Smoked BBQ Source's Dean "Schuey" Schumann shows how to smoke Tri-Tip on a pellet grill using a low and slow cooking method.
Often underestimated, Tri-Tip is a fantastic lean cut of beef that is full of flavor, especially when smoked. It does not require a lot of prep work either - just a few minutes to trim off any fat and silver skin.
A secret to a nice crust when smoking Tri-Tip is to season it with coarse grains. For this recipe, Dean is using a simple salt-pepper-garlic trio.
You will also learn how to set up a pellet grill, although this recipe can be made using any smoker or a grill set up for smoking. Smoking time is another great thing about cooking Tri-Tip. Unlike other cuts of beef, you can smoke Tri-Tip low and slow style in under 2 hours.
Finally, Dean shows the correct way of slicing smoked Tri-Tip to ensure that every single piece is melt-in-the-mouth tender.

Can’t go wrong with tri tip! Only thing I do differently when smoking mine is bringing it up to 120 and then reverse searing it at the end to help put some nice sear marks on it. After letting it rest it will be medium rare. Great video! 🍻

After watching a few of your videos, I'm convinced that I should invest in a smoker in the near future.
