I have been skulling the ball around the green recently Adam, looking forward to work on these to start getting better Chips and Pitches - thanks a million - Tim
Just took the lessons from this video to the practice ground and had one of the best chip/pitch/bunker sessions ever. With greater understanding of what and why I was trying to achieve, my consistency and ball striking went to a whole new level. Thanks Adam.

Very true, taking the club back behind & getting off plane is such an unnatural movement when chipping, it's startling how many golfers suffer from it as I used to, the club throwing drill makes a lot of sense in making people understand the correct plane that they should be on, thanks Adam, great work.
Thanks very much Carlos.

Hope this helps you Adam. Thanks for the comment

Thank you for the tips, my problem the ball goes to the right, and definitely hitting behind the ball, it also feels like I am stabbing the club in the ground, I usually use a A wedge or pitching wedge.
Joseph,
Hard to help without seeing you, but lots of little practice swings until you have a consistent brush of the ground will help.
Best, Adam
Excellent explanation of chip and pitching.
Thanks Tony, glad you found it helpful.

Should I ever have sufficiently poor judgement to throw a club during a round, I can always say that Adam told me to! ;-) Once again, wonderful insightful and easy to grasp instruction. I'm off now to wear out my wedges armed with your sagely wisdom. Many thanks from Sydney, Aust - David
Thanks again David, keep plugging!

Adam's pitfall #2 advice has the potential to reduce global anxiety, the number of grown men crying mid-game (I have witnessed this phenomenon), will save marriages and perhaps even lives etc.! After cleanly contacting dozens of short chips today thanks to this video (returning to the game after about 10 years - was once off low-mid singles), I feel like a new man (in the words of Kevin Spacey). Thank you kind sir - I am so grateful! Cheers - David
Thanks very much David. Very pleased you are making good progress!

Not sure if you’ll see this as this is a late comment, but I just went outside and hit a few balls like you did in the video, and I’m proud to say that I was satisfied with each one . Thank you so much!

best videos online
Much appreciated!
Another great video Adam, I believe you're one of the best teachers on the web and it's no surprise you're TOTY, now 3 times I believe so congratulations for that.
I have a question if you don't mind. That action of pulling the club inside too far is so destructive as you say, so why do people do it, what are the most likely causes, do you believe?
Thanks James, glad you like the videos.
Hard to say why it’s so common, but two likely reasons are loss os sense of where the target is, and “taking” the club back with the hands.
Hope this helps.
Best, Adam
Adam,
I have developed the shanks. Even with short chip shots. Do you any videos addressing this deadly move? Thanks for all.
Sorry you're struggling. Yes, there is a video at this channel on shanks, I hope it helps.
Best, Adam
very helpful
Thanks Mervyn, glad it was helpful for you.

Great vid
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful to you.

I used to have a solid chipping and pitching game until I went to the driving range and for no good reason hit my short irons off the rubber tees. In one afternoon I completely destroyed my short game. I am going to use your tips to help me get it back. Now I top or severely slice the ball just off the green which is extremely frustrating. Thanks.
Best of luck with it Mark.
Thanks, Adam
Hey Adam,do you have a video with approach shots from 120 yards an in
Victor,
I have several videos at the channel on pitching, hope you find them helpful.
All the best, Adam
Thank You for all your Videos! Our course has deep grass just off the green except for the fairway. by deep I mean 3" deep. I am mostly in this deep grab when I'm close to the green. I can't seem to get under the ball so I either blade it and hit across the green to the deep grass on the other side or i get under it and the grass slowed my club enough that the ball goes a few feet and is still in the deep grass! This scenario is killing my score. On a par 5, I may be10 feet from the green, then I chip 3-4 times ending with a 6 or 7 on that hole. Can you help me with this?
Robert,
At www.scratchgolfacademy.com I offer full video courses, one of them is called 'Trouble shots around the green' that would address this. You might think of it more like a bunker shot.
Best, Adam
I'm really gaining a lot from your videos, Mr B............... just a note........ we know that you are a two-time PGA teacher of the year , by now...... you don't have to remind us every time you present yourself. Thanks for the help. Well done.
Thanks Otto.
All the best, Adam
Otto kriete a totally uncalled for comment on a free and such informative channel! If i were 2 time pga teacher of the year id let you know every time!
What about tossing clubs in water features? Or over fences after a bad round? Will this help? Asking for a friend.
Doubt it.
Best, Adam
For the right hang golfer, should your left shoulder feel completely relaxed, and lower than your right shoulder, or slightly tensed and even with your right shoulder?
Brian,
What people 'feel' is not definitive (I need to feel completely relaxed and low in left shoulder to achieve a neutral look for example), rather what happens. I'd say on a chip the left shoulder would be a little higher than the right, and only moderate tension.
Hope this helps.
Best, Adam
"Pretty good shot". That was a beautiful shot.
Thanks very much!
Best, Adam
SUBBED. Simple. Easy to remember when shithoused.
Glad you liked the video
Nice
Thanks
You should do course vlogs like 9 hole games or something
Thanks. At home website www.scratchgolfacademy.com I'm thinking about that. There are already quite a few elements of course management in the courses there.
Best, Ada,
Milhouse Van Houten h
Great idea! Course management is critical to scoring 'better'. Good to understand the 'thought process' and to understand 'percentage shots'. You're the teacher to demonstrate it Adam!
Greg von Seeger zzzz
Question: how tight/ or not should your grip be around the green?
Somewhat optional Robert, but since the club isn’t moving very fast I’d vote for not very tight
Best, Adam
Adam, do you play the ball back in your stance on a downhill lie?
Yes, I'd play it back a bit Keith.
Best, Adam
Awesome video! For all the amateurs out there, if you can putt it...do not chip it...putt it :)
Thanks very much, and glad you liked the video.
All the best, Adam
Would you explain how to change from bent to flat wrist in very short chipping shot? A lot of drill out there with dragging left hand, punch, etc whatever, but mostly i could do is cutting the ball dragging, chopling down. Thnks!
Thanks for the question. On a greenside chip I fell the wrists should be passive, not rigid but passive. Whatever angle you have in the back of the left wrist your grip gives you at address should be pretty much maintained throughout the stroke. Hope this helps a bit.
Best, Adam
Scratch Golf Academy Wow, it is the point. Appreciating, sir!
Thank you. Where is your academy
Thanks. I teach in Naples, Florida at a club called Mediterra. You can see more information about instruction at www.adambgolf.com
All the best, Adam
If you are short sided, what club do you use to chip?
Jancen, typically your most lofted wedge.
Best, Adam
4:29 HaHa Nice one, Sir.
Thanks, just popped out of my mouth.
Best, Adam
On another Golf Channel they said that when you make contact with the ball playing a small little Chip like this that the speed of the club head should stay the same from backswing to forward swing as I tend to slow down when I hit the ball and then sometimes I hit fat
Johnny,
There should be a natural build up of speed (pendulum) reaching top speed at impact, then a gradual deceleration. Try for smooth tempo, and hopefully you'll see some improvement.
All the best, Adam
@@Scratchgolfacademy thanks Adam, appreciate your time to reply, I'll try that, all the best
What number club for pitch or chip?? Thanks
Optional, wide range of choices.
All the best, Adam
liked it
Thanks Tom, glad it was helpful to you.

