  • Welcome back, today we are discussing if it's the right time to buy the Meta Quest 3. The conversation goes much deeper like, is VR right for you, how does VR compare to tradition gaming, are there better headset choices besides the Quest 3, and what about the Quest 3 VS PSVR2 or how is the Quest 3 for PCVR. The biggest questions for most are, what is the cheapest VR headset, is vr worth it, how does the Quest 3 compare to other headsets and should you wait for the Meta Quest 3s

As a non gamer granny, my son got me into VR, he’s always been interested in it. I’m so happy that he did. I’m currently playing Red Matter 2, a fantastic game, still having problems moving as I’m getting used to more precision on the controllers, but that will improve with practice. That’s just one aspect, I love the meditation apps as well as beat sabre and mini golf. I haven’t tried any of the social worlds yet, maybe in the future. And as my grandkids have a headset, we can now discuss games, it’s brought us closer together, especially as they live in Australia and I’m in Canada. And your little one is a treasure, love the pup as well.

VR will go mainstream as hardware improves and software continues to be more compelling. People struggled with eye strain when TV was invented. They typed one word a minute when everyone started using computers for AOL. People experienced dizziness when 3D first person shooters came out. VR games and other experiences are getting more innovation. It's not just the immersion factor. Aiming weapons and tools with your hands is more faster and accurate than a thumbstick or mouse. Using melee weapons with your arms is more engaging. Looking around with your head is better than moving a camera with a gamepad. Being able to see other players body language is awesome. And its easier to see small things like inventory icons and hidden items with a lifelike scale display.

I think it will go mainstream by the earlier 2030's. Once Headsets transition into thick-glasses(With no top middle strap for weight distribution), are noticeably lighter, have higher resolution, use wireless connectivity to consoles for a lot more power etc. Basically eliminating those pesky friction points or barriers that prevent most people from giving it a chance.
As of now, headsets like Q3 are still headsets, are kind of heavy, plus the tablet visuals won't cut the mustard for most, and the resolution, as awesome as pancake clarity is, with just over 2K per eye is still isn't comparable to 4K resolution on a TV. I think by Quest 5(Oct 2029), Meta will have found true success, and Nintendo will probably jump on board with VR/MR as a side accessory for Switch 3, and Sony may just in fact jump back in to get a piece of that pie, with PS6

Since I picked up a Q3 in February, you've been one of my favorite guides into the world of VR. As a long time gamer, I'd been wanting to get into VR for a while but couldn't justify the price of a new PC at the time. Once I finally upgraded to a PC that could run PCVR (not great, but enough to run No Man's Sky), I heard about Quest 3. It would fulfil my PCVR needs AND run stand alone. This means I can play stuff like Alyx and NMS at home and bring the Q3 to work so I can relax on break.
I was thinking about picking up a second headset when the rumors of Q3s started getting more common, but no specs were out yet. Then the Q2 price dropped and I decided that rather that wait for 3s, I'd grab a Q2 and wait to see what the specs for 3s were. Now that we have better info on 3s, I'm leaning towards just getting another Q3. I won't bother with another 512g, for a spare/secondary the 128n should be fine.
Then I'll be all set for a little local play with friends, or watching shows with my GF.

Great video, I like the humility w.r.t. not everyone enjoying VR past the honey moon. Also, I think a small mention of the Pico 4S could have been warranted, as in the "cheaper than Q3" category, especially for wireless PCVR, it may be quite good (4S will be better than 4, it's more like 4.5). They got a certification recently, so it may be officially announced in a couple months or so.

I found that I really liked the games, but being tethered to the console meant being tucked away in the basement away from everybody and I didn't play it as often as I wanted. Now with the Quest 3, being able to play it anywhere is a game changer. I'm having an absolute blast with it and play it most days.

I just got the V77 upgrade last night and now I can pin multiple screens and windows where I want them. I have now relegated my Quest 2 as my fitness and local social headset for when my gf/friends are over. I was open to the Crystal Light but it just seems way too bulky and apparently, my RTX 3080 in my PC isn't even powerful enough to run it.

