- I review the SMSL SH-9, which is the headphone amplifier I use with my Audeze LCD-5 over-ear headphones.

How much does it improve the soundstage, imaging, layering compared to the old one?
how good are its preference bounds and dynamics?
what u think about simgot supermix 4?
Amps and dacs and eq cope oh my 🎉
Man can you make a tutorial on how to worn the DT990 pads properly?
would the t71 not be overkill as a dac? i feel like if ur using the sh-9 anyway there would be a dac that performs around the same while costing much less
no
what dac would you recommend if i were to use the sh-9 with the indomitable MOONDROP COSMO
qudelix t71
would you recommend people not buy the dx3 pro+? i dont exactly understand the problem you were having with the "protection" as im kinda new to all this stuff, but i thought dx3 pro+ was one of the best dac/amp combos in its price range?
dx3 pro+ is not good
@@Sharur1 i know amp/dac is mainly cope but i just need sumn decent in $150-250 range that can drive power hungry cans and has a dac. i dont care how shit the remote is or the bright screen, etc. should i really not get dx3 pro+ and look for alternative?if so, any recommendations $150-$250?
So it is better than my iFi Phantom? 😮
What dac do you use with it
Qudelix T71
I had an smsl h300, it worked really well for me until it randomly just decided it never wants to turn on ever again a few month later. Also had a smsl su1 die on me after about a year of usage. Good thing u got that amp/dac for free.
i paid shenzhenaudio 189 dollars after the fact last night because i learned the amazon refund came from them and i didn't want to pay the listed price for an open box unit
Just got into this vid to say WHERE IS THE MOONDROP COSMO
Let me get this straight you had SH-9 in high gain at 99 driving your LCD5 at clipping levels and had them on your head listening ? .. and you don't have hearing damage yet ?
at 20 Hz where hearing is most insensitive
@@Sharur1 so you were listening to a tone at 20hz ? not music ? at full volume , full gain ?
yes
@@Sharur1 and the point of that ? to see if you get any distortion ( audible ) at full gain and full volume ? is anyone actually going to play music at full gain full volume on a SH-9 ?
it's to test the power of the amplifier
what tv do you use ? s90c?
lg c1
In the way of becoming a dac amp lover channel
Oh man I get crap for running my HE-1000 off a Aune X7s because apparently its too big a mismatch. I feel better knowing someone is running LCD5 off a SH-9 haha :D
On a serious note though, kinda wanna try this now
mismatch of price, that's it. It's much easier to make a good headphone amplifier than headphone.
@@Sharur1 Oh for sure, but im one of those who thinks thats the case for speakers too tbh, even though electronics tends to eat alot more of the budget there. Paul from PS Audio says the same thing, thats good enough for me haha
Still, it is a bit funny to me seeing 6500 dollar headphones driven off a 300 dollar amp :D
I do have some high end headphones too, but what always ends up back on my head is the humble K712pro, which im waiting for parts to do a balanced conversion on. Kinda interested in the SH-9 for that purpose, mostly to shake things up and try something new again
The Benchmark HPA-4 is still the best measuring one and they are the only ones using that specific implementation of THX.
there are several thxaaa-888 amplifiers
Isnt the Topping A70 Pro better than all the THX Amps? Its so powerful it blows headphones up for some.
@@Jordonater Lower noise but not lower THD.
@@DEALUX I highly doubt that THD is audible its still great.
The best amp is the Qudelix 5K. Headphones should be more sensitive, if the Qudelix can't power the headphones, the headphones are the problem and should be replaced. No parametric EQ on any amp makes it DOA.
wrong
😂
new profile picture is peak
now youv've got that amp , try the Beyer DT880 600 ohm in it and see just how good the DT 880 really can be..
lol u are clueless
dt880 600 ohm is an easy headphone to drive because it needs very little current
@@Sharur1 and that's a clueless reply !! Everyone knows the 600ohm DT880 is very hard to drive .. Do you even own a pair ?
i do and it sucks
@@Sharur1 In what way does it SUCK ? break down it's sucking please
Use SoundSource on Mac.
no because i use qudelix
@@Sharur1 Well, listening on a Mac, there is no need nor benefit from a Qudelix.
@@susokraut3169 does sound source need to be open always? what is the latency of soundsource?
@@Sharur1 It does not have to be open, but it is the most convenient way and I leave it open, it just remains in the background. I have no numbers on latency, but don't experience any problems. It is just so convenient that you can upload self-made EQ profiles.
@@susokraut3169you can do that with qudelix as well
05:20 I'd love to have these rich man problems.
I thought you always said the Apple Dongle is all you need.
for iems
@@Sharur1 i see
Can I have that for free? So that you save more space in your place? This is not ninjaFofo
Doubt its sounds better than Apple dongle
it will get louder!
motu m2
Sold the SH-9 in favor of the 789, which was way better. Later on I sold that for the 887, which was basically the same but a hair less fatiguing in treble.
how is 789 better than SH-9?
@@Sharur1 It's all subjective. Going off of memory the 789 was more of what I would call a true THX reference experience, providing more neutral clarity and detail versus what I recall was a more smoothed-over presentation from the 888 implementation on the SH-9. The 887 kind of split the difference b/w those two. Take my opinion for what it's worth = nothing ;)
@@Reeeepicheep all have totally flat frequency response, it is your imagination.
@@Reeeepicheep Never heard SH-9 but 789 and SU8 or SH8 all sounds the same. Indeed, its your imagination. SH-9 is better. Again, they all sounds the same.
I can honestly say that I have been so happy with my 789 for the past 3+ years. I've never needed more power than the XLR output can provide and I love that it handles IEMs great as well. I use an Audient iD4 interface as my DAC. Julian Krause has a great video showing how it has the best dynamic range and distortion performance out of any interface (as of a year ago) in the ~$200 category. I really haven't even paid attention to the DAC/amp market since putting that combo together because I've been so content with it.
