    I remember them building the Pepsi Max, then when it was built looking over from my classroom at Palatine High School. I was 11 then, great memories of a time when Blackpool was on top form. I don't live in Blackpool anymore, but it will always be home, growing up there, coming of age there, going to collage in Bispham, then ultimately leaving in 2004. I had a drive over a couple of years ago, and was shocked by how much it's changed, and was gutted to see that Palatine had been demolished, had some great memories of Palatine and my form tutor Mr Whalley, and what a Whalley he was, in a good way 😂

    Can't help feeling nostalgic watching these scenes. So many classic rides that have bit the dust..log flume, wild mouse, monster, space invader. My favourite ride as a kid was the monorail - I remember the little chap that used to drive it, Teddy Askey. Happy days!

    Nothing but happy family holiday memories of Blackpool and the Pleasure Beach. Last time I was there 3 years ago, I couldn’t believe how much it had changed, everything seemed so run down. Fantastic to see the Log Flume again, we managed to get my great grannie on it when she was in her eighties! Now, like so many things, both gone, but still missed and loved.

    Blackpool was completely different in those days, the widespread deprivation hadn’t started to set in yet. The Pleasure Beach was magical as a kid, it still had strong elements of the bygone era with new exciting projects on the horizon. I remember late night openings, it was always better at night with the lights and buzz of chaos. Had many family trips that will be forever remembered.

    The park looked so well kept. I assume they’re going for the ‘natural’ look now whilst slowly replacing all the wood on the woodies, but my god they look like a state at the moment. Look so fresh and clean here!

    • @richards9750
      @richards9750 Před 2 lety +1

      They treat the wood on the woodies now instead of painting because paint speeds up the rotting process supposedly.

    • @dougbriglmen716
      @dougbriglmen716 Před 2 lety +3

      @@richards9750 basically the reason they don’t paint them is because paint eventually cracks, and then water gets inside the cracks and it has nowhere to go and it ends up going inside the woods and then making the wood rot.
      At least that’s what Alex the technical director was saying when we had a Q&A with him at Pleasure Beach experience.

    There used to be a ride there in the 80’s called “The Ranger”, a smaller enclosed pirate ship but went full 360, it was terrifying. I remember one of the restraints not working and there was just a note on it saying do not use!! Health & safety back then hey? Also getting rid of the wild mouse was a terrible decision, was one of the best white knuckle rides in the park but “The Revolution” was always my favourite, must have rode it several hundred times all in all. Great vid and thanks for sharing.

    Wow! As someone born in the 21st century it seems so surreal to look at a completely different Blackpool. The waterways, open grassland and a entirely absent Area of the park complete with a pirate ship (where Valhalla currently is) creates a stark contrast
    I don’t think the newer theme park has declined or become run down or anything like that, but The past is definitely being ignored for the future. Some parts of the park such as the area around the Big Dipper and grand National have gotten no love with most of the buildings being empty. The area where the wild mouse used to be is just a hole. whereas across the park Icon and Big one are clearly kept to a higher standard. It’s saddening to see infusions water fountains next to a rotting train track, or the monorail tracks awkwardly stood in the shadow of the big one. It’s infuriating to see Blackpool ignore parts of the park that are around 100 years old and instead putting all its money on new investments in a attempt to rival Merlin.

      A themepark has to offer new experiences otherwise like any other attraction people stop coming. its now a modern themepark not a fun fair or museum. Should blackpool tower not of had its recent makeover and look how it did in 1894? should its circus still have elephants as part of the show. things have to change.
