Hearing him saying the names of his ex players and get excited to hear from them is heartbreaking stuff. Thank you for trying to win a world cup for us Sven, honorary Englishman.
A real gent and much maligned when he was England manager . The only indicator that counts is what his players think of him - the fans are not too bright on matters like this - and they all obviously have huge respect and liking for the man.
Yeah its a bit sad that hes not well but Im sorry, all this Sven love in by all you guys is cringe. He had arguably the most talented England squad ever and he flopped big time. An absolutely horrific manager. I bet none of you are actually Sven fans and are just getting gooey eyed because he's a bit unwell lol 😂
@@Phil_Mitchellyour deffo a nonce
A bit unwell?he's dying you mad yoke..
@@Phil_Mitchell So Brazil, Italy, France, Argentina, Germany where awful then? Even teams like South Korea, Mexico had very good players and world class talent in some parts of the squads.
5-1 in germany. Me and my boy were there. Dont care about anything else, this man gave me and my boy the best night of our lives. Thanks Sven and God bless x
Me and my dad went to the game also. He passed away 3 weeks later of lung cancer. I will always have a special place in my heart for Sven for giving me and my dad that memory. It always makes me smile when I think of my dad.
@@MrBounce66 That is so very sad but also so special.
As an Englishman I’m not sure why people only talk about the England job with Sven.He won the UEFA cup with a Swedish club, league and cup doubles in Portugal and Italy,European Cup runner-up in 1990 and lots of other honours. He was one of the finest coaches in Europe and it would seem a great human being as well.
For anybody who doesn't know, Liverpool legends play ajax legends tomorrow at 3kickoff on the lfc channel and sven has been invited to manage liverpool the club he supports. What an amazing gesture, can't wait to be honest.
The noise and emotions will be off the chart.
Legends ? Where you getting them from then 😂 hope it's great game, enjoy , Fairclough forever, man u fan
I was there it was great ynwa Sven
Awww bless him. Was privileged to be at anfield for the LFC Legends game and emotional to see sven and watch his dream come true. Could see his emotion on his face as we all sang "You'll never walk alone". God bless you sven. YNWA
Sven was right about Hargreaves, he was world class, injuries stopped him from forfillying his potential
Nothing but respect for Sven he did a great job. Should have won something yes but every team played 442. Had we gone 433 and played hargreaves as the sitting midfielder and Gerrard and Lampard got forward with Owen up top and Rooney on the left we may have won something but as you say hargreaves was injured a lot
Will never forget his performance against Portugal in ‘06, he was immense.
@@chriswhiting1991 he went 4 3 3 v northern ireland and he lost his only qualifying game. The players were tactically inept and only knew how to play 4 4 2. Notice only Liverpool (playing benitez's tactical game) did well in europe during svens time as manager. English football was behind during Svens appointment. As for Hargreaves yes he was amazing v portugal in 2006 and englands player of the year that year
2 champions league medals for hargreeves didn't to do bad
@@chriswhiting1991what about scholes? Hargreaves was a good technical CDM but not as good as Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, I'd have him on a similar level to Michael Carrick, but Carrick was more durable. The only formation which would have worked was 4-1-2-1-2 but SGE not innovative enough to see it. Having said that a good effort, injuries in 2004 to Rooney was critical, bad refereeing and decisions in 2002 and 2006 cost England against good opposition. Could have knocked out Brazil in 02 but Ronny fluked that free kick...
Sven was one of the most important coaches in Portuguese football history.
He brought state of the art training methods and football knowledge for the league in the 80's. He was passionate, but always rational and even kind.
He is beloved by Benfica supporters and respected by his rivals. Absolutely consensual. A class act.
All the best Sven, you fucking legend, you are and will always be celebrated by football fans ❤🇵🇹
If you think he's loved in Portugal... ask Italian Sampdoria and Lazio fans what they think... Still a legend!
@@blundin4165A lot of football writers considered him the world's best manager during his stint at Lazio.
Respect love these comments
Thanks for sharing these details. I had no idea of his impact in Portugal, having only really followed him with England. A true European legend!
The 5-1 win against Germany was the best feeling I had supporting England during my teenage years, even though I am not English. It was the best moment during my support for England. Thanks for the memories.

