- Using the Icom IC-9700 with SatPC32 and Ham Radio Deluxe software for ham radio satellite contacts
Thank you for subscribing to my channel.
Starting from the top:
I am using the ELK dual band (2meter / 440) antenna for my main SAT antenna. The preferred and best of the SAT antennas is, by far, the Leo Pac: www.m2inc.com/FGLEOPACK
The rotor is a used Yeasu G5400B azimuth and elevation combination. The new ones are model G5500. www.gigaparts.com/yaesu-g-550...
The “Brains” of it all is the JZG Electronics controller, www.jzgelectronics.com//produ...
This is the least expensive controller I could find and it works fine for me. My friend bought one and he seems to be having problems getting it to work, but it may just be his computer expertise (lack of) holding him back.
The other option is Yeasu’s mate to their rotor: www.gigaparts.com/yaesu-gs-23...
I am running LMR-400 Flex coax for both of the antennas.
As you saw in my video, I am using the combination of SATPC-32 (Which controls the rotator and radio), and Ham Radio Deluxe which is just an optional graphical tracking interface that I like but isn’t really needed.
That is pretty much it in a nutshell.
Good luck, - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Thanks for covering how to fine tune SatPC32 during a pass. I had been using the RIT on the 9700.
Great video, Bob. Thanks! I do basically the same thing as I’ve had problems with HDR rig control. I have less than a 360 degree antenna field of view from my QTH and appreciate the compass graphic. You can choose several display modes for the upcoming passes and I run the compass views instead of the graphs. Once you’ve done it a few times it’s easy to get the elevation off the compass view and in just a few seconds I can scan multiple passes, find ones that I can “see” and are above in my case 25 degrees. Cheers! W2RSB | F4WCM
Thank you for your instructional videos
Great help! I just got my 9700 and I saved this.
Glad it helped!
Great system overview - looks like I will replicate your system as I think it's very informative especially using those Apps and graphics etc. Oh by the way I just got a 9700! 👍73 de GI8WFA.
Helpful video - I just decided to try working sats and have a 9700 on the way- never done it before. If you have thoughts on antennas and antenna tracking would be interested to see a video. I like the intro on the video!
Excellent site, more or less the same setup as me, but I can't get JZG to connect to HRD, works perfect in SATPC32. I've subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Great video as I'm just starting. I can't seem to hear myself. So how do you tune to find yourself. I have your same set up.thanks
Great video. I see in the 9700 the manual says to program negative tracking for the Japanese Satellite Fuli so-29 I think it is, I looked up your video here after trying to program the ISS into my 9700 because I can't see if its negative or positive tracking. I really have only tried to start into this type of HAM programming today and only ever (for over 20 years) been HF orientated. Now in the 9700 Manual the example given has the Japanese Satellite with negative tracking to program into the 9700, but, I can't see or really even understand what tracking I need to program into the 9700 for the ISS. I was kind of hoping your video might explain something I'm guessing a lot of people already know quite well, but I really don't so I'm asking.
Can you please explain this negative and positive tracking thing the 9700 has and why I need to consider it please ?????
Thanks for the video. What sort of equipment do you use to keep your antenna pointed at the satellite?
Interesting / valuable information on the CAT window for finding your voice. Have you use HRD application fully implemented with your 9700? Now in regards to whistling? You actually whistle to ensure you are hitting the satellite? I do wait until the elevation is at 15 minimum and I make sure to hear my own voice then. Please avoid whistling as you can interrupt a qso in progress. Rafael / NN3RP
You don't need to manually put the 9700 into satellite mode because SatPC32 will do it.
Grab a docking station for the laptop and use a second monitor ;) I use sdr console for graphics
Whose pointing the antennas?
That would be me and my Yeasu G-5400B rotator

Ahhhh,
A lot going on simultaneously..
