Thanks! Best video for installing the Equalizer ever. So well done. I finally understand the theory of the bolt and washers. And very clear
Thank you so much! I’m glad it helped!!
I've had the same set up on mine for 4 years now. Works great! Although my truck is a 1/2 ton, it does squat a little more in the rear but my trailer is almost level which i was looking for. Yes the stuff is kind of heavy but that doesn't bother me at all.
Many "how to" videos can be a struggle to watch but one usually suffers through to get a golden nugget or two. Your video was down to earth and very informative. Your humor and willingness to show a misstep or two for educational purpose is appreciated. You have a natural delivery for instruction and did a great job. Thank you.
Thank you so much!! You're very welcome! I’m glad it helped!
I had to do all that in a parking lot behind an ice cream shop after purchasing our camper . I had watched your video the night before. I did ok. We just watched a truck pull in to this campground, No torsion bars, the trailer hitch was way too low, the truck rear was low because of no weight distribution. He also had no surge protection or water pressure regulator. He needs to watch this video, and others you may have. Great video.
Awesome, thank you!!
You know what that guy was doing?- he was minding his own business- you ought to try it sometime.
Industrial maintenance guy myself the most important tool in your toolbox is knowledge and one never quits learning and if you quit learning you become a useless tool.
Amen!!
No judgment here brother, outstanding tutorial. My bride and I are camper shopping now, so this is super helpful.
Awesome! Thank you!
Best video on weight distribution setup that I have found. Keep up the terrific work. You are helping lots of folks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!!
Good video. I had an e2 Equalizer hitch and was still super frustrated at how much sway I had. It made driving super stressful so I bought a Pro Pride and all my problems went away immediately. ZERO sway, tracks super straight, super quiet and I can drive down the road with one finger on the wheel if I want. If you’re frustrated, even with a good weight distribution and “sway control” hitch, look no further than Pro Pride. I’m just a regular customer and not an ambassador for the product. The one thing I hated was the price but if it saves my and my family’s life, it’s worth every penny.
Great install video. I used to use a hitch like that (husky), but let me say that the Anderson No Sway hitch has the equalizer (or any trunion bar setup) beat by 1000 times. No heavy bars to pick up and store, no complicated adjusting for different weights; just attach your base plate with chains and then crank the bolts tight. Takes 10 seconds to hook up and disconnect, and very easy to adjust for different tongue weights, you just crank the bolt tight one more thread.
Agreed, I use one also and love it
Sorry, but I had that system, and it sounded like an old creaking wooden battle ship whenever you made a slow turn. And in a nice quiet campground, it drew attention to you.
Running a different Distribution Unit but based on the same setup and principle. Your explanation was 100X better than the manufacturers written documentation and directions to get an individual to the exact same point. Thanks so much for this Dead Nutz how to!! Really enjoyed it 👍🏽
Awesome!! Glad it was helpful!!
Thanks very much for all the info. The dealership set up my equalizer hitch on the day I picked up my trailer. But now I know how to doublecheck that everything is right.
Awesome!!
The best video I have seen on equalizer hitch work and the reason you have to understand it. Please keep up the outstanding work and thanks a lot for doing the math as well.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you, thank you. I am glad you have this video for dummies like me that are too lazy to read the manual all the way thru. I'm sure I can now install it the right way after watching you do this. Happy trails buddy.
Your absolutely welcome! Happy to help!!
Great point by point instructions. Thank you
AWESOME VIDEO! THANKS, it just happens that I had to replace my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd duramax truck. I have 2012 Keystone Sprinter 297ret 34'11" long travel trailer with the same Equalizer hitch. My new truck is a 2024 GMC SIERRA 2500HD AT4 with 20" wheels as opposed to my 2008 with 17" wheels, which is going to require us to reset our current Equalizer hitch for this new truck. My wife says she is more than willing and ready to watch this video to assist me with the reset process for our Equalizer hitch. I don't remember the rv dealer, including the manual with the hitch. I'm glad I found your video. THANKS!
You’re very welcome! I also just got a new truck and need to reset my hitch. I plan on doing a follow up video on how to readjust this hitch when the weather breaks
THANK YOU! My trailer guy did this for me and I always thought it was wrong. Now I have a different truck and can probably set it up myself. I will add, those prison tools came with and I never had a clue as to what they were.
Awesome! Glad this helped!!
Ty Ty Ty, I'm a process kind of guy, and your step by step helped me a ton!!!!
You’re very welcome! Happy to help!
Thanx for doing all the work with the directions!
No problem 👍
Great video my friend, fantastic work. Love the detail!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks thanks to you I’m gonna set mine up myself 💪
Thats awesome! Glad I could help. Best of luck to you!!
Nice video. I was hoping that you'd show how to use the prison tool to remove the weight distribution arms.
From this video, I feel that I have found a new friend in the RV ARENA/Handyman ARENA.
Haha. Thanks! Welcome!
Man I need to get you to set mine up!! Great video and it was very to the point .
Glad it was helpful!
THE WEIGHT WAS OBVIOUS RIGHT AWAY-GREAT IDEA👍
Opps! AND YES! The Elec -CRANK/JACK while me drink me ☕️
Never get tired of THAT CRANK SOUND!
