      For the price you're better off buying a Wera Tool check set (probably metric) to cover that area. On Amazon the 711 costs close to a dedicated Toolcheck that can handle A LOT more use cases. The ratchet is probably a lot better too and comes with an extension bit, not to mention a variety of bits and some sockets. I own the Wave+, Surge (current gen), a Charge+ TTI, and a modified Charge TTI. If you wanted to spend a bit extra you could get the Metric and Imperial Toolchecks to cover everything you will possibly need regarding many fasteners types. I love Leathermans but also like to get the most for my money. I guess it also boils down to how much you want to EDC. The 711 looks awesome though. I only complain about the price. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy 3 of them on principle alone.

    Wonderful video as always ZapWizard! I can't wait to order the standard Arc holster with the Barnicle bit add-on. Having both the Leatherman Ratchet Driver and 711 Ratchet on the holster is genius as I currently carry both with my G10 Charge+ Leatherman nylon holster along with the WiHa Double Sided (77781 & 77782) Bits. The one thing I wish you would add to your store is the full feature set of your Arc holster to the Charge G10/TTI holster as the mods I've made to my G10 Charge+ improve upon the stock Arc tools for my use case. I also prefer the comfort of the G10 Charge+ in use so far compared to the Arc. I would 100% purchase both holsters (at least 2 -3 G10 Charge+ versions and 1 Arc) from you so I could grab and go with whichever tool I wanted/needed for that day.

      Supposedly the cutter inserts crack easily if you try to cut hard wire like a coat hanger. I used mine to cut .035 welding wire. No issue. But that is thinner than a coat hanger.

    Edit: By looking at my set up, what I would like is a holster with the main blade with the thumbstud facing the back of the holster, tip up. That allows the pocket clip to be installed, facing outwards. Is that an option that would be available?

    • @michaelfuentes8101
      @michaelfuentes8101 Před 9 měsíci +1

      oh and one other random thing i've been thinking, it would be really cool to have a couple of holes that you can screw a spare set of wire cutters or EOD wire cutters somewhere on the sheath. Although i can imagine fitting them would be a little difficult. if i was making it i'd either try just drilling 2 holes or having 2 HEx Nut shaped holes in the body. this way you could glue the nuts in and be able to crew them in without damage to the holster.

    I just really want the spring loaded pliers. I know, I know "not as strong" and all that. But it's plenty strong for anything I would use it for, I highly doubt that I am strong enough to break it even if I tried. But I hate having to pull pliers back open or have them flop around all loose. I wonder how feasible it would be to attach magnets in such a way as to create a magnetic spring force rather than a mechanical spring.

    • @ZapWizard
      @ZapWizard  Před 7 měsíci

      Swapping a Garage #005 with the ARC pliers is the only way to get spring loaded on the ARC. I am not sure there is a spot where you could put two magnets to oppose each other strong enough to force the pliers apart, especially since force falls off exponentially with distance.

    the only problem I see with my new Arc is that when you use the tools the edges are pretty sharp. not so much with the plyers. I am compareing it to my charge +tti. the titanium on it is nicely rounded everywhere. I don't need the little tiny screw driver on either of them. Probably the reason they didn't make the scissors longer on the arc, was to keep manufacturing costs down. If you use the same scissors in every tool you grab and go verses having to make sure you have the correct scissors with the correct product.

    Almost everything about your garage 5 holster is perfect for the ARC. The only thing i would like to see changed is #1 a slot for the bit extender next to the slot for the 711L ratchet driver. Unfortunately IDK if the ratchet driver slot is really viable anymore as the Leatherman ratchet driver is AWOL and people are now asking Leatherman Surge level pricing for a new Leatherman 931030 ratchet driver and the lowest ive been able to find it is around $50 and have absolutely no plans to publicly say where my source is because i don't need that well to dry out 😢.

    • @ZapWizard
      @ZapWizard  Před 9 měsíci

      I will see if I can make something that fits both options.