Proper heartfelt message from Hargreaves there, lovely stuff. Wishing you all the very best Sven and I hope you have a great day managing Liverpool FC!
Yeah, it was really nice. Hargreaves was such an underappreciated player.
under rated Sven
@@BryanCooperOfficial injuries ruined him.. his performance against Portugal was one of the greatest individual performances ive ever seen...
Love Sven, never forget England 5-1 Germany, what a night. Thankyou Sven
Great memories of that game. Amazing feeling and makes me happy anytime I think about it. Cheers Sven 👍
Owen Hargreaves with the brain power to actually send a meaningful, heartfelt message. Michael Owen twittering on about the Euros and England's chances like some kind of AI bot.
Exactly what I thought... He's such a melon ol' Owen.... It's staggering he gets so much work in the media
Couldn’t agree more
I agree. I'm Scottish and watching this and Michael Owen's message was random AF and kinda disrespectful here. Owen Hargreaves was touching and emotional.
Totaly agree what a helms Owen is
One of the best managers England has ever had without doubt. The media in this country should be ashamed of the way he was treated which halted our progress. An honorary Englishman ❤
Respect
Outside of 1966 I agree Sven is in what is a 2 man list of greatest Managers of England but the No1 for me was of course the great man himself Sir Bobby Robson R.I.P. No others can touch him and don't think anyone in the future will come close.
Stay Strong Sven a class act to the end.
Having been diagnosed with cancer myself
Sven illustrates perfectly
Its about mental strength
Every day be thankful to be alive
Many others have greater pain & challenges
God bless 🏴👍⭐
Live life ❤
Wish u and sven as long as life as possible mate🙏🏾👊🏽💯
Wishing you all the very best in your recovery❤ what a brilliant spirit. You will beat it mate
All the very best with everything mate❤️
Very nice words from you, I hope your wishes come true.
You can see how much sven meant to Owen as he was nearly in tears. I'm irish but what a man sven is. I still can't comprehend that he hasn't much time left to live.
Did you think he'd live forever?
@@SJ-ps9lxhes refering to his cancer
What a life he has lived. This man is a legendary manager in our game. Such a class act.
Great to see a manager speak about how good Owen Hargreaves was. Truly great central midfielder.
Although that England team massively underachieved, I feel like Sven has always had the love of the country. A very warm and likeable man. I wish him all the very best 🙏🏻
It was the players that failed. Not Sven. They couldn't let their club ego's go when they played internationals.
@@sh3riff Ego's?
Man united players wouldn't interact with Chelsea and Liverpool players which caused a divide.
@@sh3riff and coming up against an absolutely world class Brazil, requiring a superhuman effort from Ronaldinho. 2004 they were playing well too, but every tournament after that was painful unfortunately
@@jamesnite2157 2006 we lost on penalties in quarter finals after losing Beckham to injury and Wayne Rooney got sent off. I don't think we did that bad tbh.
sorry at the end.. can't beat it life is beautiful..bloody hell made me cry
fuck that got me too. seems like such a genuinely decent man.
Brave guy 😢
Love and respect to you Sven.
His gave us 5 - 1 and lived a colourful life
One of the Greats
Absolute top bloke and warm human being. I pray he makes a miraculous recovery and continues to live as much of his ambitions as possible. Thanks for the memories Sven. 🙏🏾
That was really well put together and very well judged.
Not over-sentimental, just nicely made.
Appreciate the effort by all involved.
As an England fan I refuse to hate this man
Stay strong Sven and thank you for everything
Why the hell would you hate him?
@@wifterofabiftersupporters felt he underachieved with what he had. End of the day there's plenty of reasons but it wasn't his fault.
I don't hate him
Idiots will
You refuse to hate him? That's awfully good of you. Grow up you melt
All on the players for me. The club rivalries spilled over into the England camps which caused quite a hostile environment. Ultimately they didn't want to fight for each other.
What a lovely and genuine man Sven is.
Wonderful interview. I hope Sven has the best day at Liverpool. What a lovely, philosophical man. Keep fighting!
