- Is the Dell Latitude e5440 the laptop you need? At these prices, it just might. This is a great notebook for Google docs, email, surfing, watching CZcams etc. But not so great for Fortnite or Apex legends

Liar! I own this laptop and using the discrete GPU, maximum performance settings and only my games installed, it can't run shit. It can only process single player source games at low graphic settings. If yours runs well, tell me how you got it to do so...

I'm gravitating towards this for few reasons:
Has 2 slots of ram. Dual Channel. Up to 16g. Easy to replace. Most of the new laptops cannot be upgraded & ask wayy too much even for 8g.
Hd same easy to change. Dual hd.
Replaceable battery.
Small.
Actually not that ugly or old. Looks modern.
Can I use two harddisk in this laptop? One ssd and other (sata) ??

I bought one for $145 still in nice shape with the i7 processor. I threw an extra 8GB of ram in and swapped the 500gb for a 1TB ssd. Runs great, long battery life, solid laptop

I'm still using an old i5 E5450 with Ubuntu 20.04 16Gb & pro-SSD. It's great for development (much better than a 10th gen 8Gb i5 windoze Lenovo for example) hooked up to another monitor, the screen and trackpad are poor but great keyboard for typing, rock solid, I'd recommend strongly

Coreboot was ported to the Latitude 7240, everything works except touchpad and ACPI power stuff. Rumor has it all the 4th gen Dell Latitude & Precision laptops have the same embedded controller. Maybe pretty soon you can throw some open source firmware on that thing and extend its life even further

My daily computer is a Ryzen 5 5600 16Gb Ram with a GTX 1660. My laptop for traveling is this Dell. I upgraded it with an SSD and I'm planning to give it 8 Gb of Ram, and that's it.
I’m thankful I have 8gig and some other stuff on mine. I needed something because all the libraries are closed due to COV-19 never thought about stuff like that. So now off to get a printer and I’m good to go at home. I don’t have to be around nobody even when everything opens back up. Never again will I get caught slipping

Best thing about this laptop... It has an mSATA slot... It takes the mini mSATA. I installed a 240gb mSATA, along with a 240gb standard ssd... Machine boots lightning fast and so far so good.
I think this guy may have underestimated this machine. The one he had was an example of a low spec model. In 2014 when these machines first came out if you got one with the I7 processor, 16GB or ram, the 2GB dedicated NVIDIA graphics, 256GB samsung PM SSD (500 was not an option) the dual band 1601 wireless card with Y Gig and the 9 cell battery you would have had a respectible gaming laptop. Of course the price for such a loadout would have been close to 3K USD.

Good review. One thing I don't like about this laptop are the keys on the keyboard. They do not elevate from the unit but are flat. To me it's similar to one of those Surface keyboards.

@@mharrtj6350 I wouldn't recommend it for Gaming the GPU is quite an old piece, never played GTA V with it but I did some other games like Honkai Impact 3 PC version (60FPS) it only went down when there was a lot of mixed up stuff together like fighting flares and stuff like that, but for office its quite a great guy, but there is a draw back the fan noice is quite noticeable and from the left side there is a ton of hot air coming out which might be an issue this happenes when I use it on Balanced mode and Full Performance mode.
I hope I cleared up something for you been using it for 10 month now, and I really love it.

I bought mine on Ebay for $185 6 years ago. The display was cracked and replace it for $35. 16GB RAM, two 500GB SSD, WIN 10PRO, VMWare 15.x with Win 7, XP, Ubuntu 20.x. Wherever i am and whatever I do it will do it. I did buy a 7750 32GB RTX5000 and is ver nice. The 5440 is with me every day. Just love that thing.

off newegg for a 130 and its suppose to be refurbished so will see in a few days after i get it. its saying in the description its a 250 sdd but in the additonal info its saying it has a nvidia g force graphics card now with a i7 chip

Hell no. I have this laptop right now, I am getting a gaming laptop in July. This laptop can not play games, the only two games it can play are Fortnite, (20 fps), and Roblox, (lowest settings). Look at Walmart.com, they have good laptops for gaming in the 500 - 850 dollar range, personally I am still deciding if I should get the Asus Gtx 1660 with 8 gb ram, or the Evoo gtx 1650, with 16 gb ram.

it will do what needs to be done but you'd be better off with a Precision M2800 personally. they have a built in video card
I've gone through a few of those pretty, thin notebooks. I've given up. You can't fix them. If you can open them without destroying them, there are no parts available. I lost one because the power switch went and another because the ribbon cable for the fan somehow got damaged inside the case. Both should have been easy, cheap fixes. From now on, i'm buying off-lease business class notebooks. They can be fixed and if you can't order the parts, there are lots on ebay. They usually have great keyboards and get BIOS/driver updates a lot longer. If you find a good authorized refurbisher they come clean, look fairly new and have up to 3 year warranty. That's better than a lot of new stuff. My 2009 Toshiba is still going and I'm using it again until I find something else. Add an SSD and some memory to a lot of that old stuff and it's good to go for another few years.

