Definitely the American Bass, but I wish Pioneer would get back in the SPL game.
@@timmturner Yes, i was @ the Db drag world final's to see pioneer's record setting SPL vehicle, late 90s, or early 2000s, geez, it's been that long ago🤣😂!? I still love car audio!
@@evilinside5984 must have been an awesome outing. I graduated highschool in the mid nineties and got right into building a system and am still a bass head today. My brother had a fosgate system before I graduated and got me interested in car audio.
American bass.. they got to be better than my walmart gothic 12" s.... But these gothics didnt disappoint me for being cheap subs.. no extra noise other than the music being played through them..
@@timmturner Oh, it was Awesome! On stage they had the hawiian tropic's bikini women, dancing to the live Dj billie E of Bass Mekanix's! Also speaking of rockford fosgate, i talked to arthur the shaker teurgeon, sponsored by Rockford was there with his 170plus db vehicle! I got to see the first Team Rf subwoofer's, they were hybrid's based off of Team shocker's sigs, if i recall correctly? I was also very lucky, to have seen richard clark's renowned SQ World Champion grand national, with aperiodic membrane subwoofer setup!
Ts-w3003d4 from Pioneer is the most underrated underappreciated sub there is.
Pioneer sub can throw 138.7dB with 500W RMS, American Bass can throw 139.dB with 1000W RMS. But the Pioneer is throwing pretty loud sound for 500W RMS rating.....
I had two of the AB XD 10's in my 2015 Chrysler 300. I built a sealed box when u first got them. They sounded ok but I felt like they weren't as loud as they could be. I built an L port box with the port firing to the back at 2.5 cubic feet. They came alive after I put them in this box. They hit pretty damn good for two 10's.
A buddy bought some pioneer 12's from Walmart built a pretty big enclosure a little more than recommended to run in back of his Tahoe. He ran a soundstream tarantula 2400w 2 channel I won some years ago from a soundstream slogan contest. Anyway, those pioneers hit so stupid hard and loud. It was ridiculous how much bass output the would do. Eventually almost a year in they finally gave out. I'm sure they were in to big of box and over powered even though the soundstream probably didn't do rated, but definitely put some serious power out still. Point of the story never underestimate budget subs 😅👍
Cheap subs can surprise you for sure
I love me some American Bass. I've never been disappointed with an American Bass sub. I love the XR series.
They’re legit
I love that you chose a pioneer to run here with these other budget bangers! I thought mine were way underappreciated!
I know you hated the sq, but try that pioneer in 1.25 and it sounds great. Granted i had a A120S4E, I found a large box with that sub would be boomy wierd sounding... just my opinion though.
Yeah the SQ could have been effected by the enclosure for sure
I love that deep 4ohm pioneer sound
I'm currently running the same Pioneer on about 470rms power and it performs well . Nice video
Yeah it’s a solid sub for the money
I love American bass subs ! They are built great and take a beating ! Great video!
They seem solid for sure!
I had two of the older 307s in a ported box and they were banging
Yeah fo sho
I have six of the american bass 12s on a taramps 3k. For a budget sub , They get low and loud. Very pleased for the $ vs performance. 12 cube ported at 33 hz
They surprised me
2x 12” TSA301D4 ... wired to 1Ohm with precision power 1800d.1/3600 in a skar vented enclosure. Very satisfied with the price to performance of it all
Fron what I've seen tearing into subs if I had to make a wager I would guess the pioneer has a 2" 2 layer coil. The Polk db12 was rated at 375w and that's what it had for a coil, that size seems to be very common on low power budget subs...
I had 2 of the dx scv ab 12s on a kicker zx1500.1 doing 143+ db for over a year before 1 blew.
After that I became a American bass fan.
I had 2200 watts on 2 of the newest model tnt 15s and they were hardly moving and beating harder than the dx 12s I had.
I had the dual 12 open chamber box with the ported end and my 15 Memphis box I had the tnts in was the same design and my favorite box design so far for only 2 subs under 2k watts.