    • @user117
      @user117 Před 9 měsíci

      @@ZapWizardthat would be awesome. While I can appreciate the multibit slot IMO the extender, 711L, and the ratchet driver are the big 3 accessories for the ARC outside of the obvious bits themselves and with the amount of bits your holster seems to hold in the back alone almost everyone should already have almost every one of their most commonly used bits anyways. Originally when I ordered my ARC and the #1 but kits as extras/replacements I tried finding a leather holster that would hold both the ARC and the entire bit kits as I'm more of a completely unexposed buckle cover guy myself but absolutely nothing exists that can hold the entire bit kits and a Leatherman without it being either crazy bulky or in the end being 2 separate holsters, 1 being for the Leatherman itself and the 2nd being the entire bit kit and I honestly don't mind 2 side by side or left/right hip belt holsters the added pricing to buy both and have them not look like 2 completely different manufacturers/product lines just got to be more expensive than what is now the absolute most expensive Leatherman multitool mass produced. I also appreciate that Leatherman actually spent the last 2 days updating their website listing the ARC as a compatible multitool or not with their already existing accessories they only updated that information to accessories added within the last year and completely ignored almost all of their sheaths. The entire ARC reddits are just spammed with questionable yes or no information on what sheaths fit the ARC and I don't see any of the big name aftermarket sheath makers ready and in production of anything for the ARC yet. I love that you covered the AMA content. I'd really love to know if moving forward on whatever their next product(s) they would be more open and responsive to sharing the needed specs of in development products with aftermarket or 3rd party products/accessories makers like yourself or at least larger ones. I absolutely love the development they put into the ARC but it's borderline an insult to give a cheap recycled from an older product nylon sheath with a PREMIUM level multitool. I really can't understand what their thinking process is since multitools are geared towards people working in trades and those people are often exposed to sparks and flames that can (yes it's happened to me) ignite or at least burn from exposure. While I know your 3D printed sheath runs the same risk at least with it being solid nylon fiber printing and not woven fabric sparks and small flames should roll off or be resisted long enough to avoid major disaster. I wish I could have chimed I. On the AMA that they need to offer flame retardant sheaths if they want to continue offering woven sheaths as the new norm

      The only issue is the saw is 0.07" thick (so is the file), and the P4 Serrated Blade os 0.10" thick. So you would have to remove one of the thin implements on the same side (or move things around), and then add some shims to build the thickness back up.

      Probably just the magnacut steel in the blade. It’s a premium steel right now, and it’s on the hottest new leatherman so it’s gonna be expensive regardless.
      I should say, I have an arc. It’s really good and I like it a lot. But there are somethings I would change right off the bat. Stronger detent on the bit changer, both micro bit and standard bit, a 90° bit driver would be AWESOME. I would also love to see a way to “lock” the pliers half open so you can use it as one big long screwdriver, like you can do on most models including the Bond and Wave +. The other handle kinda floppin around during normal use is a little annoying but it still get the job done.

    Got my Arc. Probably going to send it back for a refund though. Blade came ridiculously unfinished, frame flexes like an Ozark Trail when gripping a bolt or using it to turn on a broken faucet at work, and I've now seen four videos about the wire cutters breaking when cutting a wire coat hanger which is essentially fence wire (super soft. Even Gerber's garbage carbide cutters can cut fence/hanger wire). I'm definitely not impressed by this thing, which makes me sad because when I first saw it, I thought it would be perfect as a tool for my motorcycle's compact onboard tool kit (my lightweight adventure bike is a DRZ400 with limited space in the tail/saddlebags) but from my experience and what I've seen here on CZcams, I'm afraid to trust it at home, much less in the wilderness where it could literally be the difference between riding home or pushing my bike till someone with a truck shows up which could be days if I go on rides like the Trans-America Trail. Sadly, the Arc has proven to be a waste of $230 so far. I do like your carrier designs though. Might have to grab a few for some of my other tools

    • @ZapWizard
      @ZapWizard  Před 9 měsíci +6

      Physical Vapor Deposition isn't spray paint. It is using plasma to atomize (actual atoms, not drops like paint) carbon in a vacuum. The atoms then deposit on the steel and a thickness is built up that is very pure carbon. The bond is much stronger than any solvent paint or even ceramic paint can do (Which effectively glue particles to a surface). PVD is used quite a bit in industry for example to put a hard outer coat onto kitchen faucets.