I also played a lot of the standalone games for a while but never really made me stick with standalone and even with the current announcement, nothing really made me appreciate standalone compared to PCVR sim gaming. For a much lesser cost, since it was on sale in my country, I upgraded to a Pico 4. And I am so happy with my purchase, it was so cheap as a new Quest 2 but have better resolution and pancake lenses and since i never cared about mobile games. I'm with you on that one. After being so accustomed to Q3, going back to the PSVR2's Fresnel lenses can be pretty rough, topped with the high persistence/Motion blur OLED display, being tethered to a cable, headset discomfort due to the lack of padding around the nose area, Mura, and those Ring'd controllers can even rub against the side of your hands which can be annoying. I'll miss those deep blacks & rich/vibrant colours though! :P
If Sony ever did a PSVR2 revision, I'll be there day one. But based on now, Q3 + PC(4090, and then 5090 towards the end of the year) is the ultimately way to fly for VR.

I've got a Switch, PS5, Quest 3 & PSVR2(boxed up) as far as modern goes gaming goes, but eh. I wish Meta would just allow wireless connectivity to XBOX Series X already. At night its completely dark so not having a nose piece works great but even during the day I can look down and slightly see my legs but once I start a game I don't even notice the missing nose piece. I adjust the aftermarket head strap just to were it touches my cheeks so there is no face pressure, it also eliminated my big nose from being uncomfortable from the nose piece pressure. I play sit down games so this works but physical games this probably would not work as well. I don't have enough room for mini-golf, ping pong type games so no moving around much, so I turned off the warning grids which were irritating. I stream from my pc so no cable. The quality of what I see is just OK, I would like to have a higher resolution, better blacks, and less jaggies in any future headset.

Ya, hopefully it happens. It would be such a shame for both titles to be left for dead on PSVR1. Since the resolution is just too low, the screen door effect is awful and the entire set up is just an octopus of cables and adapters. You'd think these two games would of been ported over and optimized RIGHT at launch for PSVR2. Huge missed opportunity.
Ocean Descent should of been a free pack-in, with 2000x2040 per eye, 110d FOV, with deeper OLED blacks(PSVR1's are surprisingly lighter, even though it's an OLED display), head haptics, improved visuals, and maybe 70fps instead of 60fps if possible.

@@Gamingwithmatteo311, I agree with @dreamer5234 on this one. For my money, there are ways in which my Pico 4 is still much better than even the Quest 3, and it beats the hell out of the Quest 2 in almost every way, starting with those lenses.
Don't get me wrong, I genuinely enjoy using my Quest 3... when I get the chance, because, real life. But the binocular overlap of the Pico 4 is substantially better than even the Quest 3, and the Pico 4's balance and weight, despite actually being a little heavier than the Quest 3 in its natural state, is hands-down better, particularly once I got hold of a better-fitting (for me) facial interface and, again in my case, added AMVR's overpriced, but good "halo" addition. I know some people were unimpressed with the brightness, but it's never bothered me--in fact, I have it turned down a bit from full. And for my money, the Pico 4's balance makes using it for exercise much more enjoyable for me than what I experience with using the Quest 3.
Oh, and it's still comparable to the Quest 3 when it comes to using it for PCVR play.
As to its not being available in the US, I got my Pico 4, new, from a trustworthy seller in Japan through eBay. It took a week or so before they sent it off, as they said upfront that it would, but once they did send it, it arrived so quickly that I was genuinely shocked.
Recently heard that the Pico 4S has been certified by South Korea, so its seems to be official--and I'll be one of the first in line to get hold of it.

That's a good point, VR won't replace flat screen gaming just like video games can't replace paper RPGs. I struggled with this for a while. I wanted to swear off flat screen, but there is just too much value that doesn't work in VR. That chill experience.
If my Q2 stopped working today I would probably go out and get a Q3. I feel like a lot of resources were wasted on AR, but no point in going backwards. If Q3s doesn't have pancake lenses, it will be a waste at any price.

I'm lucky enough to have psvr2 and quest 3. The pancake lenses of the quest 3 are amazing, no having to shift the headset around constantly to find the sweet spot, but the psvr2 while the mura can affect some ppl, just feels like you're in the game more. Kind of hard to explain but it just feels bigger. If you have to make a choice tho I'd say quest 3 is a no brainer, as it has amazing stand alone games along with tons of other functions, plus obviously basically seamless pcvr compatible if you have a good enough pc for vr.

