- The Sengoku period Battle of Anegawa (姉川の戦い Anegawa no Tatakai) (30 July 1570) occurred near Lake Biwa in Ōmi Province, Japan, between the allied forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu, against the combined forces of the Azai and Asakura clans. It is notable as the first battle that involved the alliance between Nobunaga and Ieyasu, liberated the Oda clan from its unbalanced alliance with the Azai, and saw Nobunaga's prodigious use of firearms. Nobunaga's loyal retainer, Toyotomi Hideyoshi was assigned to lead troops into open battle for the first time.
The battle came as a reaction to Oda Nobunaga's sieges of the castles of Odani and Yokoyama, which belonged to the Azai and Asakura clans. I remember that when I finished the battle in the river I had three units left to take the castle, but Nobunaga’s army was full because he hadn’t done anything.
You had 3 units left and Nobunaga had full? In my battle I had 1 unit left and Nobunaga 0
the plain battle should kill off like two unit of ashigaru, nothing more.. you should outrange the rocket and try to kill off as many enemy as possible before charging the rocket. have samurai on your flanks to make sure the forest cav doesnt mess up your bow/charging unit

I wish this game had a realistic version of Odani. It was actually a pretty extensive complex along a horseshoe-shaped mountain range. Hopefully someone has modded a map of it.
Shogun 2 is the best combat systuem ever from total war. The battles are brutal and bloody with proper fight animations

the animations in this game were so epic.. wish they did this with the infantry combat in warhammer. the animations in warhammer are great but i think the only unique ones come from lords/heroes/monster units which is a bit disappointing.
must say that old Shogun in my opinnion have better graphicthan new total wars

Big mistake to build castle walls that can easily be so climbed. Some strange battle formations too. Very odd. But interesting. Well done, very original presentation.
i see so many frontal charges and so few other tactics. there is so much that can be done, if these recreations are accurate then the generals suffered from a lack of imagination, i used to play the total war series and would run rings around most players
I don`t know whether my answer is still actual today. But yes, I agree with you. I don`t think that Nobunaga attacked a yari wall with cavalry this way.

Nice graphic but historically in accurate. Nobunaga and Ieyasu won the battle but they did not attack Otani Castle and Azai Nagamasa was not killed there. He died much later.

It's not a bag but a folded cloak made from several strips of cloth. It inflates and absorbs the impact from arrows when the rider retreats.
