Totally agree about MoonKnight. Seemed too thin for the run it was given and could’ve been more succinctly handled with a special, which would’ve probably would’ve left me wanting more rather than making me feel like the whole thing overstayed its welcome
I disagree, I think his characters (Marc and Steven both) needed almost all the time they were given, as the story was centered around their relationship and learning to work together as members of a system and as a superhero. As much as I love Layla, cutting her is the only way I can see a shorter run time working out because she added a lot of complexity to a story that was already hard for many people who didn't have a previous understanding of dissociative identity disorder to understand, while still maintaining the original vision with Harrow and his cult as the antagonist. I could see it having worked by cutting Layla from the beginning, introducing Jake Lockley halfway through the season and giving him a minor, introductory role, and having Layla take Jake's place as the surprise reveal in the credits scene of the last episode. The story would have been able to stay the same, but the focus could have been a little more on just establishing the core elements of D.I.D. and being a superhero before introducing more complicated relationships.

I hope Michael Giacchino makes a full 2 hour long black and white theatrical film with elsa bloodstone, jack russell werewolf by night and manthing based on characters like the Legion of Monsters or Midnight Sons
I actually do agree with your moon knight take. A short following moonknight (fighting crime and not something stupid like giant monster fights) would be neat.
All really want another season of Moonknight where he is just in new york fighting people brutally. I really want to see the abandoned hotel staircase scene. I also think it would be neat to see some of the supernatural things he gets involved in, which are often smaller scale.
@@criticalthought1112 I honestly dont care for the Steven Grant of the comics (but I also understand how someone might not like Steven from the show) but I would be totally down for Moonknight always changing like that and people *never* really knowing whats real or not. I know they probably wont do that because reading comments on the show people were so lost by some of the confusing aspects in just that but I think it would be really neat. I kind of like the idea that no one knows whats real and whats not more like the comics.
Im pretty sure this was actually originally in color, but Micheal Giachnno asked Fiege if if could be in black and white and he went with it. Giachnno talked about this on the Phase Zero Podcast.
i'm pretty sure it was giacchino always wanted it to be black and white, and shot it that way, and it took until the third cut of the special to convince fiege to let it be black and white.
Yeah, but that was before filming began. Giacchino said in an interview that they decided on black & white before filming, shot scenes in black & white and then showed it to Feige, who approved on it. After which they could film the rest that way. It's not like they filmed in color & made it black and white in post
I really love Werewolf by Night, but I dissagree that Moon Knight should be an hour or 2 movie. The MK tv series introduce to the viewer a differnet take on the comic moon knight. But the character is still there, and the show have only 3 human characters (Marc/Steven-Layla-Arthur) don't have joke like at all, the super cgi suit is kept mostly at the end. It a charater study show and it was perfect imo . And this might sound like a fan boy but I think phase 4 had a lots new experiment and lay the ground work for 5 and 6
If anything Moon Knight needed more episodes. The biggest issue with it is that it got rushed towards the end. They should at least have another season set in new york with him established fighting street level crime or supernatural stuff on a small scale.
An hour long moon knight special where he’s in an asylum and we’re questioning whether or not he’s actually moon knight or just batshit crazy would’ve been great
I agree with R rating too, not everything has to be for the kids...and lets be honest when I grew up anyway all the kids watched Robocop, Terminator 2, Aliens, Predator anyway.
Moonknight and WandaVision and my two favorite Phase 4 entries, so the idea of turning Moonknight into just an hour would KILL me. I get your reasoning, but I think I just appreciated the long development of her character(s).
Absolutely the worst thing they could have done for MK is make it a short special. There was just so much to work with with the mystery and the character etc. Like going forward I could see a moonknight special working but the first season should have been a bit longer if anything.
I mean the story of the TV show wouldn't translate to the special format but then again if that was the idea to begin with the whole story would be massively different. I think it could have been a success, but then again I felt that Moon Knight really tried to do way too much and that the plot got away from the writers so you know
Strongly disagree about the moon knight comparison I’m one of the few people who liked moon knight one of the few shows the worked best watching week to week. Your videos are awesome dude. I love your takes. And thanks for reviewing something I otherwise would never have heard of.
The Cosmonaut Variety Hour your the goat bro love you man
Wild that a composer directed it, yass queen get your bag
Michael Giacchino is simply the goat, This special was truly Peak Television 🙌
i was just about to come to the channel and say that you have to make a review for this movie. a breath of fresh air from marvel for sure.
thank you for this quickie content mr variety hour mendoza
For those that are not satisfied with the run time I feel you however I’ve watched a lot of 40s & 50s films with my great grandfather & a lot of those films weren’t even an hour. So I think I understand why they made it that short. Those films just put you right in the action from beginning to end.
I also hoped it was longer but there is something to be said about leaving the audience wanting more...and thats exactly what this did and I think its also part of why so many people are talking about it.
I freakin loved it, I mean I love Gael ever since he started acting
I hope Michael Giacchino makes a full 2 hour long black and white theatrical film with elsa bloodstone, jack russell werewolf by night and manthing based on characters like the Legion of Monsters or Midnight Sons
Really good fun. I enjoyed it✨
Great review.
I actually do agree with your moon knight take. A short following moonknight (fighting crime and not something stupid like giant monster fights) would be neat.
i actually think it could have been better if it had more episodes to explore his religion side or actual moon knight-ing like daredevil does
The whole story could've taken place inside of the mental hospital that way
All really want another season of Moonknight where he is just in new york fighting people brutally. I really want to see the abandoned hotel staircase scene.
I also think it would be neat to see some of the supernatural things he gets involved in, which are often smaller scale.