    Great video.
I've had a Valve Index for the last couple of years. My main complaints are:
    1. The vast majority of games are not that good. Even the ones that get high ratings are almost always meh, especially compared to traditional flat screen games. So once I got past the initial phase of the VR experience being novel and amazing, I started shifting back to flat screen gaming, since the games there are just way better. In fact, one of the only games I still play in VR is Beat Saber, which is arguably more of a workout app than a game (but Beat Saber is awesome). On that note, to be fair, there are also some other good workout options in VR.
    2. The Valve Index in particular is not that good for watching TV / movies. The number one reason for this is the glare. The Index has an absolutely terrible glare problem, where as soon as the scene you're looking at is even slightly dark, tons of glare becomes apparent, which is very distracting and causes a huge loss of image contrast. I quickly just went back to watching media on a regular TV (or even my phone), primarily because of the glare problem. But from what I gather, this problem does not exist (or at least is far less apparent) with the Quest. So the Quest might be a really great option for watching TV / movies in particular, especially while travelling.
Ultimately, my experience with VR has been that it plateaued a few years ago and will not get significantly better in the foreseeable future. And the state that it's in now is quite meh once you get past the initial novelty.

There's also quite a few single player vr games (half life alyx), flat screen games with vr support (no man sky), vr ports (skyrim vr), and mods (UEVR/cyber punk 2077 vr mod).

I just want to figure out what the best option is for long sessions of VRChat, as I used to enjoy it a ton, but then my mother monopolized the headset for her piracy, meaning I can't update the headset without getting in her way, so I'd like to buy my own to get time in a semi-physical manner with my partner again.. we're seperated by an ocean, and I remember the quest 2 had memory issues a lot with VRChat, so I'm debating if I want to commit to $400+ just for that, or try to find another quest 2.
I'll try to wait until September, but. I'm antsy, as I really, *really* miss just watching movies with him or wandering new worlds together, or just even existing next to each other, y'know? I miss messing with the cooking worlds, drink mixing worlds, arcade worlds, avatar worlds.. and the pc just doesn't give that same feeling of being *next to him* like the other stuff does.

Yes, VR is not for everyone and most VR headsets are expensive, some more than others. Plus many of the VR headsets require a very good computer and graphics cards to enjoy the VR world. Also the games and applications will cost a certain amount of money besides just the VR headset costs.
It depends on what computer activities you do, social, gaming, work, etc. VR can be used for each of these. Many VR headsets have allot of features and quality differences. Do you need wireless operations, eye tracking, good pass through capabilities, and high resolutions? How comfortable will the VR headset be if worn for long periods of time?
I have been using several VR headsets since the first Oculus Rift came out and always been a PC system user. I do mainly gaming with the headsets and enjoy the immersion we get with VR.
There are many you tube videos on the various VR headsets out now or soon to be released, so watch them and see if any of them fit your bill to using VR, and compare pricings.
    Take care.

I love my Sennheiser headset for audio quality and comfort, but it doesn't seem to be suitable for standalone VR. Options that remain are in-ear or off-ear. I am not a big fan of in-ear, due to comfort issues I had with all in-ear headphones I tried, so off-ear headphones would be my preferred choice. So I am trying to find info about VR headsets with off-ear headphones and the only other alternative to Valve Index seems to be Pimax Crystal Light with DMAS headphones. Meta have already proven eye tracking & updates to pass-through while maintaining higher FOV so together we could have a strong competitor to the high-end available around the corner. All that's needed is a conversation with Qualcomm and display manufacturers like LG. With the release of Snapdragon X Elite it appears as though there's likelihood for a better processor on the immediate horizon, but Meta are very quite (likely so as not to cannibalise Quest 3 sales).
I guess we'll wait and see.

It may sound like a Quest 3 promotional video. Well, technically, it is. However, that's because the Quest 3 really is the best value there is. Resolution is better than the Index. FOV is not horribly narrower. Unlike the Index, the Quest 3 is constantly updated. The Quest 3 is a whole environment when you use it. I mothballed my Index after picking up a Quest 3. It's just better. While lighthouse tracking is better in theory, the Quest 3 tracking has not let me down. I had more problems with IR reflections off patio doors with Index than I have with the Quest.
It's possible to be conflicted by hating Zuckerberg and Facebook yet still love the Quest 3. I'm glad such deep pockets are behind the Quest 3 and he is so jazzed about VR.

One you get more feedback and the psvr2, it has the first to has feed back on the head set. The meta is good if you want one tv and use the meta in a room with no TV they say you should use it outside bc it might damage it. It is good if you have a lot of space psvr2 you can play games faster it's plug and play the meta take time to learn where every thing is at first it's long before you can play I see it has alots of different use I would recommend meta over apple I would recommend apple is you have money and hate vr gaming to have show off your status or work with movies watching lol psvr2 if you have ps5 or want a ps5 you can flat game and vr game too Playstation plus premium has vr games you play now they will have more lol it's a better deal meta quest plus it will make a good video
