  • Malcolm Watson shaking out the early season jitters on the first ride of the 2021 season. After a catastrophic atmospheric weather event in B.C. our valley got a massive dump of snow above mid mountain. As usual, selecting the days best riding zone comes down to so many variables. We considered everything we'd heard and the choice came down to this zone based on access, the proximity to the Icefield, and its refrigerative effect. Pemberton was lucky to not have our rivers blow out for this reason. The valley stayed pretty cold, keeping the freezing levels up throughout the major storm that sadly destroyed much of B.C. The brutal rain crust layer on the access road up vanished at about 1500 metres as the snow became immediately deep at the freezing level. We had our work cut out for us with no trail, punching through the gnarly woods to eventually reach alpine. At one point we decided to walk a couple of lines to set some traction rather than digging out of repeated stucks in the kind terrain that doesn't offer bow tie traverse options. Working hard in waist deep snow all day, we were fully worked by the time we reached the ridge top. The snow depth was fairly difficult to ride in, but our CMX Snowbikes performed awesome as usual. Finishing the day with a mellow evening moon cruise was the perfect ending to one of the best season openers ever.

you ever think about putting a yellow film over the light bar? It would cut down on the refracture off the white surface of the snow.

Might try that. Warmer lighting would be a nice effect. Like halogen vs led