My amps were 1500 and 2240 watts but running a stinger dc1200 battery and all stock electrical I doubt I was even pushing 1000 watts out of any of my setups so 143.4+ DB out of American bass budget lines was pretty good.
The tnt 15s we're good for 2 years till I sold my SUV and then the subs cause they wouldn't fit in my car.
Nice
I don't want to be that guy, but I'm going to be that guy. It's doing these manufacturers pretty dirty by not putting them in the proper sized enclosure. I mean, that air volume is extremely important as part of the mechanical dampening.
I’ll be doing a video soon disproving that 😛
@@HifiVega Revolving around dbs, or sound quality?
@@vcjester both
Most guys buying these subs are not putting them in there correct enclosure there buying prefabs and not good prefabs either. I feel the way hifi is doing it is most accurate comparison to what most people would be running these subs
@@HifiVega you could touch on efficiency at the same time. I don't know about the newer model in this video, but my xd was rated at 93db. Obviously it wasn't that much louder than the competition
Gotta love the efficiency of the Pioneer, giving the peak DB at 500w. Add 3 more on a 2k amp and you have a budget block banger. My $$ would be on the Pioneer, trading a slight DB loss for SQ. Keep up the bass lord's good work!
I don't think they sound that great but I never tried the pioneers in a sealed box, they may shine there.
In my opinion it's the heavy vinyl surround, it isn't accurate at all and even a bit muddying. It's tough though and lasts.
@@timmturner I might be misleading in the fact that I had Champs from many years ago. Have they gone downhill?
I have a pioneer ts w3003d4 it handle the 1000rms easily i know its not the recommended rms but the rated power is 2000w peak so it can plays without any issue and sounded very good especially the lows very impressive it's very loud you can hear me far away that's why i love the pioneers♥️
The Pioneer is efficient and gets loud for a small amount of money
@@claudinostemarie9769 right the 3003d4 is a much better sub
Love it keep them coming
Thanks for watching!
HiFiOneer! Great shootout!!
Ftw
I have a single XD in my wife's car hooked up to a Skar RP-1200 amp.It sounds good.
I have my 2 champion series at 2,000 watts rms I’ve pushed them at 3,000 for 30 mins… they are very underrated
Fun fact. Xd 12s love 2.5 cu ft. Tuned to 32 is where it's happy in my experience
Agreed
A friend gave me 2 American bass 10s, I put in a clam shell style isobaric box, on a old orion red hcca, they sound amazing
I'm surprised!!!
Orion hcca’s will make anything sound amazing 😉 but these AB subs are pretty legit
Cone area and excursion combined to agree with suspension means a lot.
🤙🏼
Vega, try an audio elegance 10 when your done with these cheaper subs, they have several designed for automotive use. one of them
is designed for sealed enclosures. it would show the balance between sound quality, spl and what you can get for a little more money.
keep up the good work!

Get your hands on a Phoenix gold sx 12d4. Had 2 of em in a 40hz ported box and on 373rms to the pair metered 144.3db on the dash driver door open.
I have two 12s pioneer champion series 1400watts max without the plastic basket in a prefab ported box I think it sounds great.but I might be wrong
Gotta vote pioneer, as I'm running 2 ts-w261d4's @ 1 ohm on an xda91rb.
The Pioneer Premier made in Mexico early 2000’s subs are outstanding but I would vote for American Bass on this comparison
🤟🏼
Facts
I had 2 pioneer premier dual 4ohms on a hifonics Brutus 2k and it was ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS! The lows were outstanding. I love pioneer but for bass i would also go with american bass.
