Thoroughly enjoyed this although I was born in 1955 I can remember lots of places in Blackpool don't know what happened to the indoor market beside the Tower you had to go down stairs to get in, it was great, I can remember a lady who used to make lace dressed dolls in the market .I last went there in 2000 and she was still there making the dolls and other things she must have been about 80 then. 🗼😊

Loved looking at these old photos, though some are very old. I was born in 1964, my grandparents lived in St Anne's (grandad worked at Dewhurst butchers in the Square, and also sold ice cream at one point). Then they moved to Blackpool lived North Shore opposite Victory pub. Used to go 4 times a year for at least a week each time.
If it was good weather we went to the beach, not so good we went to Stanley Park.
My Dad was also a member of the George Formby society, they used to meet up in the Winter Gardens, he passed away 2020 with Covid but used to enjoy playing his banjo.
Great times thank you for the memories.

Maria Kaye formerly of Manor rd.. grew up playing in Stanley Park and then worked close to the beach at a hotel on Albert Rd after Tyldesley High school, Loved the tower Ballroom with me Nana and all the streets, learnt to swim at Derby Baths and loved the circus and Charlie Caroli, Snuck on many a ride at the Pleasure beach too..The laughing clown at the end of this clip really brings back that whole fun house experience and the smell of Candy Floss and mussels...truly a masterpiece!

Looking at this film brought back such happy memories. My mom, her sister and their mom bought a boarding house in Park Road, just off Church Street. I used to stand outside the stage door of the the theatres and get autographs of the stars. It was such a happy place to be and loved living there but unfortunately Blackpool today is nothing like it was. Thanks you Blackpool for my memories as a child and memories last forever. I am using my husbands iPad and my name is Gillian.

The 70's. 80 90's business owners ruined a lot. In the 80's the winter gardens was a kids play area, abused by children. The older sites were destroyed to make way for new stuff.
At least now they realise the cultural and historical significance of the building interior and exterior.

I don't visit Blackpool very often, and is not the place like in the 1960s when on a hot summer day, thousands of people, holidaymakers, and daytrippers were in town. There is of course the famous Tower and Winter Gardens. There were two swimming pools, the indoor Derby Baths at the North Shore, and the open air baths at the South Shore, replaced by the indoor Sandcastle Water Park. My favourite amusement was having brown or grey stockingfeet in the famous Funhouse at the Pleasure Beach. But even the Pleasure Beach with the mighty Pepsi Big Max Roller Coaster fails to impress me now.

Enjoyed the video but set a little bit before my time. Glad to see many people agree with an email
I sent a few days ago saying how the Blackpool of today has deteriorated and now It looks quite slummy.
It’s a pity things have to change and many times not for the better.
I think things began to change when boarding houses became self catering and B and Bs.
The boarding houses of the past were great. After an early morning walk on the Prom returning to have breakfast
the lovely smell of bacon cooking as one walked along the street to where you were staying certainly whetted the appetite. A table on the ground floor window with White tablecloth and condiments which always included HP sauce and Vinegar was the hallmark of of every boarding house!
You didn’t always get the sea view promised or you might get a glimpse if you poked your head out of the window and looked to the left still they were happy days and something you always looked forward to.
      Memories memories.
      l
On a positive note I read the other day that Blackpool beach has been voted the third best beach in the
      World!