Been looking at stuff all day and I actually settled on a T440s. I can get one with 4gb on board and a small ssd for a good price. I’ve got the 8 gb stick of DDR3L and a 500 gb ssd from the one I’m junking. At least it’s not a total loss. I nearly passed on it because it was an ultrabook and I want something that isn’t going to fall apart. It’s actually the higher end model. Notebookcheck liked it so I think I’m getting it next week.
I bought one too. Did you know that this laptop also can hold a mSata ssd besides the 2.5" Sata drive? Planning on putting two ssd's in there, for dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux.

Some laptops have mobile broadband card/slot where you put the mSATA (same interface), not M2.
@@MikeDancy The Dell E7440 has an extra mSATA slot as well. You can select which slot to boot from in BIOS.

I have the same type but mine has an extra little blue mouse with an extra clicking button. I have that one part your kissing on the side and it has a mail opener thing slash 2’ ruler 📏/ shows the temperature of F and C degree & some small holes that say 3.175 mm up to 12.7mm. My laptop also powers up right at the start but when I shut it down, it takes a while. Touchscreen.

i got a dell E5440 i7-4600u, 8Gb ram , well its not a quad core alright but its a little beast on its own ,its clocking speed is spectacular for the price i got it at ,it clocks upto 3.3 ghz ,and normally during work its at 2.8 ,when tasks get heavy it goes upto 3.1,3.2ghz ,and thanks to the inbuilt GPUs i can easily change for higher performance ,i am not a gamer but i am fine with the nividia 750 and the intel 4400 for my programs, i normal do programming on it ,my IDE's works excellently ,to test the machines capability i installed GTA V and it ran just fine the fan was busy though ,I also tired a game engine (unity to be exact )and it worked i am sure it can handle 3D modelling Software , video editing ,as well like i said its not a quad core but it surpasses the 2.1 upto 2.7 ghz speed its tagged by its performance is outstanding i wsnt expecting that much from it

The ram upgrade to 16GB won’t hurt. An i7 is pretty capable. You could always switch to Linux and still run Steam to play your games.

yes, it's still a great computer. but my all time favourite is the Lenovo T450s which is the i7-5600u 2.59GHz.

That’s really all you need. What editing software are you using? I prefer Filmora Wondershare. It works well. Maybe get a bigger hard drive or a external drive for storing video.

You try hooking it up to an external display to see if it’s still yellow? If so, then it’s the video card. You can try swapping the screen if it’s not the card. They sell for about $35-$50 on eBay

It shouldn’t hurt the laptop at all. Have fun and enjoy the games. Maybe look at putting in a SSD drive for faster gameplay though

Because every battery is different. They have cycle counts which dictates how long they will last.

sounds like you need a new battery and if it's heating up, you might want to take some compressed air to it and clean the fan out. If you have a computer store nearby, they can do a 'tuneup' and do all that for you.

I wouldn't say that it's good. It might be a bit slow but I'm sure that it can handle it. I use the Dell e7440 sometimes and it can handle graphics quite well.

@@nady158 Hey, I bought this on my local facebook marketplace for Malta. THe guy selling them had quite a few of them. He recycled the machines from the company he was working for, of course they came without storage, so he got hold of some 2nd hand el cheapo samsung ssds and voila, sale is made. Excellent quality too - 0 scratches and things like that. Machine works really great. i'm using it for Ableton mostly.

it might run it, but i would shop around for a Dell m4600 and then change the hard drive out to a SSD to bump up the performance

Hmm i own this laptop i5 4310u + 8gb ram + 480 ssd + gt720m, its price in lithuania, where im from its about 150-200eu its really worth this money, perfect for study, battery 4h~, all progs that i need word fast like autocad, netbeans, codeblocks, powedesigner etc.
I bring this laptop with me every day last 3 years and i cant say that it got visual defects like scratches, so housing is really strong. Also that is important for student these days I think is that keyboard has 4 level backlight to write something at night.
Games such as cs or lol runs well, allso i play some older games on it like red alert2, far cry 1, nfs mw, for high end games ive got home pc on i7 860 clocked 4.0ghz and rx 470 8 gb.