@@Durmomo0 if they do Another season I would only enjoy it if season one was written off as a tv show directed by Steven grant like in the books.
This shows that Music Composers have more range than normal Directors in MCU
This one hour special is a lot better than most of the stuffs Marvel put out in Phase 4 and 5, honestly
Awesome review. I still need to watch it. That said, IRON BLUE INTENTIONS, BABYYYYYY! Favorite CV track!
Loved this. Enjoyed some different things for the mcu
Bloodstone finally getting some lime light
OMG a video I have missed you very much
i'm happy you're not sick anymore!! (:
Really enjoyed seeing you on GameKnights. Hope they have you on again. It was my favorite episode of theirs in a while.
Loved their depiction of man-thing. Both visually and power-wise accurate to the comics
Welcome back, fam - glad you’re better - we missed ya
Im pretty sure this was actually originally in color, but Micheal Giachnno asked Fiege if if could be in black and white and he went with it. Giachnno talked about this on the Phase Zero Podcast.
Haven’t watched the video but ima guess he gives it a 8/10
Edit: LETS GOOO
Nice
As someone who's loved phase 4, this still stands out as one of the greats. Giacchino better get another special next year.
A little short but one of the best films I have seen in a while.
Great to see you back Marcus still doesn’t have covid isn’t sick anymore
It actually was intended to be in color, then Giacchino said "hey this would be really cool if it were in black and white"
...I am not joking.
i'm pretty sure it was giacchino always wanted it to be black and white, and shot it that way, and it took until the third cut of the special to convince fiege to let it be black and white.
Yeah, but that was before filming began. Giacchino said in an interview that they decided on black & white before filming, shot scenes in black & white and then showed it to Feige, who approved on it. After which they could film the rest that way. It's not like they filmed in color & made it black and white in post
No
I really love Werewolf by Night, but I dissagree that Moon Knight should be an hour or 2 movie. And this might sound like a fan boy but I think phase 4 had a lots new experiment and lay the ground work for 5 and 6
Exactly, Mark/Steven/Jake are three personalities within one character... No way to fit that into 2 hours.
If anything Moon Knight needed more episodes. The biggest issue with it is that it got rushed towards the end.
They should at least have another season set in new york with him established fighting street level crime or supernatural stuff on a small scale.
This was a really good Halloween Special. I liked it
An hour long moon knight special where he’s in an asylum and we’re questioning whether or not he’s actually moon knight or just batshit crazy would’ve been great
Get Giacchino on Blade. Just do it. Make it R-Rated and let him go wild. Werewolf By Night is better than the majority of stuff Marvel has done.
I think it could have been a success, but then again I felt that Moon Knight really tried to do way too much and that the plot got away from the writers so you know
This was such a pleasant surprise
YES FINALLY ANOTHER UPLOAD!!
Strongly disagree about the moon knight comparison I’m one of the few people who liked moon knight one of the few shows the worked best watching week to week. Werewolf by night was such a surprised Ted Aka Man Thing was awesome and feel like this was the best werewolf entertainment we have gotten in a long time.
The fact that a composer made a better film than an award winning director like Chloé Zhao is astonishing
chloe zhao was kinda suited better for indie movies. Getting her to direct a superhero blockbuster like the eternals was putting her completely out of her comfort zone
I liked Eternals but I’ll have to agree that Werewolf by Night is better.
I've been watching this special since it aired on Disney Plus for a full year now! And pray that this is not the last we see of this realm of the MCU because it was just such a treat(No Pun intended btw lol) for the Spioky season and definitely inspired me as a horror fan/writer and artist! 😎
Cosmonaut is back !
I think love and thunder had parts that stood out, especially with sam raimi letting his horror roots show a bit, but overall it sticks to the formula. I would've loved it if Love and Thunder stuck to that
Wrong movie, your thinking of multiverse of madness
@@SolomonFactor I was thinking of love and thinder, mixed the directors up. Taika did his horror segments very well I remember saying they reminded me of raimi
Another remarkable video from the remarkable marcus
I wasn't planning on watching this show. Thanks for the recommendation/review.
the scene where elsa muffle’s the guy while he lays there choking on his own blood is the first time a marvel movie made me feel anything beyond a cheap laugh, we need more of that.. it feels like after endgame they just started pumping up sidekicks for their own infinity wars, when they should’ve just been doing this, making marvel “cinema”
Yo uh, not to spoil too much, but the ending scene, I loved that shit!
What an absolute bro the big guy is, it was so fun!
Didn't think much of them before but man what a chill brosef
return of the king
This was just refreshing and fun
Hey! Great video, but a lil note for a comment towards the end, Michael Giachinno confirmed the entire special was filmed in 35mm film! It's actually really apparent in the final scene when the color tunes in!
i didnt know this existed but i might check out now with your blessing
I'm half a year late to the party but I still want to say this is my favorite thing from Phase 4 and one of my favorite entries to the MCU ever, I specially loved the use of physical effects and I wish they went all the way with it, I still hope they continue this trend and slowly abandon their plans to create the 'next infinity saga' or whatever, my need for super connected movies died with Tony Stark.
Loved it. Every minute is enjoyable. Man Thing huge pleasant surprise. 1st Marvel on cable i liked thru and thru
i luv’d this soo much
I'm convinced Michael Giacchino should direct the Blade movie
thanks dad
Omg Marcus is back!
You pretty much said what I thought, I needed something like werewolf by night.
Also on your concerns about shooting on film apparently he shot on digital and then ran it though 35mm film
love your videos cosmo!!!! did you watch the sandman series!! i think you’d really like it!!
