Spotify is Garbage

- There is zero reason to use Spotify in 2024. The sound quality is a complete joke in comparison to a real music streaming platform like Apple Music.

lmao I could tell how shit it was even using bose headphones
There's nothing inherently wrong with a hot master if that's what the artist intended. Music isn't all about sounding natural, it's an art form. That being said, I have heard many shit atmos mixes and many that exceed their stereo counterparts, it's usually all dependent on if the artist is actually involved in the dolby mastering process or not.
Many times these atmos masters are done by random mastering houses that have no connection with the artists whatsoever, and the result shows. The Weeknd's atmos mixes are hot garbage with stems entirely missing. Billie Eilish however has had wonderful atmos tracks that outshine the stereo masters on the last few albums, in no small part because her and Finneas are actually involved in that process.
Lastly from my perspective as an artist, Atmos kinda sucks ass. If I was very concerned with dynamics, I would make a stereo master with -18 or -22 LUFs and call it a day, rather than let my music be at the whim of whatever black box process dolby wants to do with my art.
Artist lol 😂😂😂😂 ponce you mean engineer
Still waiting for "Normal Male Voice Tutorial"
sahur i am able to hear bats and have some experience with music. I am poor and looking for work is this ability of mine any useful?
Do you need to have Dolby Atmos spatial sound enabled in Windows to properly listen to Atmos recorded music?
apple music atmos is not on windows
Have you picked up any physical cd versions of the songs you're analyzing? Just to see if the compression is something the streaming service is applying or if it's inherent to the mix.
it's lossless.
where can i listen to atmos music on windows with normal headphones? or do i have to switch back to iphone and get airpods and apple music🥺
tidal maybe
has anyone figured out why Qobuz and Tidal sound better thru Roon as opposed to their respective players? Especially Qobuz seems to have some baked in EQ and/or compression and there’s a few threads on Reddit theorizing this as well. I wish Roon had Atmos support.
So I am not crazy at all spotify songs always sounds like the vocals are at the back of my head and apple music/flacs from bandcamp always has the vocals at the front.
no
I appreciate Bandcamp they have cool source formats.
But since their inception Streaming and Playlists weren't their purpose. 👊
the real problem would be dynamic range compression or loudness equalization. im confused if the streaming services apply a lil loudness equalization to all tracks or is it just all music in general were compressed first in mastering coz if its done in mastering then everything stereo really does suck. aside from that comparisons are gonna be hard if youve never heard or dont understand the difference in dynamics like so many normal people.
I noticed though while using atmos on my mac that songs have way less dynamic range compared to just lossless?
That's the bad cheap mixing same happens with poor 3d audio in games wen done cheap it's quite and soft sounding
wtf happend to the dynamics and treble
Are you aware of the low drone or hum in your recording? The room ambiance is also so loud it's obnoxious.
have u seen/heard the stax x9000? based on woodenears measurements its upper treble, or atleast up until around 16k, is ridiculously smooth, like nova foam levels of smooth
yes i have heard x9k and no it is not that smooth, but it is pretty good for an over ear
master 2 sounds like it has more meat on the bone.
But, I gotta pay attention to hear it, its a side upgrade. Windows apple music implementation is like a intern did it. It is god awful. Not worth the effort on a Windows PC, nor an Android phone.
People would take apple seriously if it gave a damn about OS systems besides their own.
At the same time, Spotify has phenomenal windows/android phone cross talk implementation and network. I just don't understand their low bit rate service. Bunch of business management suits in charge of the company handicapping progress.
i could tell with phone speaker
the second is litterally muffled or bassy
whats up with people saying "harman sounds bad at X dB"? isnt the dB level presented as a linear value in a frequency response graph, therefore amplitude levels not mattering (harman is still the most preferred sound signature, regardless of loudness)?
Maybe due to Fletcher Munson curves
they are talking about equal loudness contours
Spotify hifi is allegedly about to be released soon and if leaks are true it should include lossless. Problem with other streaming platforms is that they don't have most of my music.
if it doesn't have atmos it's pointless
the problem is that they've been saying that for 4 years now "ah dang it's gonna be released any minute now"
cut your losses and get apple music or deezer already
@@JessicaFEREM I already tried all other music streaming platforms, like I said they don't have most of my music.
@@ExeonzI whole heartedly agree with you.
I am on a tidal trial and even did a whole library/playlist transfer from spotify and I was missing
I've heard Tidal is better when it comes to Dolby Atmos tracks. Might be worth reviewing and ranking the 3 options on the market: Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music.
bro that music is made for 12 yo teenagers why you listen to that.

@@paletorturedblue1817 kpop is better than what you listen to probably

Music taste is subjective I don't think it sounds bad.
There's nothing wrong with listening to what you want. However, shitting on people's varying tastes in music is just unnecessary bruh
the added dynamic range on kick drums is genuinely life changing. though sometimes the vocal mix sounds less natural.
edit: nvm only WILDFLOWER by Billie Eilish has life changing kick drums. Otherwise, atmos mixes are quite inconsistent in quality. BCNR for example sounds like a -10db high shelf filter was applied at 8khz.
nah
Where does youtube fall into this?
Tidal can go as high res as it wants but it doesn't have Safe Computer by Wing and Rappy Mcrapperson so spotify is the superior streaming platform
need atmos
not all atmos albums on apple music are good though, some are just insufferable
not new ones
I just buy all my music I like on bandcamp and use spotify when I'm bored of the music I already have. Its a good tool for discovering music but noticeably lower fidelity than original flac. Spotify's highest quality files are 320 kbps ogg vorbis so they will sound more compressed than any flac file. CZcams music with a premium account is also 320 kbps.
Wait. If you were already a sharur fan, this is not news. Why waste time on this?
Wow didn’t know that. I use Apple Music but also free version of Spotify for other people’s playlists
time to get a 9.6 setup

Apple Music better?

Common knowledge, use Qobuz or Tidal. Apple music is garbage too
No
Spotify isn't trying to appeal to audiophiles. There is much more money to be made from noobs who don't know anything about audio. Atmos hardly makes a difference when you listen with raycons.
Qobuz>tidal>apple>spotify
Depends on the album. I use Qobuz and it is true lossless for bit rate and frequency, but some albums have terrible dynamic range. It is all thanks to the music industry pushing the idea of loudness war. Now days, most record labels completely destroy dynamic range in favor of loudness, because most people think that a louder song has “better quality”. Even vinyl records suffer from this effect because the master records are taken from the digital master, not the uncompressed analog master. If what Sharur says its true and Dolby Atmos masters reproduce uncompressed dynamic range, then it is the way to go. Qobuz doesn´t support Dolby Atmos that I know.
@@danyjames7690 I would also choose more dynamic range vs. louder average. Louder average SPL has less dynamic range.
Same thing in HDR movies where people use vivid modes vs the acurate film makermode. EOTF gets boosted so much, TV has no left over power to do a peak highlight because its boosting the average picture brightness so much.
i definitely prefer the second one
