Both Bebop and Champloo owe a lot to Lupin(1971) since Watanabe sited it as a big influence for both series. CB in particular since the main trio is heavily inspired by Lupin, Jigen, and Fukijo. The same can probably be said for the main trio of Champloo but is more obvious in Bebop.
Tsukasa Hojo was heavily inspired by Lupin as well. In the Cat's Eye manga there's a character called Kamiya/The Rat whose design and personality was heavily by Lupin. He also served as the inspiration for Ryo's character.
City Hunter was basically 80s, Lupin. Ryo, Saeko and Umibozu are basically Lupin, Fujiko and Jigen just like Spike, Jet, and Faye.
And finally Lupin was probably the first adult oriented anime so is pretty important.

    • @THEAnimeHERO

  • @iliaschaikalis8579
    @iliaschaikalis8579 Před 3 lety +9

I think thought the years you can present Lupin on a scale of 1-5
    1: Castle of Cagliostro Lupin
    -Doesn't kill
    -Goofy but mature
-Most heroic and less pervy version of the character
-Will risk his life just to help a woman without any treasure involved and not as a means to hit on the woman
-Loves and protects women and helps expose violent and evil crooks
    2: Part 2 Lupin
-Dislikes killing, will only do so in self defence
    -Very goofy but still kindhearted
-Very pervy (constantly gets rejected) but still loves and protects women
-Steals moslty for the thrill of it but doesn't mind helping others too
    3: Part 1 Lupin
-Will only kill in self defence but doesn't mind the act
-Still goofy but overall more serious and invested in his work
-Slightly less pervy but still preety horny and with a soft spot for women
-Steals cause he needs a challenge, rarely helps others
    -Runs a crime syndicate
    4:TWCFM/Koike Trilogy Lupin:
-Will kill without the slightest hesitation
    -Less goofy, more badass
    -Very unhinged
-Spends his free time fucking and drinking
-Steals to challenge himself and cause he's bored, doesn't help others
-He cares for Jigen and Goemon but they are mostly partners and not friends, and although he cares for Fujiko he doesn't love her and he mostly just wants to challenge himself and "steal" her away. And him and Zenigata are strictly rivals
    5:Manga Lupin
    -Enjoys killing
    -Rapes women
-Is borderline insane (possibly wears a skin suit at all times to hide his true identity)
    -Steals cause he's bored
    -Runs a crime family
-Jigen and Goemon are strictly partners, Fujiko(s) is a sex object for him and nothing more, Zenigata hates him to his very core

I loved Parts 4 and 5. 5 more than 4. When watched consecutively it's a great Lupin experience. My favorite version of Lupin is the master thief who thinks and operates many moves ahead. That's why I like Lupin in Parts 1, 4, and 5, The Secret Of Mamo, and Farewell To Nostradamus. And even when he's behind he catches up very quickly.

In the 7th episode of Part II, "Cursed Case Scenario", Fujiko actually shows what seems to be genuine concern for Lupin when he's fallen ill with the mummy's curse.
Always liked how in Lupin, almost all the characters seem to have some depth rather than just being stereotypes

    • @THEAnimeHERO
      @THEAnimeHERO  Před 3 lety +3

She has her moments of concern but as the series keeps going you're gonna see how greedy & traitorous Fujiko can be. Regardless, I still like her. 😆. The characters were pretty much their own thing during the late 1970's. especially before the anime clichés were made. The other material from movies & tv specials showcase a lot more of their personal sides.

I guess I'll say this again, but Lupin was one of my earliest experiences with the classic era of anime (back in 2003 on [as] with Red Jacket, which is my fav) and I absolutely adore it....well most of it
I agree with you on Part IV cuz I wasn't too crazy about it either (and Part V is so much better as a Lupin show and does a good job of honouring its legacy), I also share your thoughts on Pink Jacket cuz it _really_ deserves more love than it gets

I started watching Lupin part 2 or the red jacket series. It's wonderful hilarious fun and the dub falls in that sweet spot where it's terrible but also really good lol. Like the voice actors do a good job, but it's just the pacing of the show and the way they were made back then that dictates how the voices come across. It's hilariously campy and bad, but you can tell the people voicing the characters had a lot of fun doing it and that just puts a huge grin on my face 😁 The campy and goofy performances just make the show funnier and Lupin wouldn't be Lupin without them ❤

I remember Lupin the 3rd from those Movie Specials from Funimation back in the early 2000s, best one in my view was Secret of the Twilight Gemini as that is my fav and go to when it comes to introducing people what the REAL Lupin the 3rd was more like.
Also I remember being in an anime club full of young high school Anime fans, they were shown the first episode of the 2012 Lupin the 3rd Fujiko Mime series.
The first few scenes were full of OPPAI and the projector had to be turned off because whoever downloaded the episode thought that it was going to be like that Castle of something something from the Miyazaki movie.
Boy they were WRONG, and I did try to warn them that Lupin the 3rd is MORE than just that one Miyazaki film.

Are you gonna update the video to cover Part 6 now that it's over? I found it to be very underwhelming overall. Not bad, but for me it didn't reach thr standards of Parts 4 and especially 5. The one off episodes were mostly forgettable (some like episode 10 stand out but not many), the Holmes story was, in my opinion, straight ass and although the Witch and Gentleman story was really nice I wish they would have dared to go a bit bodler with it in the end

@@THEAnimeHERO I've checked reviews just about everywhere and 90% of those who saw the series were dissapointed with it or at the very least thought it didn't live up to Parts 4 and 5... to be fair Part 5 set some really high standards but still it's an unfortunate end to a streak of extremely good Lupin projects that started in the mid 2010s (well aside from Goodbye Partner). I do have to say though that season 2 (episodes 13-24) is a lot more solid than season 1 so I suggest you check it out, if not now at least when the dub comes out.

Lupin The 3rd Parts 1-5 are on Crunchyroll. Retro Crush recently got Lupin. Funimation streams The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. Part 5 is available on Spectrum under adultswim on demand. Parts of it also streams on Amazon. Netflix has Castle Of Cagliostro. CZcams movies has some of the recent Lupin movies. A good chunk of Lupin is also available for purchase on blurays & dvds. To be honest, for many years Lupin was only watched through fansubs on unofficial anime websites but lately there has been an increase in licensed material. You would have to look at websites for "free" Lupin.
