Well played Nigel Clough and your team. Deserved win, but it was a shocking official yet again. Good luck we are making steady ground at County! Today was a good lesson in how to defend as a unit. UTC!

"We tell them all when you get tackled in the box to throw yourself on the floor to try and get a penalty, because getting a penalty is the best chance to get a goal, and that's what its about being a professional football player"

      Not an accurate quotation.

@@class58Because DKD didn't throw himself on the floor Nigel Clough said he was not worthy of credit for that. NC then explained "If you are fouled in the penalty area you go down unless you are going clear. We tell the players as much as we can to stay on their feet however if you are fouled in the penalty area then go down and then the referee has to make the decision"
He's telling them to throw themselves on the ground when the touch itself from the opposition player doesn't cause it. He's telling them in no uncertain terms to dive on the floor in order to try to win a penalty- and if they don't it's wrong.
That's what he said. And the quote is word for word, is it not?

@@731-j9y Your first attempt = when you get tackled. What he actually said (as you've agreed) is "if you are fouled." See the difference?

If you're fouled, make sure the ref knows. What's ya problem?

@@class58The "if you get fouled" and "then the referee has to make the decision" . He's just dressing it up. He cares not whether its a foul or not in reality - he just wants to get the penalty. And if that's happens by conning the ref by cheating then so be it. - "it's all part of being a professional football player in the modern game". Obviously if an opposing player cheats to win a penalty then he *is* then magicallly bothered by that.
I don't agree with this philosophy of artificially throwing oneself to the floor but the problem has always been "they all do it" and this is how it started in the first place. European teams started doing it and getting away with it and so it became "well if *they *do it then we should do it as well". Its rotted the fabric of the game to the point they're now teaching children to cheat. And as stated Cloughie is saying he tells his players to do it on camera and in public - whilst giving himself just enough wiggle room to retain some integrity. I wonder what his old man would think to promoting cheating?
      Anyway. Up the Stags.
