    I am 64 in age and I say this is the best camper I have ever seen so far. Here in New Zealand camper touring is popular, 🪲most of the old ones are on Japanese forward control 2 tonne chassis. The latest models are the now very popular Fiat chassis, and Mercedes-Benz too. The crew cab arrangement on your camper makes it the best, as on the drive its as handy as a car with everyone properly seated as in a car for that grand tour.🐸
    On the mechanical side, if all the bearings, seals and whatever that moves is in order than it should give plenty of trouble free motoring. It is a simple vehicle, no computers to go wrong here! 🐞

    If I were you I'd keep the truck red and paint the inside the same color of red. IDK I like the look of the red on the truck it looks like it came from the factory that way and It looks really clean like its only a few years old and still shiny. I think It would ruin the originality of the truck if it got repainted. thats just my opinion but you can do what you want with it brother.

    What a time capsule. My father had a 72 F-250 that he pulled a 28" fifth wheel. The original 360 would do the job, but over the Thanksgiving holidays we injected a 390 FE between the frame rails. What a difference in torque, adding a cheap set of Doug's headers also added to a great truck. He said better gas mileage too. I wouldn't change a thing on your camper, because it's only original once. You'll be surprised how many people will walk up to an original, compared to a new unit.

  • @orl2222
    @orl2222 Před 8 měsíci +2

    I have fond memories of my Dad's 72 F250 XLT with a 390. When my Father passed away in 1990, I put a new engine it, and had it running great. One day I came home and it was gone. My mother had given it to my older brother saying he needed it. After that the truck was never taken care of, rust started to eat into it,(I live in Southern California) this should have never happened! I was only 12 when my father bought it new from freeway ford in east LA. They often say the youngest child is spoiled, (me) but my brother the oldest was the spoiled one.

  • @murdiesel
    @murdiesel Před 8 měsíci +3

    Gotta have the crew approve of it, lol! I got 3 daughters of my own and trust me they become more like 3 wives, lol! Open that 390 up and let her breathe! Duals, headers (If possible), 4bbl/performer, fin some bucket seats and a cooler as a console! Sweet trucks out and camper in!

    I'd definitely leave it red. If you wanted green, I'd swap the motor home part over to the green F350 from TX, then get that truck's bed painted red and install it on this one. You'd probably have to swap the dually rear end to the green truck and put the single into this truck. Drivetrain-wise, maybe do the Holley Sniper FI, and either swap to a ZF 5-speed, like what Craig has in his '86 F250, or find a good E40D and convert to an automatic, which might make more sense for roadtripping purposes. Other option would be the Gear Vendors Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. On that, I'd install a lockout switch so it can only be engaged in 4th gear, though. I've actually blown up one of those in a 1983 Volvo 240 Turbo by accidentally engaging reverse when it was engaged. I would keep it rear wheel drive. With all the weight on the rear, it should have decent traction, if you ever wind up being in an area with snow.

    Beautiful. One thing I would do, is swap out the blue battery isolater for a continuous duty solenoid. Our family had a auto electric shop since 1938. Those have diodes inside and are very prone to pop. A continuous duty solenoid is like a ford starter solenoid. Only very heavy duty. We used to swap them out all the time. Good camping.

    Both truck and camper look to be in mostly original and very good condition considering their age. If the truck is original paint, I would keep it. If it's not original, paint away. I suspect that the green in the camper is not original but would have been stained wood paneling originally. And I've got my doubts about that A/C unit on the camper being original as well as that toilet. But there is nothing wrong with going for some more modern amenities. If you plan to use it for camping in cold climates I'd recommend installing a modern furnace in the camper if that roof mounted A/C doesn't also provide heat.

    Make absolutely sure you go over the fuel system on that truck...every hose and connection from the tank to the engine. That thing catches on fire it'll go up quick. Travel with a good fire extinguisher in both the camper and the cab. Some people here on the 'Tube have bought these older vehicles without doing that and they've gone up in flames. Brakes and fuel...do that before anything else.

    After getting it mechanically sound, and fixing the cosmetic damage, I'd install high quality LED headlights and tail lights. That green interior color in the camper was very popular in the 70s but I think it would look much better with a more modern interior . Keep it retro but still add some up to date touches. I wouldn't repaint the cab but I'd definitely add some stripes to the camper's exterior section that would match the cab. It is probably ruff on gas so I'd consider a modern powertrain to help with fuel mileage and reliability. Depending on your budget of course. But maybe a diesel.

It had a 360, but I guess the 390 was available. Great truck, but sadly it was totaled by a semi in '82 (he got out without a scratch). I did not see the frame on your '72. If you're not use to driving something that sticks that far out past the rear axle take some time getting use to it. The tail swing (how far the rear of camper swings out in the opposite direction truck is turning) could prove challenging, especially in tight right turns. She will also be a tail dragger so watch those road dips and transitions to driveways, parking lots, etc. And if not use to driving taller vehicles, measure it's height at highest point, then add a foot. This will be the minimum clearance you'll want for tunnels, going under bridges, etc. With so many videos out there showing trucks hitting low bridges, hanging wires, etc. We're all just one forgetful moment away from joining them. So you'll want to develop a habit of always noting clearance warning signs, posted height restrictions, even when not driving the truck. Between the tail length, upper and lower clearance issues, and how much campers flex on uneven ground (which causes leaks along seems) I would not recommend much off-roading. All that said, it looks like a fun rig for adventuring with family and friends. Plus can also double as your home away from home if like me, you live where weather and/or wildfires force evacuations. Keeping it stocked with food, clothes, kids toys, etc., saves time when seconds count.

    Ha ha love your wife's reaction not my style . My wife would have had the same reaction. I love it, paint the interior white or white ever you choose, recover seat cushions and it will brighten it up. solar panels on the roof and some batteries plus electrics and good to go

    All three of those trucks appear to be in excellent shape. I can tell the pickup is a 1977 as it has orange turn signal lights. The yellow one must be '73 to '75, but I have never seen anything like it before. It is similar to an Excursion although goes back earlier. What model of Ford would it be?

    Keep it as is, don’t change the color of truck or inside the camper. Add a red stripe to side of camper like you suggested.
