You have instantly projected to my mind to the happiest holidays in my life at Blackpool, thank you! This footage is a document to pass onto the next generation of how we lived.

I live in Blackpool and worked at the pleasure beach for 4 seasons, from 1999 until 2003, when I left to go into security. I have made friends with others that worked there, one of whom we are so close, we are like sisters, and I met my ex husband, working there. Between the ages of 17 to 21, where the happiest days of my life, working there. Thank you for posting this
Happiest times ever. Used to go every year and stay on Central drive at a relatives guest house. Everything about the Pleasure Beach, sights, sounds, and the smell was awesome. Best place to be as a kid growing up.
this brings back so many happy memories.i went to pontins in blackpool in 1978 with my late cousin, mick.we were 17 year old punks at the time and went to the pleasure beach most nights looking for lasses. wish them days were back.thanks for posting...
Brilliant footage...i remember my first trip aged 8 on my dad’s work outing from Birmingham. To go on the big rides you had to be 18 years and over. 😀 so i felt miffed watching my dad and his mates on the wild mouse etc
What a great film ! To have had a camera with zoom and sound must have cost a fortune with developing costs too. This takes me back to my first visit in 1979,to hear it as well is fantastic !
So sad in the 60 s my Aunt used to give us the cash to go and play in there all day ! we loved it no health and safety then ! massive Wooden Sides brilliant ! in the Fun House ! what a great time to be a child ! this health and safety stuff has turned many kids into wimps....!
@@purplesunflower8242 you do realise how many unnecessary deaths have been saved by this evil beast "Health and Safety"? The monster, space tower , Astro Sweell Tom Sawyer raft ride, all sadly gone and some of the best rides then in the 80s early 90s for me and I'm only 29 thanks for uploading this
What a fantastic video. The Mouse 20p!? lol! Sure I sat in that exact same car last week!. Fascinating to see how the pleasure beach was back then. All seems a lot more innocent and fun. Not the same now but i'll always have a soft spot for Blackpool. I'm going next week , can't wait.

Superb video of Blackpool Pleasure Beach I was only a kid then and watching this has brought back memories, the Pleasure Beach hasn't really changed much it still is magical and it has brought a lot of pleasure to millions of people throughout the years, I love the sound of the laughing King, Blackpool is a wonderful town it's a shame that it's going downhill it needs more investment.
Blackpool has been my favourite place ever since I was young. Now I'm 18 and the Pleasure Beach is my all time fav theme park. It has brilliant history.
Amazing film and a remarkable piece of social history brilliantly captured. Had many happy holidays in Blackpool in the 60s and 70s. The quality of the images in places could easily be mistaken for 16mm, it is simply stunning and shows the fantastic quality that super 8 can achieve. Having live sound as well adds that extra dimension that makes all the difference. Hearing the sounds from around the pleasure beach really showcases what the sound cameras were designed to do. I had a super 8 sound camera back in the day but I never really used it to its full potential like in your film. Thank you for uploading.
I was 21 in 1977 and holidayed in Blackpool that summer with my family.Man that ride "The monster" was brilliant, best ride in the pleasure beach..happy memories.Alas I've not been there since the eighties ..heard it's not good for families anymore ,full of druggies and Strags and hens getting drunk etc.Shame.
Actual Pleasure Beach and the attractions and the Promenade, no. Pleasure Beach is like a theme park now. It's great. And the front is beautiful. A lot has been invested. Don't judge if you haven't been there, go there yourself before you express and opinion based off someone else's tale.
Was there for a 5 day holiday in the summer last year whilst the weather was amazing. Felt like being in Spain. Didn't see a single stag or hen do. Didn't see any drug use. Didn't see anyone getting drunk. Doesn't mean to say it doesn't happen but then it will happen in my local town too. I just don't tend to venture into the areas of town and times where and when that happens. Saw plenty people having fun at the Pleasure beach and seafront enjoying themselves, exactly like in this video.

What a wonderful film, I really enjoyed watching it. Was it shot on super 8 film? If so it is a real bonus having the sound to go with it, pretty rare back then I should think. This is the Pleasure Beach as I remember it, thanks for sharing your day there all those years ago with us. It was almost like being there, like a time traveller. Brilliant.
I'm glad that you enjoyed my home movie, it was shot of Super 8, most camera companies sold sound cameras in the mid 1970's but they were quite expensive.
Hi Mackenzie, When you said 1977/78 were u unsure of the date? Because I noticed that the exact date is shown outside of the Goldmine ride :-) I've seen this film before but I loved seeing it again ...thanks again for posting it
Great Film , brought some great memorys back.. took my kids their a short while back.. near bankrupt after paying todays prices lol. never even managed to win a Gonk ! either ;-)
Absolutely hated the wild mouse ride, felt like it would fall off the track when it went round corners🤪 and why do I remember a laughing policeman and not a clown, first time I ever saw that thing it gave me bloody nightmares for weeks 😩
That laughing clown used to scare me as a kid back in the 70s. This footage was wonderful it takes me right back
It was a king, not a clown, but everyone used to know it as the laughing clown. Unsurprisingly odd.

Your clips looked great on the show, it's just been on, did you catch it?
Just stumbled on this video. Thanks for uploading it. I was about 7yrs back then.I was absolutely overjoyed when I saw the Sooty and Sweep bit. I loved that and would always ask Mum to put money in everytime we visited the pleasure beach. Thanks for bringing back such happy memories.
Blackpool hasn't changed from the 70's.... it has unfortunately been left back in the past to rot by Blackpool council... sad.
Bullshit has it. I went baxk for the first time in 20 years and it was hugely different
Completely and utterly untrue! Why make such a stupid comment?
Thanks, just looked for it but can't see it on our ITV, is it ITV1? Cheers
Beautiful video.
Thank you very much.
That's very interesting, so glad that you found this clip, have you been back lately?
Truly moving and fascinating insight into the old Blackpool. Thank you for sharing! Were you the little toddler sir in the video?
No I'm not in it just behind the camera, I would have been around 26 the red head was my wife!

Great video keep looking for my family and I in the background lol. Brings back so many memories. Was 8 years old in 77. Was this filmed on a cinecam?
I'm so glad that you enjoyed my home movie, it was shot on a Super 8 mm sound film camera. I think the camera make was a Canon.
@@mackenzierough it’s been a great blessing to me. Thank you for sharing it. Which one is you? If you feel comfortable saying.
So glad that you enjoyed this, I'm not in it just behind the camera, this is me! czcams.com/video/KrMu5n8TXeo/video.html
Because I noticed that the exact date is shown outside of the Goldmine ride :-) I've seen this film before but I loved seeing it again ...thanks again for posting it
The first half is 1977 and the second half is 1978 it says outside the Gold Mine Sep 3rd 1978, glad that you enjoyed it
1978 film starts at 5min 30secs in
The mad mouse that brings back great memories the laughing clown recall all these great family days out in the 70 s
