite at a time". The ultimate goal is to get this burnt John Deere Combine out of the field and loaded onto an RGN trailer for transport. This video is part 1, getting the combine out of the field. How many more videos? I don't know yet. This was a 16 hour day with over 4 hours of video footage to edit. Next week will be towing the combine down the highway to a solid surfaced open area for loading. I might get the loading into next week's video, but I just don't know yet. Our biggest hurdle on this job was getting the combine out of the field before the rain moved in. The ground was already too soft to get our big trucks in. So, how do we get it out of the field? Watch and find out!!! I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

    Ron, you might want to add onboard air to your Dodge pickup, this would be useful for air tools, as well as inflating tires, such as in this situation. There are a number of types available, but I would recommend a belt driven pump, such as used on tire service trucks.

    • @larrykriete7035
      @larrykriete7035 Před rokem +3

      In this situation the tire was burned, it can't hold air.

    • @legohead6
      @legohead6 Před rokem

      The rotator has all the onboard air one could need. I imagine there was a reason they didn't try to air up the tire, or they did try off camera and found why it was flat.

    • @Farm_fab
      @Farm_fab Před rokem

      @@legohead6 Ron doesn't need a heavy vehicle to provide air. The Dodge would be a better option as it can go more places the rotator can't, and with less surface area damage.

    • @Farm_fab
      @Farm_fab Před rokem +1

      @@larrykriete7035not true. At 4:15, the video shows that the tire has gone flat. Having air in it would have made handling it easier. There's no burn marks on the tire, and the burn marks on the frame doesn't quite reach the tire.

    John Dear 9770 STS with single front wheels in good working condition was worth $75k-125k. That is a hit for the farmer. Probably had insurance but you can’t put a price on loss of use. The combine had set in the field for a few weeks, probably waiting for insurance adjuster to make a determination. Farmer had already worked the ground around the fire. Extremely soft ground, easy to get stuck. Good job.

    Monday afternoon as we were traveling on I-44 going east between Phillipsburg and Lebanon in Missouri we noticed many lights flashing. As we got closer over in the west bound lane close to the shoulder many responders there. The large wrecker had a hold of the semi tractor and the people were looking at the box trailer, the whole front end was ripped open and torn apart from the trailer. The material looked like thick foam boards or something similar. Didn't look like anything caught fire, which was a good thing. Not sure if his fifth wheel came undone or what. I couldn't see the name on the side of the semi. As we came back there were more people there, trying to figure out what their next step would be. They would probably have to unload most of it. The break in the trailer went just past the dolly's. It looked as though someone used a can opener to open the box trailer. I never heard anything on the news about it. A few weeks before that, just before Philipsburg another truck had run off the road and went through a state highway sign tearing it apart. Nothing on the news about it either.

    Well I hope that you know that you are on that drivers phone list now for the next time he gets called to pickup a piece of equipment. You’ll be his first & only call.
    Thank you for the video.
    Thank you Sir, btw I’m glad that you have an angel in your pocket.

    4:24 Good questions. If you can’t take the time to answer his questions in the field, would you please make a note of the questions and do a teaching session at a later time so you can teach him the why and he can learn? You can even ask him how he would handle it as a pop quiz after the training session. ❤❤❤

    These modern harvesters are amazing machines, doing in one day what it took weeks to do manually. Man has come a long way in mechanical progress. Makes you wonder what tomorrow will bring?

    I hope that they are able to get that John Deere "Cadillac" repaired and ready for harvest for this fall. A machine like this would cost 6 figures, and it represents a major investment in their agriculture.

    I'm surprised that the feeder house could take that much side pull. If there ever were a "Mission Impossible" this was it.

    Pulling that combine out of the field is about as exciting job I had during a college summer job. Watching paint dry on these really large highway signs for our NC roads. All that is done now by prisoners. Back in the 70s those signs were made by companies. I worked for Modern Metal Products. I don't think the company exist anymore. It probably a division of something else now.

    Hey there Ron! Love your videos and I’ve been a faithful subscriber for a looong time. I notice you keep your communications up to date for you and your employees….please do the same for your viewers and BUY WIND PROTECTION for your GoPro and other cameras! (or update if you ‘are’ using external wind protection). Raising your audio volume in editing is NOT eliminating the wind noise. Stay safe and God bless! ~Jim~

    Looks like that field was tilled with a moldboard plow after harvest,. that's why the ground is extra soft. I can't imagine why that farmer would've done that knowing that the combine needed to come out.

    Rotator in the tutorial fields . Looks like a bad episode of green mud acres. Was it corn and made popcorn 🍿 looks like it sat all alone in the field to rust up. Time to plant another crop

    You really need a big military tow truck that's designed for offroad use. It'd really come in handy in situations like this. Either that or what the city of Fort Worth has which is a John Deere skid steer (brand doesn't matter) that has a big blade with spikes on the bottom to act as an anchor and then it has a big winch and pulley that's on a ram above it. I saw it when they used it to pull cars out of the river on Depths of History's channel. Then again, just a big wide wheel logging skidder would probably work, with those 8 giant 3-4 feet wide tires that are made for floatation.
    To me job #1 is get it out of the field and at least onto the access road before it starts raining.. Doing that before the driver gets there is a good use of time when worrying about the weather so it doesn't end up sunk deep in mud. Loading it on the trailer is a non-issue until you can get it out of the field.. First step in that I would've taken a set of chains and binders on each side and ran them out to that axle or onto the unit itself and then back to the main frame and used the binders to shorten it up and left that thing up to get it out of the ground, disconnecting the lines from the rams if it didn't want to budge. Those square cutouts in the top of the machine might've worked too but I don't know if I'd trust them after they've been that hot, they might've been annealed and lost all their strength... the axle is thick enough that it should still hold even after getting hot.
    I believe that if you would've unhooked the rear steer once you were trying to turn it around, it would've allowed it to come around much quicker with less side tension on the whole thing.

    Another great job fellas! Did you ever find out what caused the fire?? 🥺🤔🤔🥺🤔Oh by the way I just received my Midwest towing and recovery tee shirt the other day. I’m wearing it proudly as I continue to recover from a near fatal stroke. The lord above said nope not my time yet. I still have a purpose on this earth! As a tow and recovery operator myself from upstate New York I’ve recovered many farm tractors that were stuck in the mud and cow manure. 💩 Yeah that was a dirty job!! 🤣🤣
