    This is brilliant with no cuts you were able to launch and retrieve in around 10 mins. I have waited at the ramp much longer than that watching someone back in a trailer. Also using the winch line to lift the front of the boat while pulling it forward is genius.

    Smart man , good you only pay one toll and dont have to worry about getting a flat on a trailer does not have to pay for a extra tag , great job , just one thing i think the truck shoul be closer to the dock but then it will be hard to walk around great job mister and you are saving hard earned money

    A pretty neat bit of rough engineering, but that does NOT look easier than a boat trailer. Still, an interesting concept. I'm guessing someone makes a well-engineered commercial version of this. Loading was much faster than the launch.

    For a short haul, just buy a trailer. But for taking the boat to a lake far from home and where you plan on spending a lot of time on the water while you are there or even towing a camper or something else, this is a good plan though an extendable bunk assembly could be a faster way to get the job done.
    I have a Ford E450 that I'll be installing a 16'x8' flatbed onto this year and plan to haul my 16' Starcraft on the bed rather than hauling my trailer on a long road trip. Plus it gives me the option of towing something else like a small camper trailer. My plan is to build a bunk assembly for the flatbed with extendable bunks and mount the assembly on a pivot point at the rear of the bed. Maybe even use a a couple drop-leg jacks to lift the front of the assembly. And since those jacks have around 30" of travel I could increase the amount of lift by mounting them toward the back a little. Could even install them upside down and link the two cranks together so I could raise them with a single crank handle...
    The drop-leg trailer jacks could take the place of the two rear supports on your current set up???

    Ok! How about a simplification? put the winch on the front of the truck with track rollers at pressure points or skid as you pull it up over the cab roller brace it will tilt for you and then just put back brace cross member or hooks and strap to hook and strap at the same time to hold in place ... hook and tighten front straps, tie motor, unhook cable or attach aerodynamic cover so no vibration at high speeds and you are done!! Also this way you can get it more level, more aerodynamic.
    Personally as small as this is I'd turn it around and pull up a bit, take the motor off, put in truck in cradle, then take cable from winch in front and run to the bow with stern on stop block. As it pulls it will lift bow up and over so it is upside-down and finish as described above. now you have a covered truck and can use the bed... hell put verticals with windows and you've got a camper, mount the motor under the back like the wind up old Mitsubishi or was that Toyota that had the wind up spare tire?? Now it is aerodynamic, won't fill with water and covers the truck and anything in it, especially how wide this boat is (wonderful) .. make the poles so they can extend and you can raise it up as high as you want for whatever reason... I'd make it a clicker type and just lift to the height you want and do the other end (vertical pipes holding up the other end) rig it so you can flip and it releases once you lift and then let it down... pop up camper....
    Well, my three cents worth. I have a sunfish sailboat (heavier) on top of a Subaru station wagon with roof rack. I place bow on the roof with the stern on the ground, hook the bow line to the opposite side of the front bumper then lift the stern and pivot, walk the stern around till over the roof equally. Strap it and the mast and sail with boom and I'm done.. I learned to do it stern first for proper positioning so I don;t have to slide and wiggle and all that to get it where it needs to go and it is a bit easier to lift the heavy end first and if help is available there is two side to grab and lift this way.
    The aerodynamics is safer and much more efficient on the fuel upside down.
    Blessings and thanks for the share!!

    Jim don't be deterred by all the negativity. I bet u got some other ideas that are cool. My grandfather lost his leg in WW2 and he had a wooden leg. He took me fishing with only him pulling boat off old car roof and then carried engine after he got boat in water and mounted. He also had a cool tv tower from power pole, he could tilt to repair. He was 80 when he took me fishing I was too young to help carry boat. He lived a great life, did not depend on Gov hand outs and had two homes.

  • @RayBlackburn

    Saves money on having to buy a trailer license and registrations
    I wanted to buy a 14 foot Jon boat but after looking up how much plus trailer and everything else I thought maybe I could get just a 12 foot boat again like before that I actually hauled on the roof of a car one time
    Now that I see this video I'm like, OK I can do that with my truck and have the 14 foot boat :)
    I was even thinking I would make mine where the boat rides level then saw how he was trying to do that with a scissor jack and thought no not like that I would put like a 50 pound weight in the front of the boat to offset the engine weight so once up there you could easily lift the back of the boat onto those poles
    That's a neat ideal ya had there Jim

    • @SteelyPaw
      @SteelyPaw Před 6 lety +2

      No, I think it's a public ramp. Instead of having a trailer for his boat like most people do, he concocted this method. For the $11.00 in the cost of tags, and fairly light maintenance, a trailer is so much nicer. He could have gotten a trailer from Harbor Freight Co. for around $125.00, assembled it and put a bed on it and used that to haul his boat plus other stuff. However, different strokes for different folks.

      Thanks Jim. I already have a 9000 lb winch that I use in both the front and rear hitch receiver, so that is what I will be using to lift the boat cart with boat. I will have a small boat winch for the cart. My boat loaded weighs about 700 lbs, so I think I should be good. I'll post a video when done in about June/July. I have now watched both videos about 3 times. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

      Don't be jealous now, just because you guys can't even build a birdhouse and don't own a grinder or welder. You shouldn't let other peoples smart engineering make you feel stupid to the point of getting defensive and insulting. I would love to see anything you guys have built, but that won't happen because there is nothing.

    • @nelsondln
      @nelsondln Před 6 lety +1

      Exactly, you sit behind your computer designing software. Where do you work, Wago? Rockwell? I have plenty of engineer friends at Boeing, and most likely like you, they can't change the oil in their car. What is an actual safety hazard is putting a power tool in a software engineers hand. Have you ever used a welder?
      Don't hate on the guy for being poor and creative, or making things at home. That is just ignorant. You're making fun of the philosophy of your own occupation.

    • @RealityIsTheNow

      nelsondln lol get real. You were the one coming in here making ignorant assumptions about the rest of us, claiming we couldn't build a birdhouse or something basic like welding or grinding for christs sake. You came in here on a high horse, shitting on others. And....what poverty? He's got a fucking _pleasure boat_ you witless twat, and a vehicle to transport it with. Stop making such a mockery of *actual* poverty by equating it to this halfassedness. Are you really so oblivious to the world that a man with the luxury of not only a car but a boat and the tools to build a haulout system is to you "poverty"? My comments about trailer parks are more to do with general ignorance and likely trumpkin status. I'm making no complaints about money.

    Incredibly ingenious, but is the savings on a boat trailer (and possibly where to keep it) really worth all that time, effort and activity we see? Also how far from the launch does he live because the front half of the boat is susceptible to wind resistance. There is no tie down of the bow to the truck. When I had my 22 foot Thompson on an E Z loader, I was out of the water, lights connected, tied down and on the road in 5 minutes.
    Still it is a incredibly clever design and space saver if necessary. You could even drag a travel trailer with that idea.

    Sorry. Interesting to watch , but not very pratical, or safe. Also very time consuming for most ramps. I agree, buy a cheap trailer.

      You're like the kid whose dad shows him how to catch and clean a fish, and the kid says "dad just buy it at the store". You incapable people miss the entire point of beauty behind engineering.
