    I went into this with lower expectations. I expected it to be entertaining and a "luckily I didn't waste an hour of my day to watch this" sort of show, but I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. I absolutely loved it. I love the original monster movies. 'The Mummy', 'Bride of Frankenstein', 'Creature From the Black Lagoon', etc etc etc. This felt like a newer version of one of those. It had an old time feel to it with some great looking distortion. It was both clean and dirty at the same time. And the shot of the shadows of Jack transforming was done really, really well. But I still think my favorite is when Jack transforms and grabs Verussa Bloodstone's arm through the cage and all you see is the close-ups of her wide open frightened eyes. That sort of camera work is what helped make this feel like one of the classics. I thoroughly enjoyed this show and hope they follow through. It's funny how Universal could mess up 'The Mummy' so badly while trying to make their monster-verse, but the MCU does some random show for fun and it feels much deeper and well made.

But this is definitely not the norm for them and that's a great thing. Even better that it is a good little film. I honestly wouldn't mind them taking a stab and a whole series like this. Something in the vain of old, classic horror films but with a modern budget. I think they could do something really cool with that if Disney let them off the chain. I’m so burnt out by Marvel Studios. I grew up (and still am) a huge Marvel Comics reader and collector and I loved the earlier MCU but once they started churning out like 4 giant movies a year and a million tv shows that are all kind of “meh” I started to get worn down by it. THIS on the other hand? It looks incredible. So different from their formula and looks so unique visually and narratively. I can’t wait!

    One of the best things I appreciated about "Werewolf By Night" _was_ its brevity - any other filmmaker would have padded the story by another 15 to 20 minutes, to set up each character.
    Background information about everyone, including Elsa, was unnecessary. We've all seen those movies before.
    It may have only been been 52 minutes long but there was a feature's worth of content on display.
    Feige was so impressed by the success of "Werewolf By Night" that he's planning to do more One-Shots on Disney+ rather than extended miniseries.

  • @haldand
    @haldand Před rokem

    I may be in the minority here, but I appreciated the one hour format. They simply took the required time to tell the story, without either padding it or rushing it. No unnecessary and or uninteresting scenes to stretch it. No cramming massive amounts of exposition to squish a longer narrative into a required time frame. The story ends when it ends, and the audience walks away with a much better overall experience, (in my opinion).

    Yeah I felt that too. It was over too soon. This movie was good, looked great but nothing really far from what Disney actually makes, that's what I felt. This technique of filming was a great way to bypass that gore and violence, which "I felt" could have been more that we got.

    I hope that the MCU is finally getting the hint that not all of their projects need to be integrated with one another and have the same (flat) visual style that the first three phases had. They tested the waters with WandaVision a little, and now seem to be leaning into it a little more with Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. These projects are, after all, based on comic books which vary in genre, tone, and style. It’s time to fully embrace that again. The “grounded” thing had its time, and we can let it go.