I have asked in the comments of another video .. I can not hinge my right wrist in any direction I have a metal bar attached from middle finger to top of for arm under the flesh and I want to play golf as a hobby is there away to compensate this at all
Chad Law play lefty it’s critical to be able to hinge your wrist
❤❤❤
👍⛳️
Love that shirt
Thanks, and thanks also for watching the video.
Best, Adam
So Adam, to simplify, from green side the set up and mechanics are the same but the club selection is what alters the type of shot you will hit, correct?!? I think this is where my 'over analyzing' is hurting me...Thanks.
Todd,
There are different ways to go about it, but yes, I'd agree with what you say.
All the best, Adam
It took me 3 yrs to learn to pitch. I rolled the face over (never do that) and i had too much leg movement (never do that!).
Quiet legs and dont roll the face over.
Thanks for the comment.

The Bob Ross of Golf.
Ha! I happen to like Bob Ross, so I appreciate the comparison.
All the best, Adam
How much does it cost to play a round with you and have you help me break 90.
Mike,
Thanks for the note. If you go to www.adambgolf.com (book a lesson tab) there is info there about lessons.
Hope to meet you sometime.
Best, Adam
Don't know if you've heard this drill ? Grab the club 6 inches or so from the bottom and keep it of your hips on the follow through. Good one for keeping on plane and working the shoulders properly
Thanks Bill, sounds like a good drill.
Best, Adam
I noticed that your lead foot is flared out a little bit. Is this critical to the follow through?
Greg,
I wouldn't say it's critical, but it can help you turn through it a bit. Try it and see how it feels to you.
Best, Adam
Great drills nothing esoteric... thank you.
With all the club tossing I do you'd think I'd be a great chipper and pitcher lol
Ha! Keep plugging
Best, Adam
Hi
Thanks for watching the video.
Best, Adam
Last time I tossed a club the dam head fell of 😂
Hang in there!
Best, Adam
I always hit it and it goes flat on the ground way past the hole.
Ryan,
Sounds like you are thinning it (hitting ball with front edge of clubface). I hope you can make some progress.
Best, Adam
T
Glad it was helpful to you Steven.
Best, Adam
Brunton says keep your right palm facing the target.
Runyon
Thomas,
I assume you mean right palm facing target as you go through impact? If so It's a fair mental picture, or cue. While it wouldn't hold true shortly after impact as ther would be some degree of arc to the stroke.
Hope this helps.
Best, Adam.
well, the little chips 10-20 feet from the green keep the right palm pointed at the target.
Thomas,
That seems like a good mental picture for you, so I'd stick with it. It's not necessary to have an exact parallel between the physics of what the club (and body) are doing, and what we are feeling (or keying on) when we swing.
All the best, Adam
You're right it is probably more of a swing thought and mental picture. I'm just not trying to roll the club open to close on those little chips. Those little chips can play head games. 6 hdcp.
When you adjust for the uphill chip, do you not adjust the shoulders, too? I notice the forward lean, as you proscribed but when I do this, I seem to stab the club into the ground. Also, what is the relationship of the handle to up and down lies, if any ? I want to thank you, for all the videos that you have done, it's nice to find something that will help me in my golf game and I have found many, in your teaching. Thanks , John Lamb
+John Lamb John, thanks very much, glad you' enjoyed the videos. Yes, I'd adjust everything (including slope of shoulders) when uphill or downhill. Picture a photo of the face on view of your chipping address, then picture tilting the whole photo up or downhill to suit the case.
Best, Adam
I'm a great golfer. I toss clubs all the time.
Hang in there!
Best, Adam
Ha ha. Throwing a club in the house. Otherwise good stuff
Thanks Bill!
Most of us amateurs don’t land in the ‘short grass’ when pitching or chipping on the green . . Show us what to do in the ‘long’ grass!
Thanks Brian, I'll try to get to that.
All the best, Adam
Putt from those positions every time, much less unreliable.
Depends on the skill level of the golfer, but thanks for the comment.
Best, Adam
@@Scratchgolfacademy thanks. I used to be able to chip and pitch, but have developed the yips over the last few years, that several lessons from different pros and endless practice have not helped with at all. Practice shots are good, but I can’t repeat the stroke when the ball is there. Is killing my game.
