  • The ELAN GT6-inspired design by Porsche. Do you think they pulled it off? Wait until you see the interior. Built for comfort and sails like a dream. As a 50ft production yacht ELAN is working on keeping quality in their range of yachts, unlike some other production brands.

Had the opportunity to sail hull no2 of the GT6 and it was amazing the boat i sailed was a Scottish elan dealers demo boat helping with the delivery from Southampton boat show to Glasgow non stop. Four people for four and abit days in complete comfort and boat is t a med boat when it can cope with steep standing waves and 35-40knts in the irish sea. Great boat to sail its almost a shame it looks so good and has the Porsche link as people want to paint the native that it couldn't possibly sail well because of those design ties. The hull is actually a Humphreys design, who has also done globe challenge fleet for circum navigation. The GT6 definitely handles well in bumpy seas and big winds. Great walk through, glad to have found your channel loving the sailors perspective you bring to the tours. 👌👌👌⛵

Would this boat fit for a circumnavigation with kids? Or is more intend for small trip in the med?

I think that it would be possible but I would prefer a sailboat that was designed and built for circumnavigation. For similar money you could look at an Alures 50 maybe great design very comfortable and built for circumnavigation. Thank you for watching:)

Hello I have sailed a GT6 from Southampton to Glasgow non stop. It took a little over 4 days AVG speed around 8knts. I find the narrative of 'med boats' confused. In Croatia where there are alot of Elan's private and in charter. You get some very strong winds with the Bora's. In excess of 60knts. On our trip in the Irish sea we had over 35kts the GT6 stayed well mannered and controllable. The rope bins make a massive difference to how easy line management is under way. In steep chop the boat didn't slam and maintained speed with a very kind sea motion. They fit and finishing is excellent. Kitchen is great to use underway as it is in the part of the boat that pitches the least over the keel. Overall when I win the euro millions I'm ordering one as an upgrade from my current boat. The boat I sailed was called reflection Great harbour yachts demo boat in Scotland. Fingers crossed again for this week's lotto. Also epic walkthrough really good job very enjoyable to watch and you have the sailors view not the salesperson chat.👌👌

I like Rob Humphreys designs and Elan Yachts but am not happy with the direction of some things which can be changed with an order, such as the really stupid split Cockpit Table which obstructs access to things for emergencies which need to be instant access to what you need, such as the Cockpit First Aid Kit, flares and such, but at keast you don't have to choose it. Different matter with two serious matters for Cruisers bloody Twin Rudders and with this boat, a Shallow Draft of 6ft 6", which is seriously Taking the Piss. I'm actually waiting for a reply to my email asking what Single Rudder 1.6 mtr Draft Sailboats they are willing to continue to supply for an order from me? I'm still waiting three weeks later. So as if now, Elan Yachts have Fallen completely off my potential New Boat Likely Purchasing list A decent Second hand one, from when Elan Yachts were still Sane and Rational, and before they went full on Fashion Fad, remains a possibility, particularly the 434 and 45 models with 1.6 mtr Draft. I can actually live with a 1.75 mtr Draft maximum, but the difference does rule out a considerable number of secure bolt holes to run to away from Storms and Hurricanes, plus 6ft and over, and you really Rule out way too many places you can comfortably get to, and not just in the Bahamas. things get really dodgy in places like the ICW and Erie Canal for example. There is a Lot to like about Elan Construction Quality, but their failure with some pretty important stuff specifically for Owner Model Cruising boats, even though it is repeating the same mistakes of other Builders, I do not find to be in the least bit endearing sadly. Bob.🤔😒 PS, it's a 50 ft boat by the way, and I really like Forward galleys for their comfortable motion, and the ability to be secure in them. Perhaps done vest, by Dufour, though the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490 (and 440) has a very decent Design, with a very nice "two person Breakfast Bar" Nav Station that backs onto the galley, the 440 doesn't have the opposite Bench Seat at the Nav Station. the SO 490 has a Shallow Draft of 1.65 mtrs -5ft 5" 👍 But is another Cruising Boat Ruined with twin bloody rudders. 😡 What is it about Weather Nelm being a critically important early feedback telling you to back things off, that these idiots don't get ? Apologies, but this is so inexcusable and counterproductive to Cruising Safety when trying to manouver around confined spaces at low speeds, The big surprise is the Yachting Magazines aren't up in arms about it - down to being Sailboat Racing Fanatics perhaps ? 🤔

