    5:11 The width will expand to show the driver the current following distance before they make a selection to either increase it or decrease. I thought it was useful so I could easily see how many bars of following distance I was currently on before making changes.

    You can also set a max speed on the cruise control system (I have a 2021 CX-5) eg. 50mph & you basically drive the car but it wont let you go above 50mph - I guess to save on getting tickets

  • @paullelys161

    I totally agree.
    You paid for the technology so take the time to read the manual even if only a section at a time to familiarize yourself with all the many amazing things that can help make your driving experience safer for you and those around you.
    Many things can be turned off or adjusted to your specific driving needs and hopefully help in an emergency situation if you have a lapse in concentration.
    A couple of things can be annoying or even irritating but mostly I'm very happy with my CX-5.

    Good video. One thing to note is that it is stated in the beginning of the video that the Mode/On button turns the system on and off but it does not turn the system off. I believe you have to click twice on the cancel/off button to shut it off. Also, can you please explain how to change the CC system to the regular non radar cruise control.

      I think to change it to the regular cruise control, you turn it on like normal and then hold the on button down for a few seconds until it tells you that the CC has been deactivated. I saw this from a 2021 cx-5 video and I'm assuming it's the same for the 23's

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  Před rokem

      The main thing the traffic jam assist does is control the steering to keep you centered in the lane at certain speeds if the car's camera can read the lane lines. This 2023 CX-5 was not equipped with that feature

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  Před rokem +3

      It will accelerate to the maximum speed you have set it to, until it comes up to a vehicle going slower than that speed, then it will lock on the that car. But this is where you driving the car comes in, because it will not recognize stop signs, red lights, or dead stopped traffic. So hit the brakes if any of those things are evident

    Hi Dietrich, greeting from New Zealand. First off, thank you for your videos. I watched you Subaru video too. I have a choice to get a Subaru O isutback 2021 , Mazda MX30 2022 or a RAV4 GXL Hybrid 2021. Both the Outback and RAV4 are used with 30,000km and 10,000km mileage respectively while the Mazda will be brand new. In your opinion, which of the adaptive cruise control system and safety features works best between them? Is the Eyesight better at the task since it has 2 cameras vs the Mazda and Toyota? Please share your expert opinion and experience.

    • @CarDietrich
      @CarDietrich  Před rokem

      Hello Ramon, strictly in terms of the Adaptive Cruise Control and active safety features, I think Subaru's Eyesight is better than the systems Toyota or Mazda use. I don't know if its because Subaru uses two cameras, but I would actually say Subaru's adaptive cruise control works the best of any brand I've tried. But with that being said Toyota's and Mazda's systems both work fine, so I wouldn't tell you to eliminate those other cars just based on that. Since you are comparing used and new cars you have to take the condition and service history of the used cars into account. You also have to consider differences in fuel economy, size, utility, etc. And of course, at the end of the day the heart wants what it wants, so I'm sure there's one of them you want the most. I hope an obvious choice emerges and you're happy with the car once you buy it. Thank you for watching.

      @@CarDietrich Hi Dietrich, thank you again for your kind advise. They are all company cars. My current XTrail STL 2019 is up for renewal so technically, I can opt for a new car at similar value like the Mazda MX30 or Forester E-Boxer Hybrid. I've always wanted a Forester however, there's a waitlist at Subaru for the Forester. So, my company has proposed my workmate's Outback or RAV4 Hybrid. If I choose their old car, they will get the new Mazda MX30. It's kinda like musical chairs. 🤣 I think based off your reply, I just might go with the Outback because of Eyesight unless some miraculous reason a new Forester E-Boxer becomes available. Tough question because Toyota has done so many versions of their system over and the years, and Mazda doesn’t make the 6 anymore. A brand new Corolla has a slightly more sophisticated system than the last Mazda6, but it’s not really a fair comparison since the 6 went out of production a couple years ago

    I prefer to use the basic cruise control without the radar features. I know that to do that you have to hold the MODE button for 3 seconds (assuming the system is on) until a beep is heard an an indication on the dash is seen. However, this only deactivates the radar functions until the car is turned off. It then reverts to the radar cruise control again when the car is re-started. So it has to be deactivated every time I start the car. Is anyone aware of a way to permanently deactivate the radar functions of the cruise control?

      @@CarDietrich Well that explains it. I bought a new Mazda cx5 after having a Honda CRV for many years that did not have this technology. I get a little frustrated on the freeway when people seem to be braking waaaaay prematurely vs just taking their foot off the gas to slow down a little, which suffices in many cases and avoids the domino effect that braking has on all the cars around you. Now I realize it must be the newer cars doing it using this technology!