Best sub for sq I'm running 4 pioneer premier ts - w1208 d4 dvc. IB they really get down. Powering them is a soundstream tarantula 2000d .1. @ 1ohm wish @HifiVega would dyno that amp always wanted to see could it do rated power soundstream used to make great amps I used to own a Picasso 3500d .1 also a great amp but nobody has dyno these Amps
Hell I always wanted the 5102spl and the 8102spl subs pioneer made
I gotta go with pioneer. I’ve ran both the American bass xfl and nearly all the pioneer subs that have been available in the past 10 years. They look small and underwhelming but never seem to disappoint. My favorite for sq. As for just spl. I’ve always loved sundown sa classic from the sundown yardsale for a good budget bang
The SA classic series are excellent subs
How does pioneer perform in lows ?
The pioneers spider looks cool
Could you test jbl ? Or other types of pioneer ?
There is kenwood also
There is also a champion series pro...2000 watts..
Guess at start of vid is pioneer just a thought coin flip no knowledge to justify but call it a friendly self bet. Interesting of part build as to performance. Coolvid for sure thx bud!!!!
Thanks for watching!
That American bass will smoke that version of pioneer a pioneer champion pro is a much better compare.
compare the 2000w champion pro series please
Love the pioneer.
I actually know exactly why u hate the sound quality of the pioneer its unloading in that box it needs a cubic foot less of air space and a way smaller port the whole point of that sub is to get high output in a fairly small box with low power I feel like this comparison is not good because most of the other subs need over 2 cubic foot of box so your box is within their specs and the sensitivity is 92 it's a better sub you just have to understand what the specs are telling you because pioneers specs actually mean something unlike some of these other companies
Nice! American Bass ftw
🤟🏼
I've had both XD don't get as low, but handle 800 rms . Those pioneer won't handle more than 400 rms before they get stinky. The champion pro is much better sub but not available anymore. Go with AB between the 2
I'll go AB XD over the Pioneer, good video my man
Thanks
I've had a pair Pioneer Championship Pro (ts-w3003d4) on a CAB 1600.1 for years and not only have they held up with the same vinyl type surround as this tested Pioneer sub the surrounds still look and function like new after years of Florida heat.
That said the Championship Pro are better subs versus the tested Pioneer here so take what I say with a grain of salt.
The champion pros are solid too
Fantastic pair of subs and are very efficient, the w3003d4's were the first 12's I had they're still doing great in my dads car till this day !
I agree , I currently have my 2 x 12z pioneer ts-w3003d4 in a spec ported enclosure , and the sound quality is great
I have two XD 15’s from American Bass in my 2 dr jimmy running 2 ohms in a ported enclosure with a Mrd-m1005 1000w rms that’s sending all the party to the speakers lol it kinda hurts it’s so loud on songs got my bass at -6 still flex’s the roof like crazy
Should try the Pioneer tsw3003d4...it will surprise you
🤟🏼
Hifi, I need your advice! I have the kenwood excelon 2 12s box. I was going to get the 2 kicker comp Qs to upgrade. Will it be a significant upgrade or am I trading on a pretty level field? Love your sub demos! Thanks for the vid!
It should be a decent upgrade, but I’m not all that familiar with the new kenwood subs.
@@HifiVega i appreciate your time brother...they are pretty good...1000 watts rms at 20hm...only thing that sucks is frequency response 29-300hz
Love the vids man, an definitely hope you do more like these shoot outs! Now for my sub opinion id say American. Pioneer in my opinion isn't as good as they use to be.
I’ll do mo fo sho
SQ wise. It's the pioneer. Cleaner, quicker bass... Play both in comparison on the kick drums, listen to the " skin" on the drum being hit.
Pioneer is under rated in my book. Be curious to see pioneer vs Kenwood in the mix as well
Kenwood would be a good one
312 How much RMS can the maximum handle?
Kicker subwoofers hands down !!!! All day 💪🏽💯🤟🏽
🤟🏼
What type of wire to use for the dual voice coil ?
It’s 12ga ofc Speaker wire
You should do a series where you test and compare the absolute cheapest sub from every brand
That’s a great idea! I might do that
American Bass is always the best way to go baby 💪🏿💯
American bass is pretty solid
@@HifiVega They are very solid
I want to see what you think about the Soundstream reference, it'll probably put all of these to shame. Very impressive sub for the price!
