- In this video, I show my Twin Lakes CO dispersed camping site, which I made home for two weeks in my Astro camper van. I show off the beautiful views, go on a hike and have some surprise visitors join me for a relaxing, away from the crowds campsite.

Hi All. This was the last of the videos I’ve put together to get my channel to current. New fresh videos in the works. I have a list of over 100 video ideas.
Stay tuned…subscribe and thanks for being part of the channel. 😁👍😉
Beautiful scenery
It's a shame all the homes abandoned. Enjoy the hike, beautiful area.
I know. It’s unfortunate that the resort complex isn’t being used anymore. Not easy getting back there though, except hiking or by boat. Thanks for checking out the video. 😉
Gorgeous lake view! Great scenic shots!
Thanks! I really enjoyed my time there. Look forward to going back. 👍
Thanks for the great video. The filming is very professional, the blending of stills & video is seamless & the narration & music just right, Thanks again. If I don't get there in person (due to "advanced maturity") tagging along with you is the next best thing.
Oh! Thanks for the complement on the editing. That is super nice of you. I debated with myself if I should even make this video from “the past summer” or just get on with new content. It may not get the views of a build video, but I am happy you and others enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! 😁👍
Absolutely gorgeous upload bdu, you narrated this whole upload so nicely and professionally!
Hi there! I really appreciate the feedback, very nice of you. I sometimes do text explanations in videos, but I feel like the vocal narration is way better, if I can find a quiet place to get it done. I did this early in the morning in my van before it got too hot. Funny note: I was turning my fan off and on during voiceover clips and I forgot to turn off the fan in one clip. Whoops! 😁 So, not perfect, but thanks for acknowledging my efforts. 👍 Also, thanks for watching the video. More to come……
Good to see you again Troy. Your videos are positive in our negative world.
Plan to keep the videos coming! Thanks for checking it out. Definitely hope to keep it positive. 🤙
Dropped by Twin Lakes many times in the 90s. Stayed a few times at Mount Elbert Lodge up the road. Hiked, backpacked, camped via the Mount Elbert Trail up in the higher areas. 👍♥️
Cool! So, you are very familiar with the area. 👍 It was my 1st time to visit Twin Lakes, but I hiked/walked the whole area in my two weeks camped there. I didn’t even mention all the wide open dispersed camping further up the road. I do plan to go back, so maybe a Mt Elbert hike is in my future. 😮
So very beautiful...I love it...Can ya catch a few fish for dinner too...???
It is awesome there! I hope to go back soon. I am seriously considering adding fishing as a hobby. I just wish there was a nation wide fishing license. 😁
Wow...that's a clear brook! What a long, sweet, long hike!
And you convinced your dad to vancamp! Woot!
Of the free campsites you've stayed at, what percentage would you rate as Great, Good, Meh, or Awful?
Hey Kathryn. Yes, my Dad actually bought his Dodge Ram camper van not too long after we completed my van build. He got the bug. 😜 Ok, so the free campsites….I use Campendium to search for my sites, so I have a good idea before I go, based on the comments. I’ll try anything once….so even a bad review might not keep me from trying. There is one campsite in CO that is marked as closed, but its not. The last comment from over a year ago, said it was closed, but they just put in new light poles and reopened. Still marked as closed.
I mark all the campsites I like in my Favorites in Campendium, which gives them a heart. I would say Meh to most of them on the weekends or holidays, but I can’t stand crowded camps. Weekdays, most are great. 😁
@@TravelingTroy If you had a choice between a van or a 4x4 pickup with a slide-in pop-up camper, which would be most versatile? I have a top-heavy Class B that weighs 9,000lbs (duh, for some reason I always want to say 9 tons) and, I'm told, won't do to take in sand or mud.
@@kathrynarnold1966 Hmm…Well, since I am now going 4x4 pickup, I would probably lean toward that. 😁 A slide in pop up camper is my future, but prices are ridiculous. Watch for my video tomorrow morning to see what I settled on. An intro to the truck setup. Just finished uploading it. Will set it to go live at 7 or 8 am CST. 😉
@@TravelingTroy Super! I am mostly dreaming. No idea how I'd afford it.
One of the channels I've followed, they have a 4x4 with an enormous slide-in, plus a rear platform. It's a beast, much bigger (and more expensive) than anything I'd want. They had the pickup bed removed and replaced with a flatbed platform, leaving side room for additional storage compartments beside and under the (formerly) slide-in.
At vid marker 3:47 the mountain looks like a volcano letting out some smoke
Yes! It does look like a volcano! That’s about what I was thinking when getting the pics. 👍
So you will live out the f150 now? Astro going up for sale? Have you gone to Arkansas? Its a beautiful state with lots of mountains and its free to visit the state parks, can shower at them.
Yes, the F150 will be my new travel setup of the future. I will probably start with a basic build, while I transition from the Astro van, then expand to something bigger (popup camper) down the road. I have been thru Arkansas a few times, but haven’t thoroughly explored camping options. Going with the newer, lower mileage, basic build in the 4x4 truck should allow me to explore more areas without as much concern as with the 26 year old van quitting on me. Haha! 😁 Thanks for the Arkansas mention. I will for sure look into it more. 👍

Awesome!