@@semler3 Well I have found a Boat Builder that hasn't gone Stark Raving Bonkers, and thankfully they are able to build the Boat that I need, though I can't fit in what I need into their smallest model sadly, so will have to go with the larger model that is just over 47ft LOA. Still under t0ft, the .e gth at which everything Boating leaps into the realms of running costs insanity, and problems getting Marina Berths just when you need one. The smaller model has a 4ft Draft -perfection- the larger a 5ft Draft, which with extra care and forward and side scan Sonar, I can just about live with, along with Beaching legs, so things are starting to look very positive for the next Sailboat, which also comes with a terrific Bonus feature - Termite Protection, the Builders have actually tackled the Termite problem head on ! So it will now be pretty much Risk free to Sail to rather substantial areas of the World, . Thanks for the good Wishes, and my very best wishes to you and yours. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

@@brownnoise357 Sounds like a Garcia or Allures possibly? If not, do tell. Also, no need to bash what Elan had done... they build a fantastic boat the meets the needs of many. And the tables are not an issue in hectic situations.. AT ALL. I have sailed many Elan models with this table arrangement.. well over 500 hours of time. And the twin rudders... oh my, I'll never go back. The twins react like a Ferrari in "confined spaces at low speeds".

@@semler3 Not a Fan of Aluminium Boats in a Marine Environment vironment tbh. can be ok for extreme Cold Condittons, but steel hulls are far better for those imho, as it's a lot easier to find a top notch steel Welder than a top notch alloy welder. tbh, It's why I qualified as a welder in night School, as at the time extreme Cold didn't affect me really badly. For Temperate and Tropical Climates though, nothing beats Resin infused Laminated Construction as even semi Competent Newbies can do a first class job with them, so zero skills shortage Globally. I do like Elan Yachts, it's just they are now builders of boats for the Mediterranean - fine, a decent Market, and lots of people are happy keeping their Boats there. Bit I like going to other places, and tbh, I have done the Med - a Lot- and there are so many other places I want to see again, and many to go to for the first time - example I am totally gobsmacked by What Saudi Arabia is doing with Agriculture, Talk About Impressive, they are now, thanks to Water Desalination and Drip Agriculture , Food Exporters ! That, I Must go and See , The Boat I am after is built by Island Packet. After Love at first sight with their IP 349, was gutted when I found that I couldn't fit what I need into it- if 30 years younger and not physically disabled, the IP 349 with its 4 ft Draft, would be perfect - but I can get everything I Need with a New Build IP 439 - New Build, due to the long list of Standard Construction Options, most of which to accommodate changes to accommodate disabilities, are at no extra Cost - believe me, compared to having a secondhand boat Customised to what I need, as I can no longer do such Boatwork myselflf - Saves an absolute Fortune, just in Labour Costs. 7 Berths, with Two Dry Heads with sit Down Showers - a really Secure Galley with a utility room /angina and generator easy access . - Easy Access for Servicing everything, with .ights in the Bilges, and masses of Storage, Water and Fuel, plus a better of a Hull Design with Decent Displacement, my nearly Perfect Cruising boat tbh the only small niggle is one I can live with, as extra Caution isn't needed in too many places due to its 5 ft Draft. Beaching Legs will be useful however. Solid Vinylester Construction, a secure Single Rudder, and an encapsulated Lead Keel. Huge Plus - Island Packet's New Owners have Treated the Termite Problem with the Seriousness it Deserves. Bonus Fearure, an Aft Cockpit with a Sugarscoop Stern, so by default it comes with the Secure Tender Dock that I need to easily get in and Out of the Dinghy, and access from there into the Cockpit is good, with good sized Lockers that are easy to get to as well. All I'm waiting for is for my Puggybank to fill back up again, before placing an order. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

@brownnoise357 Ah, IP.. I know it well..and the Coosa board... and the new owners. I have been the number one IP dealer in the world several years over the past 20. The company is too small now to have dealers and we parted ways in 2022. Great boats. Wish you the best of luck.