Lovely to hear him mention Sinisa Mihaijlovic of course no longer with us after cancer took him, YNWA Sven ❤
It took Viali who Sven managed as well, great player
Liked his sudden smile when Owen Hargreaves’s came up, he was right about him
Enjoy the match Liverpool legends are lucky to have you YNWA ❤️
Sven optimises every good about the old-school, legendary managers. Polite, selfless, always complimentary to his players, kind and warm. Nothing but love and respect for this football legend
Enjoy your day with us at Liverpool Sven. Let's make him proud Liverpool fans and players show him why he loves our club ynwa Sven 😞
They will do us proud I'm sure. The atmosphere will be electric and Barnes, rush etc will have a lot of respect for him. Ultimately he's a Liverpool fan and that will be the biggest part of it. 😊
Thank you Sven, you’ll never walk alone💙
I lost my dad a few months ago to cancer, he was the same age as Sven. I hope Sven can find a way to beat this horrible disease. All the best!
He can't, he's terminal, he knows he has up to a year left unfortunately.
I know a lot of people throughout the years have always talked about Sven not being at the same level as a Ramsey, Robson, Venables etc but for people my age growing up as an England fan, Sven was the man. We always hoped that somehow he'd find to gel all these great players together and find a winning formula in the World Cup or the Euros but alas it never came. I can still remember being devastated when we lost on penalties to Portugal in the World Cup in 2006 especially knowing that it was going to be his last tournament as our manager and even now I can still see a younger me, sitting in front of the TV hoping we'd win with 10 men after Rooney got sent off, Beckham went off with injury I think it was, just trying to will the team to victory despite whatever tactical, mental, physical etc flaws we had at the time, alas not to be.
Best wishes Sven to yourself and your family and friends. Thank you for some incredible memories both the good and the bad. You were the first manager I remember in charge of our national team and still possibly my favourite. All the best. Hopefully they can win the Euros for you this year.
Penalties are always a lottery sadly.
Life is precious and Sven has certainly had a life well lived. I hope he can stay healthy for as long as possible.
Joe Cole’s and Owen Hargreaves’s messages to him were lovely.
Thank you for the memories Sven 🏴
A true gent and a great manager. All the best, Sven.
What a man what a manger what a time for the England team and fans he took us on one hell of a ride the only one that made that team play as a team I don't think he knows how much we think and respect him thank you Mr Erickson you are a very special person from all English fans you will be for ever in our hearts God bless big man
F me, I am crying like he is part of my Family. This means more, YNWA Sven.
I went to Sven’s first and last game in charge of England. Got some great memories of watching England during those days. Love Sven
God bless you Sven.❤
This is nice to see. A bit of humanity.
Can't judge him by results, a quality man who has the respect from his former players.
All the best Sven
This makes me incredibly sad, but is also a must watch. What a lovely human being. I’m a Manchester City fan, and have been a season ticket holder my entire life, the season 2007-08 under Sven remains one of my favourites despite the recent success, he was a breath of fresh air & handled himself with absolute class through out, cementing him as one of my favourite ever City managers on top of being my favourite national team manager. You can see how much he is adored by all those that worked with him, from his time as one of the best in prime 90’s Serie A, to England & beyond. God bless you Sven.
What a guy, some great memories from my youth, always say Sven's diamond is one of my favourite formations.
Well done to everyone at Liverpool for giving him such a great day.
Thank you for this beautiful film, not dwelling on Sven's illness and capturing the essence of his humanity.
I was never SGE biggest fan, but that’s all forgotten.. A great interview, some super messages with a poignant tear 😢
I'm sure he'll be relieved to hear that you've forgotten that you weren't a fan. That's really big of you to forgive a terminally ill man. You are a true hero .
How could u not be a fan of sven though
I’m sure he relieved you’ve forgotten it now mate well done
Hargreaves call-up in 2006 was highly controversial due to his Canadian background. Sven stood up for him with the press and the public even when he was getting grief. Very beautiful relationship between them.
He was England's best player at that world Cup
Such a beautiful humility about the man. I lost my dad to cancer two years ago, and similarly to Sven, he didn't pity himself and kept going for as long as he physically could. Inspirational video.
