  • It takes about 3 minutes to climb from the lake to the upper bench of our "Zone of Glory". This un-edited shot shows the climbing capability of our CMX Snow Bikes paired with stock KTM and Husqvarna 450's. I'm on the CMX 120 (filmer) , Malcolm Watson is leading on the CMX 129. He's got a climbing advantage on me with that extra track length and more forward drive, but I like the handling of a shorter track. It slows me down a bit, but I accept the trade off.
Notice my shifter extension hitting the snow near the top of the climb, which shifts my bike into neutral. This is why I don't run an extension anymore. I found they create the problem with their added mass. But with a quick recovery I'm back in gear and wheelie'n up to the upper bench of our favourite zone here in the Coast Mountains. By the time I catch up to Malcolm he’s already in the air off a natural feature in the distance.
With their very light ski pressure CMX snow bikes create a more natural feeling ride, we describe as "riding the track". Compared to conventional snow bike kits which have more ski pressure and are often described as having a planted ski...CMX offers a very different Snow Biking experience.

So, I was thinking about this today while riding a bunch of steep stuff. CMX and TS Riot both talk about the ski being light. How does that work with you suddenly hit a short steep bit that you need to pull, and not loop out of?

Great question. A kit with a “planted ski” has an advantage in the scenario you’re describing where it’s Easier to make a last second decision when you have no momentum to pull that steep line. Wilder riding kits like the CMX require more terrain foresight and throttle control in the steep woods. But once you adjust your riding technique you may find the advantages of a light ski for technical terrain riding. I find myself steering more with the track, which for me has become an easier way to navigate gnarlier zones. CMX kits make very different Snowbikes than what most riders are used to. I never insist that it’s a “better” option because different riders want different things. Seems like much of the market prefers a planted ski / pow tractor. Nothing wrong with that at all. This is why I believe demos are so important.

Great stuff! Epic terrain & I love the 360 helmet cam', that's what I run. If you'd like to check out a compilation of our stuff in Alaska, it's all Timbersled: czcams.com/video/8ebUdgusVHQ/video.html I'd love to try your kit though!
