    You need to use SatPC32 instead of HRD. I have used both. With SatPC32 you can make adjustments for the Doppler offset with the CAT adjustments option on the menu bar. For each individual satellite you can fine-tune the uplink or downlink offset or both. I just adjust the uplink offset while I listen on the downlink. Once I get tuned in properly I save the settings and from then on that satellite is always tuned in for the Doppler offset as soon as I start the tracking for that satellite.

    Very nice upload Bob! I bought an IC9700 for my first rig in November. I haven't done any satellite work yet, but I have tried to contact the ISS a few times from my QTH in the UK. No luck yet, but we persist! Best wishes to you and yours, John M7JHA

    Its important to know that the IC9700 MUST NOT BE IN Satellite mode, just preset to normal 2 band FM or SSB mode because HRD Satellite will command the radio into the appropriate mode and frequency. CHECK the RX box to begin tracking, Check the MANUAL box to manually tune around then uncheck Manual when ready to contact the chosen station. When HRD Satellite is Running it is NOT possible to change RIT mode or voice recorder Mode, UNCHECK RX in order to change these settings.

    Thanks for the video on satellite ops. We have a new IC-9700 here and have only listened to sats on an older FT736R with Elk 144/70cm antenna. I thought the idea for the 9700 is that it would track Satellites without external software such as HRD.

    Well done, sir. I came to the same conclusions last week. HRD's satellite module needs a good bit of work to make it great, and I hope they spend some serious development time on it, but we got working it on the IC-9700 for now. Keep up the great work See you on the bird! // 73, KD9LTQ

    Hi Bob You need to tick the two boxes in the frequency panel on the satellite software, then the software will do the tracking. The 9700 looks good and I am considering the rig myself. Keep at it , Cheers

    Thanks Bob for posting this. It makes me want to give my HRD another try. I jumped heavy into sat. All with a set of beams and a Yaesu sat rotor. Spent a crapload of money and then to struggle with HRD trying to use 2 991A radios. Tried SatPC software although it halfway worked I hate it. If HRD will work with their latest update maybe I will give it another try. It is way more user friendly and much much better eye appealing in the graphics. Again thanks for the boots of inspiration.

    Fantastic Video - thank you very much for the very informative overview. I am also new to Sats and the 9700, so I truly appreciate your video. One question: You show in the video that you have programmed the Sats into the 9700. Is this a necessary step? … or does the HRD software suite do everything that is required?

    Bob, I really appreciate your video, as I'm fumbling through setting up my satellite station with HRD. I understand your use of RIT to keep on target with responding stations, but I'm sure HRD didn't intend that. I am struggling through the same thing. Have you tried using the sliders on the tuning bar to adjust frequency while the doppler correction is active? Have you found any other solutions since you posted this video?

  • @AstroHAM
    @AstroHAM Před 2 lety +1

    We at HRD found the problem with manual tuning correction.
    It should be fixed in the 1st quarter of 2022

  • @k9yk
    @k9yk Před 2 lety +1

    You shouldn't have to turn the RIT on. The software should read back any changes you've made with the VFO prior to its next setting for doppler correction.

    Great video. Question on your system. Are you using pre-amp? What about you antenna system. Are you using multi-element yagi? Wondering with one could work satl. With verticals?

  • @bbillp
    @bbillp Před 4 lety

    I thought I could overcome chasing doppler on CAS-4A and 4B linear Sats by locating my CW signal before locking the uplink and downlink VFOs to track but sometimes the observed frequency difference from the center frequency was as much as 3.5 khz and other times only 1khz. Does PCSAT32 or HRD Sat software help compensate for doppler ? Has anyone programmed the UHF side with incremental frequencies stored in memory to compensate for doppler ?

    Thanks for sharing bob. I’ve been eyeballing the 9700 but the flashing I’m seeing upon Doppler is driving me crazy. Haha. Any way to make those both the same color while shifting ?

    Hi Great vid I have a 8 element yagi for 2m on a rotor . I am also going to get a 9700 what else would I need to do antenna wise ? Are you not using any elevation on the antenna Thx agn

    Bob, thanks for making this GREAT Video!! I have the same software and the same radio.. In the process of building the antenna system. Have the Yaesu G-5500 Rotor and GS-232B control BOX!! i Have not yet settled on what antennas I will be using for the 30 foot tower mount.. Any chance we can get what your control and antenna system is you are using?? That would make an interesting video.. I will have 3 antennas total, one for each band and individual feed lines, Already Installed,, for the antennas. Using the IC-9700 mopstly for terminal mode right now, but the main reason to get the IC-9700 was for Satellite Operation hear in San Diego!! Bob,, WA6PHN

    I've been having similar issues as you. The rit doesn't make much sense because you're only changing the frequency in between updates from HRD and if you notice, you're also changing the the frequency on the on the TX side, but not even in proportion to the RX side. So while you're tuning with rit your signals progressively get further apart on the transponder. I'm learning with you and trying to figure this out too. {edit... I realize this is RIT only, not RIT/TX. I'm used to my 7610. my apologies)

    The problem with using RIT is that you can't possibly tune the entire passband that way.

    hi bob audio not too good on the video shame bit quite at times clever bit of kit amazing foot print on the xw thanks for sharing sir be good if you do a video of how to plug the radio into the computer and set up the ham radio deluxe being in a valley with mountains is good if theres a nuclear blast ha thats about it what a radio do you know where the contacts were who you talked too

    Hi Bob. I haven't used my 9700 on the birds yet but will eventually. That VFO A/B flashing is annoying (to me). Is this a function of the radio or HRD?. Is there a way to turn it off?

    • @butch3715
      @butch3715 Před 4 lety

      By the way, I used to use the birds years ago (Oscar 7, 8, 10, 13, 40), and if I remember correctly the standard way to compensate for Doppler was to adjust the uplink frequency to maintain a constant downlink frequency. This way the transmissions downlink signal isn't walking up or down the band.