I’ll have to check them out
American bass I ran 3 of them dx and for the 🤑 well worth it
Solid subs for sure
When any sub doesn't please the ear it's box agreeance I do not mean volume I only mean over all response n when u get that kippel meter you'll see
with pioneers cover off it runs a bit cooler
You seriously need to match Subwoofers into their recommended boxes, As Both
Subs in this example actually required smaller Cabins, the Pioneer is best suited
for a 1.5 cubic ft ported box for it to have a response down to 15Hz -3db point, the
American Bass in the correct box, not sure what model,
"Good for Ported or Good for Sealed" should be able to get as low as 19Hz at it's
-3db point. You also need to measure how flat their frequency response is as well,
also measure for any resonances, because not everyone is just interested in a Sub
that just thwacks and thwacks until it's dead, some of us if not most prefer
smooth clean unadulterated sensation, you know when you hear and feel it.
The Infinity Primus 12 would be a good contender against that Pioneer
For sure
12"inch sudwoofer rate sir
Pioneer subs can take a long hard beating without popping.
Pioneer 💯
seems like the pioneer had less mechanical noise in the initial test, definitely inferior in build quality compared to the ambass though.
Aren't they both dvc?? Anyway I have the older pioneer tsw 309 d4 on a taramp bass 400. And i shake at least a block if sound. The quality is very nice especially for 94db. If youd had ran it at 4 or 2 ohms instead if 8, youd realize why they call them champion.. fyi that ab xd only rated at 88db.
So what sub has the best sound quality? I'm not interested in how loud it can go or really having that rib breaking bass, more interested in a good full low range and sounds really smooth and good. I'm an old guy and shaking the glass just doesn't interest me, but to listen to Pink Floyd and hear every sound is what I'm looking for.
Thanks, great site, keep up the good work.
I dunno if I’d go for either of these then. You might wanna go the RF Prime if you’re on a budget
@@HifiVega thanks, I'll check it out
The champion series is the beast
I have 2x12 pioneer champ with a non ported box,. How do i unlock its potential
I mean you said it! Get a ported enclosure that will work within their parameters. Outside of that more power?
Hey what size amp you was running on those 2 subs?
Soundqubed U-3000 bridged at 4ohm
I’d choose American Bass on this one.
Only 1db less at half power. Curious what 750w do in the middle? Yes, the surrounds can get gnarly looking with age, but the nylon webbing does not dry into a powder like foam. Pioneer Champs kind of last forever. Hard not to like that. Wish we could figure out what to treat the surrounds with. Not sure if ArmorAll is the right thing. I'm going to make finding out my mission. 💪
303
So...that didn't take long. Elastic Polymers like cold, dark, dry environments. Dark we can do, but none of the rest are easily accomplished in Texas. So.... Crap.
I mean they look cool when they’re new lol
@@HifiVega and they're waterproof! 🍺
AB no question about it!!!
Solid pick
AB for the win.
🤟🏼
That’s an easy one. American bass ftw
🤟🏼
I feel the entry line drivers tend to “sound better” in sealed enclosures and good for “bass fill” rather than straight up bass
If that makes any sense 😅
Great video can’t wait to see the top 4!
I agree. I run a pair of the Crossfire C3 10's in a sealed enclosure and while they are not Focals they sound very good to me. Very responsive and they do go low so not so sure about the "bass fill" part
Pioneer subs are very durable once used properly,am still running a pair of tsw- 3002spl 12s,have em for like 20 sumin years now
those were $250 each new these subs he is testing are light years above and cast half the money . the pioneers of today are garbage compared to what they made 20 years ago thats why they sell at walmart
@@craigengelman4534 Not true, please read my comment 3 above this.
The pioneer are solid subs
I speak from experience, the Pioneer 12 gets smokey 650-700 watts.