God Bless You Sven 🙏
And Thank You for what you gave us as a Nation 🏴 England beating the Germans 5-1 on their own turf - Priceless❗️
👊⚽️👍
What a genuinely warm gentleman our Sven is. A wonderful interview, thank you.
All the very best wishes to you, Sven. Thank you for all you did for us. The 1-5 in Germany and Beckham’s free-kick are my two best memories in English international football. Two moments I’ll never forget.
Stay strong. ❤
It was thanks to that 5-1 against Germany that I fell in love with football. God bless you, Sven.
Thank you for your service to my country Sven. You are a kind, honest gentleman and I send you warmest wishes of peace and love. I hope that you discover great strength and positivity when the going gets tough. ❤
Gentleman of Football ❤
God bless you and your beautiful family Sven, Enjoy your moment at Anfield you absolutely deserve it. Legend
Bless him, great manager and a great human. In a job that attracts a lot of criticism and negative feelings, Sven was utterly beloved as England manager and, as sad as the current circumstances are, it’s nice he’s able to receive much-deserved love from all around while he’s still here.
England manager is a horrible job.
all the best sven the players let him down as england boss he deserved more what a nice guy
Very touching, best wishes Sven and thank you.
Sven is terminally ill. He is not going to get well.
His interview and story has changed my opinion on him hes a proper bloke and person greetings from Ireland across the sea Sven 🇮🇪
Loved Svens time at England, even though we didn't win anything and we had a strong team the so called "golden generation", but look at some of the other teams then. France, Brazil, Italy, all incredible. Portugal, Spain and Germany were no slouches then either. We had some moments that will be remembered forever, the 5-1, Beckhams free kick against Greece. Thank you Sven, I hope you live as long and healthily as possible.
Im not English, but i like to see other home nations do well, i always liked Sven, and he said he has a 'year at best'. England have the top talent in the world, but in my opinion, they've always lacked the team togetherness. 'Too many individuals' i often hear. Denmark in 1992 had togetherness. Croatia WC 2018 had togetherness. Italy 2006. Spain 2010. Portugal 2016. Again, im not English but im an outside observer... Sven clearly loves England, I suspect he is gutted that he 'failed' in his own word. He may not make the Euro final... but hopefully he does. If youre going to play for something as a team, with a common cause, play not only for your Country... #PlayForSven. Im sure that would mean the world to him in these difficult times. All the best in Euro 2024.
You are right England always has a team of individual players not a team. The only time post '66 we've had thst was the 5-1 against Germany. All the scorers were from Liverpool FC!
A great manager for us 🙏
God bless Sven 💙❤️
I always knew that Sven was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. And to watch him talk and reflect on his time, especially with England, shows how much he cares for us too. It was a tearful experience watching the players pay their respects to him, and it clearly meant so much much to him. Every fibre of me despises cancer, especially how it takes wonderful people far too young from this world.
I pray that all terminal cancer sufferers find the love and support they need, and the strength to face their final days peacefully. 🙏🏻
Legend. One of our very best managers.
Life is beautiful.
Quite right. Especially with great people…and great football.
Absolutely devastating!! May God bless you Sven. 🙏 ❤
All the best to Sven, he is such a gentleman. My grandma died of cancer at the age of 63 and her diagnosis was very similar to Sven's. She told me that it's such a void feeling, just waiting for the end. I was just a kid, but I'll never forget that chat we had, just months before she went.
God bless you Sven x
Those last few words he said at the very end when he was looking out while he sitting down touched. ❤️
Thanks Sven, good luck in your fight
What an amazing character, wish you the best of health moving forward Sven you brought us all amazing memories.
We had some memorable good times with Sven and some obvious heartbreaks, it was never an easy job in those times with the rival players in the squad. It's beautiful to see our country, Ex players, Klopp, the fans, supporting and celebrating his career during his final times.
Wow what a man. Forget the football, just what a genuine brave man. All the very best from 🏴
You made my childhood, supporting England was my distraction especially when I lost my Dad as a kid. Thank you for the memories!
God bless you, Sven. Stay strong, pal. Xx ❤
My thanks to you Sven for doing your best for England and contributing so much to the beautiful game. My best wishes 👍👊
