    Very true, taking the club back behind & getting off plane is such an unnatural movement when chipping, it's startling how many golfers suffer from it as I used to, the club throwing drill makes a lot of sense in making people understand the correct plane that they should be on, thanks Adam, great work.

    Another great video Adam, I believe you're one of the best teachers on the web and it's no surprise you're TOTY, now 3 times I believe so congratulations for that.
    I have a question if you don't mind. That action of pulling the club inside too far is so destructive as you say, so why do people do it, what are the most likely causes, do you believe?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  Před 5 lety

      Thanks James, glad you like the videos.
      Hard to say why it’s so common, but two likely reasons are loss os sense of where the target is, and “taking” the club back with the hands.
      Hope this helps.

    Thank You for all your Videos! Our course has deep grass just off the green except for the fairway. by deep I mean 3" deep. I am mostly in this deep grab when I'm close to the green. I can't seem to get under the ball so I either blade it and hit across the green to the deep grass on the other side or i get under it and the grass slowed my club enough that the ball goes a few feet and is still in the deep grass! This scenario is killing my score. On a par 5, I may be10 feet from the green, then I chip 3-4 times ending with a 6 or 7 on that hole. Can you help me with this?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  Před 4 lety +1

    For the right hang golfer, should your left shoulder feel completely relaxed, and lower than your right shoulder, or slightly tensed and even with your right shoulder?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  Před 6 lety +1

      Brian,
      What people 'feel' is not definitive (I need to feel completely relaxed and low in left shoulder to achieve a neutral look for example), rather what happens. I'd say on a chip the left shoulder would be a little higher than the right, and only moderate tension.
      Hope this helps.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy

      Thanks for the question. On a greenside chip I fell the wrists should be passive, not rigid but passive. Whatever angle you have in the back of the left wrist your grip gives you at address should be pretty much maintained throughout the stroke. Hope this helps a bit.

      Thomas,
      I assume you mean right palm facing target as you go through impact? If so It's a fair mental picture, or cue. While it wouldn't hold true shortly after impact as ther would be some degree of arc to the stroke.
      Hope this helps.
      Best, Adam.

      well, the little chips 10-20 feet from the green keep the right palm pointed at the target.

      Thomas,
      That seems like a good mental picture for you, so I'd stick with it. It's not necessary to have an exact parallel between the physics of what the club (and body) are doing, and what we are feeling (or keying on) when we swing.
      All the best, Adam

      You're right it is probably more of a swing thought and mental picture. I'm just not trying to roll the club open to close on those little chips. Those little chips can play head games. 6 hdcp.

    When you adjust for the uphill chip, do you not adjust the shoulders, too? I notice the forward lean, as you proscribed but when I do this, I seem to stab the club into the ground. Also, what is the relationship of the handle to up and down lies, if any ? I want to thank you, for all the videos that you have done, it's nice to find something that will help me in my golf game and I have found many, in your teaching. Thanks , John Lamb

      +John Lamb John, thanks very much, glad you' enjoyed the videos. Yes, I'd adjust everything (including slope of shoulders) when uphill or downhill. Picture a photo of the face on view of your chipping address, then picture tilting the whole photo up or downhill to suit the case.

    Most of us amateurs don’t land in the ‘short grass’ when pitching or chipping on the green . . Show us what to do in the ‘long’ grass!

    Putt from those positions every time, much less unreliable.

      Depends on the skill level of the golfer, but thanks for the comment.

      @@Scratchgolfacademy thanks. I used to be able to chip and pitch, but have developed the yips over the last few years, that several lessons from different pros and endless practice have not helped with at all. Practice shots are good, but I can’t repeat the stroke when the ball is there. Is killing my game.
