Short answer, no not justified. Too many luxury “Blue Water” boats are anything but, everything is about luxury/comfort/amenities, what matters is survivability (water tight bulkheads, crash bulkheads, redundant/independent bilge pumps , owner/operator serviceable systems, etc).

Michael of Sailing Gently CZcams Channel recently lost is Anchor, due to a weak joining chain link. He had always stuck with CQR Anchors and had never had a problem with them including when doing a Circumnavigation during which he was almost exclusively anchoring - personal note, I have never heard of CWR ancorshaving a problem personally, though have been very wary of Anchors with hinges for Somerleyton, probably misplaced - Well Michael couldn't obtain a replacement CQR, and choices available were a Rocna for 800 dollars, or a Lewmar Delta for 400, so he went with the Lewmar Delta, and with several, anchoring now under his belt, so far he is quite happy with it, and he has found that it does set well. With his Beneteau 423 based in the Caribben, when he is away from his Marina Berth in Martiniwue, he is anchoring everywhere he goes so it will be interesting to see of he still ks with his new Lewmar Delta, or reverts to his beloved CQR Anchors . Michael has written a lot of really Superb Sailing books, such as heading South via the French Canals, guides to Meditteranean Marinas etc, plus probably my Favourite book, Coastal hopping along the Coast from The Atlantic Side of Fronce, via Spain and Portugal to Gibraltar with stopovers nightly along the way, which allows using Weather windows to travel as well, which is such a nice Route, it is the inly one I use now to head South. ichael is also extremely good at keeping his books updated, and his videos on them on his Sailing Gently Channel, are a real Treasure tbh Fight now, he is at home in France for Hurricane Season, so fingers crossed for the Safety of gis Boat. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️.

Update on the Wahl Clippers / Trimmers from Ebay UK Wahl store- this is an improvement on my previous one, it is smaller, more ergonomic fit in the hand, plus the charger plug in is easier. much reduced number of combs in the kit however, that is OK, as there's enough for what is needed without lots of combs being easy to lose, hence the great price of £16 . Happy that they are continuing with the non fire hazard Nimh battery too. Verdict so far a Bargain.👍 Bob.

This is perhaps an odd user recommendation for a Sailing Channel, and this product is not from their Professional Range, but I have used Wahl Hair clippers for years, and even this set is usually really expensive, and the last set I bought - about 4 years ago- which got put away (somewhere safe - during the room sort out prior to my leaving hospital- was a bargain at Under £40 yet this is £16 direct from the Wahl store on EBay, including postage? Had to do a copy and paste, as couldn’t get a direct link, but should be an easy find - one Mimh battery, not Lithium ion, so no fire risk on boat 12 hour battery charge for 1 hour use, but my last one worked great with the charger plugged in as well, and Wahl definitely aren’t cheap Chinese Crap- the Cutting Blades were still superb after 4 years of use. Love that Sink in the Galley tbh. Question - How Reliable are Centreboard keels now ? I know they were always fine for Dinghies, but were strictly Taboo for anything bigger than a Dinghy, and literally nobody in the Sailing Communities I was in,was anything other than deeply suspicious of their reliability? So I think I have inherited a Cultural Opposition to them which may or may not be based on very real issues . The biggest issue I directly remember was them being nothing but a total pain in the ass to maintain properly. Frankly, if more than sound enough one would address the lack of a shallow enough Draft I am facing . Have they come on far enough for me to be able to entertain the thought of having one ?🤔 Best Wishes.Bob.🙂🌟🌟🌟❤️⛵️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

