    There are certain basic ASL signs that everyone should know. These survival signs are used in everyday conversation, and they're some of the first words that all beginners learn.
    In this video, our expert teacher Tony is going to teach you some essential vocabulary for things like food, family, clothing, and more!
    You’ll learn a variety of ASL signs in common categories. Here is just a preview of all the words you’ll learn how to sign in this quick tutorial:
    -Mom, dad, brother, and sister
    -Home, work, and school
    -Drive, walk, and cycle
    -Night, day, week, and month
    -Hot, cold, and warm
    -Please, thank you, excuse me
    You’ll also learn a few crucial tips for memorizing new vocabulary. For example, masculine signs are above the nose and feminine signs are below the nose.

    this is to help me split it up into sections to review later, but I hope it helps you too!
    0:48- family
    1:20- tip for feminine and masculine signs
    2:23- places
    3:28- time signs
    4:29- temperature signs
    4:56- food signs
    5:57- clothing signs
    6:26- request signs
    he was pretty fast for a beginner like me, but I changed the speed to a little slower so I could catch on easily! TakeLessons has really helped me in my journey of learning ASL- thank you!!

    Good class, it's just that the camera is way too close. There's a few times when the hand signs are out of the picture frame.

      This. Also it is entirely unhelpful how many times he taps/twists certain signs without explaining exactly how many are supposed to occur or what the nuance is.

      Hi, go to settings, click on playback speed, then choose 0.5. that will be helpful

      I'm a beginner but I just pause, practice, and move on. Or I double tap the screen to go back 10 seconds

      @@FootballFanLeanne It is a very good and helpful video, but having to pause and rewind over and over is a little frustrating, especially since some of the videos on this playlist repeat and/or move at a slower pace.

    Instructor went WAY TOO FAST! I had to pause and rewind with every new sign. Camera is too close and some signs were not able to be viewed entirely. Otherwise, I did learn many new signs.

    Its good, but I am completely new, and when you go that fast, the signs wont stick and you will forget so when you describe them, the actions, it helps.

    I LOVE this. I watch a lot of ASL vids cuz I'm trying to learn, but sometimes I like a class that just shows the sign and moves on instead of stopping after to explain each one. That way I can learn more words. Thanks!

    Many thanks for this session of ASL. I really enjoyed it. You gave me a lot to chew on so I will have to play it over & over again until I get the signs right. My nephew is deaf so I am going to forward this video to Jamaica to his friends who don't know or understand his sign. Friends, in order to keep this lady in business, we must watch all the advertisements to the end; &, the Advertising Company will pay her to keep coming.❤😅

      I'm learning a little at a time. I got so happy today that I was watching asl vlogs and I recognized school, store, father, son, daughter, walk, car. Seriously every time I recognized a word in conversation I was so happy!

    would love a little more context when presenting new words, like this is how you use it in a sentence type thing. OR making sure to describe the important details of how to hold/shape your hands.

      It helps to watch a video over and over and practice the signs over and over until you know and remember the sign. Some I can remember and some I still need to watch to learn.

    this lesson was great and incredibly informative! i was even able to structure some sentences. i did have to look up knife on my own though, to make the kitchen set complete ;)

    It’s a very informative video but you should slow down and maybe put the categories in their own videos so you have more time to repeat the signs to understand and better grasp. Keep it up though, beggars can’t be choosers !

    Way too fast without repeating for us to understand or confirm that we are doing it correctly. There are too many others out there for me to keep pausing and going back.

    Ok I'm really new so I want to know do all of these signs have to bounce so much? It's going to take forever to say a sentence if I have to bounce each sign 15 times.

      You only bounce certain signs based on how many syllables there are in the word/ phrase you're trying to say. Don't worry, over time you'll learn how to them quickly and smoothly :)

      Depends on the sign :D Signs such as today have to bounce 2 but the majority of sign you don't have to :)

    I have MS and it has made me a much slower thinker and don’t have the flexibility I used to so it’s harder to get my fingers right and I have to pause the video go back. It got frustrating so I quit watching for now, I will definitely go back and try it again and will watch it a few times to get it.

      Just like the letter U is for uncle and the letter A for aunt you use the letter N for nephew and the letter N for niece in proper section of the face. Which female below the nose mail above the nose.

    It would be good to know gender neutral terms, like person, child, sibling, and parent. From my understanding, I just have to spell out agender. I'll probably have to spell out nibling, too. There isn't even a good gender neutral alternative for aunt/uncle in English, so I get that. Thankfully I'm not one yet and probably won't be for a good while. And I'll never be a parent, but one day my friend will be, and I want to be able to refer to them.