Defenitely not, i have mine running on a audio pipe 2000 and theyre brand new havent had any bad smells or clipping
as a Pioneer Champion Series owner i think its your box that the issue that the sound quality issue. by putting the rubber piece on the second set of sub helped with that issue which why it sounded better than the pioneer's. you have a crack or a leak in your box some where, something structural is wrong with it. what material did you use to make it?
Dude ur wrong with everything u said.
It’s a Baltic birch enclosure, but I think the size might have more to do with the SQ than an air leak. I’ve used this enclosure on multiple subs and haven’t had an issue.
@@joshholden8561 ok so i have 31 years in sound audio, not to mention i have magnificent hearing. i gave an example and suggestions, you basically got your feelings hurt so you just said im wrong with no reasoning so just pls stop kiddo. if you cant make your case of why i am wrong do not embarrass yourself thanks
@@HifiVega ok i have a question, inside the enclosure is it reinforced? if you do not have it braced that might be what i am hearing. specially when them rubber grommets arent attached like in the pioneer testing.the rubber grommets may have helped reinforce a bit when you installed them got the american bass subs. the rubber grommets were acting as sort of a dynomat of sorts or sound deading material do you under stand what im saying?
@@PhobosPlace I watched hifi make the box and seal it . The box is built great for pioneers specs it's just not a good sub with a tiny motor tiny coil little x mech and x max low bl and low MMS and has a decent hier sensitivity these subs are super cheap for a reason .
For straight sq not spl maybe a Image Dynamics ID12 for a same price bracket
ID is legit
Im curious how the Image Dynamic's Id12 would perform in hi fi vega's Large ported enclosure? In small sealed enclosure's, they excel in Sq!
Pioneer has always made good subs for the price. In 2023 you get a better bang for your dollar with other subs
In brazilian the Pioneers are blow!!!
You can have shit subs in a very badass custom built tuned box and it sound amazing you can also have a very good name brand sub in a crappy made non-tuned box and it would sound terrible it's about the enclosure and wiring and running
The magnet size isn't very reliable. What matters is their composition of the magnet and how it is magnetized. A smaller magnet can indeed be stronger than a larger one.
You should really put the Soundstream BXW-12 to the test, they are only $64.99 and with pretty good reviews everywhere.
I’ll have to check them out
Pioneer all the way!
🤙🏼
Please test something from Rockford Fosgate, say p3d2
I tested one a while back and it was great
Why does the American bass look exactly like the Pioneer Pro series?
Guess I haven’t seen the pro series yet
Definitely should do a losers bracket showdown
I think it would be fun
I enjoyed the video as always, but time to stop using them wood screws and put in the threads. Personally, I think the Pioneer looks better. But as we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
This enclosure has threaded inserts, but they don’t match up for all the subs.
Both subs are good for what they are but Americans Bass is a better sub😊
Yeah I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with either
The sensitivity on the pioneer is prolly 89 while the ab is prolly 87 so actually the pioneer should have been hier db than it was I have had some of the pioneer subs I got to sell pioneer should never have put champion series on that model they downgraded the champion series badly and the big plastic is just a gimmick to make them look like their big spl subs no one should ever fall for gimmicks on subs hifi u really should try the new Sony subs they are really good sub beefy motors nice coils and the sound is really low.
I never knew the pioneer looked like that till now, i always thought it was all in one enclosure subwoofer
Showed ya the truth lol
I'm going to have to choose American Bass over Pioneer
I want to know that which is better for low bass pioneer champion subwoofer or JBL 1300watt subwoofer 56dollars?
I haven’t used that JBL so I don’t have an opinion on that one. As far as the Pioneer it does ok on low bass, but I wouldn’t say it does well on low bass in the enclosure I used it in
What is the model name of the pioneer you used
Back in the 90s pioneer was the brand
Pioneer still makes some solid equipment, but it does seem like they’ve fallen from what they used to do
@@HifiVega theres radios are top notch
That plastic part on the pioneer being taken off doesn't effect subwoofer.