Separate shower room/area 5. In mast or in boom furling if only to make it significantly easier Am I allowed to go on? :) aluminum is my top choice for structural integrity to weight ratio and safety. It is looking ascthough I am going to havecto pay for a new Mast and suitable Standing Rigging to be ablecto getvthis on my next boat as gettingvwhat I need is very rare as not have classic Masts. A KISS principles Sloop Rig with an Aft Cockpit. It looks like I'm going to have to get an experimental Furling Main built, which could take a few attempts to get Right. Post Purchase add ons important for me, are secure handholds above and below deck, An Oversized inboard Diesel Engine, preferably Yanmar Direct Drive - Volvo parts are chronically overpriced so I refuse to reward Volvo for that, plus Yanmar parts Globally are much easier to get. Plus good engines deserve good propellers, and I haven't tested a Flexofold Prop yet. I really Like Oversized Genuine Lewmar Delta Anchors on the end of all high quality triple Galvanised chain, especially how mine performed in a pretty extreme Tornado Storm, so I'm sticking with them tbh. No timber o Deck foot and knee friendly Non slip Only, and white forvthe Tropics. Bridge height friendly Mast taking into account a 6 db gain Shakespeare VHF aerial on the end of low loss cable all the way to the Radio below deck, with proper waterproof connections, for maximum range. A Furling Gennaker for Downwind, and a 140 to 150 % Furling Triradial Genoa with 3 reinforced Reefing Points with Telltales and Offshore construction, or a Reaching Furling Code Zero - depends on chat with Sailmaker.. For the routes I am planning on using, a Watermaker is pretty much an essential tbh. I have never had, nor needed a bow thruster, then it dawned in me, they are like having an emergency backup steering, so why not, as I like ackups. LED lighting saves a lot of power ? Siderail mounted Gas BBQ seems sensible while at Anchor, Pretty nuch default are Spray hood, I India for sun and rain shelter, and onnecting to the Aft Cockpit Arch for help shelter. Have a full I dependent Survey Done if you get a secondhand boat to start off on the right foot, and don't forget to get engine oil tested fairly regularly. Try to have annual haulouts as well so very thorough checks can be carried out. The Convenience of very thorough checks was why I really lo Ed a friend's Macwester 25 Bilge Keel and his estuary Mooring which Dried out onto Clean Sand, as he was forever having Boating I cidents die to not paying attention, so we had to wait for low tide and sky out, to thoroughly inspect his Hull with a Torch, before heading to the Pub, with a how the hell did that not do far worse damage frequently going through our minds. He was a lovely guy, ex Merchant Navy, thought he knew enough, but was bloody Clueless about Sailboats. Still , is Little Mac kept him Sane while his parents were going through end of Life Difficulties, plus upstream to his mooring on the Estuary was a cracking place to be, plus an easy walk to the Pub. A major Win, in other Words. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️

@@Pxbsd Add as much as you like, we are compiling a list to see how people's needs or wants in sailboats change. We can then make a short list of videos to go through certain options and types of boats and, how or what companies can do custom work etc. Does that sound interesting to you? To be honest I find it interesting to here what you guys relly want.

My wife and my list: (1) Lines to the helm: halyards, furls, outhauls and reefs should be lines that come back to the cockpit. Powered winches are fine, but you shouldn't have to rely on hydraulic or high voltage systems except for windlasses and (potential) thrusters. (2) Ability to protect/canvass the helm: we sail twelve months a year in the Pacific Northwest, where it hovers just above freezing Nov-Mar and only gets to room temperature on the water July-Sept. Need to be able to protect the helm from wind and rain, either through canvass, dodger, a storm helm, or all of the above. (3) Handholds: boat should have robust handholds getting out of the cockpit and then running forward to at least the mast if not further. This also means good mounts for jack lines. (4) Bright salon: whether "deck salon" or not, PacNW winters are gloomy so we need to make the most of the available light. Big windows, preferably at eye level, and 360 degrees views preferred. (5) Storage, storage, storage: a tidy boat is a less stressful boat to sail. A place for everything and everything in its place. Too many "Category A" boats offer only perfunctory storage in the galley and staterooms, much less generally.

Its Sarah here - yes we had a fab time. A comfortable boat with so much to offer that a mere 45 minutes doesn’t seem to be even close to being enough!

Nice twist on the format. Love the in water sailing review. Sarah adds another dimension to your detail oriented style. Nice boat but a bit small for me.

How about the Ovni 430? we will be on that one soon, I am glad you like the change in format as Sarah wants to do more as we started the channel together when looking for our sailboat.