Kudos....Xcellent Video on how to install this particular hitch
Thank you!
Great instructional video. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
i put the same rims on my tundra. couldn't help but notice. might even be the same tires lmao. 🍻, nice video. just bought a 2023 flagstaff micro lite. researching hitches now, ty.
Awesome! Glad to help!!
Some one from dealership installed my hitch distribution and I think something is wrong after watched your video and I will fix it before go to my first camping trip.
Your video is very informative thanks .
Glad it helped!!
Don’t EVER trust a dealer to do ANYTHING right. All they care about is getting you out the door. Rule #1 when buying a camper.
@@ericstoner8635 I totally agree. Dealerships rarely have your best interest in mind. Plus, if you install it, you have the confidence knowing that it’s done right
I have the same one . I bought a new truck so i need to see how to adjust since when i bought my camper they did it for me
I use that size all the time so I have quadruples of most of them or four or five of them depending on what it is and my apprentice is dropping my tools. I just don't understand why you didn't bust out the electric tools. I wouldn't have went there with that. I wouldn't do it and my big boy battery powered impact and just you know weld on it. Good video! I definitely learned. I did not really know how to set one of those up till your video. So hey man I'm clapping and applauding. Thank you
Thank you! Glad it helped!!
This is a great video really clear instructions
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!!
Great Video, Thank You.
Glad you liked it!
Great work.
Thank you! Cheers!
thanks
You're welcome!
Awesome job thanks.
Thank you!!
I wouldn't pull my camper with anything but a e2 hitch. Screw chains. I just feel better with solid steel
focus you bloody thing LOL Great video! Thank you
Haha. Thank you!!
great job on video just what I needed Thanks
Glad it helped!!
Good video. I have the same wdh.
The brackets are mounted on the A frame, not the tongue.
Mister Fancy Pants and his Electric Trailer jack😂
The best way to know the level of the trailer is to mesure the corners of the frame
Nice job, thank you!!!
Thank you, I hope it helps!!
It did, I’m all about being safe and doing things the right way, and your video wasn’t you just blowing hot air and never getting around to the important details. Your on point brother👍🏼good job!
@@ATMartinez-ys9kc Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!!
Great video! Has anyone had the problem of bending the L-brackets?
That thing is fine if you dedicate it to one trailer. If you are hauling multiple rigs its WAY too much, plus you need an insane torque wrench that can put 380 ft lbs. of torque on the two main bolts ...... that's 380 lbs!
This was a great and informative video! The only question I have is do you loosen that jam bolt back after you tighten your hardware to let the hitch pivot?
No. You keep everything tight
Angle of the dangle 😂😂 I say that all the time
Lol!!!
Thank you doesn't seem good enough for all the trouble you went trough to make this awesome vid, but it's all I got, oh, and to Subscribe, which I did, so....THANK YOU!!!
Haha. Thank you!!
Now that you've gone through all this, what is left to do the next time you need to Hitch up and on hitch the trailer?
Thx for clarifying vs Curt's instr. You mentioned measurements are "close enough if you have airbags". Do you adjust using your bags? Also, you stated starting truck ball 1" above highest coupler measurement but instructions state 1/8" per 100 lbs. Which do you suggest? Thx Dan
I now understand what and why with my WDH! Thx !! Where did you get the glides for the trunions on the trailer brackets?
All the links are in the description of that video. Hope it helps!
@@dansproshop i didn’t see it the first time through. Found them for half as much on Amazon though.
Reese dual cam was the best that was ever made.
Hey man, amazing video!! Just a quick question for your knowledge. I don’t have a torque wrench but I have an impact. Will an impact work for something as specific as this? Or would it be too much torque? Thanks in advance. Very specific video!
A long ratchet or breaker bar will give you more torque than a typical impact gun. Maybe even grab a cheater pipe. lol I would suggest that.
Good Video and thanks for posting. I have a question about the brackets for the bars. How much adjusting can you do on those? We have adjusted the receiver but still have a lot of squat. Will adjusting the brackets help with that? Thanks
Yes, those brackets allow for about 6 inches of vertical adjustment. This will change the tension on the spring bars and in turn change the amount of tounge weight on your truck changing the squat. Higher the bracket is on the trailer, the more weight is on the bars instead on the ball. Hope this helps!
@@dansproshop Thanks that was what I thought. Need to do some major adjusting on the hitch on my new truck.
Great WD hitch cept they’re not supposed to be used with travel trailers that have underslung couplers like a lot of Jayco’s do.
I have a Jayco. How do I tell if it has an underslung coupler?
@@galaxiedave if the hitch is on top of the frame it’s not underslung. If it’s welded tot he bottom of the frame it is.
I need to find out is it better to run the red + wire from the electric jack with appropriate gauge wire straight to the trucks battery or install a separate battery somewhere on the trailer itself?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thks in advance sir!
Definitely hook up to the trailer. If your concerned about battery capacity you could always add a second battery in parallel or just leave the truck plugged into the trailer while using the jack to keep it charged up
Would it help to have a pipe cheater bar (extension) to help put the bar in the bracket. Age here is 77 and recovering from open heart surgery. I still have some upper body strength but watching you do it and strain a little makes me wonder if getting a cheater bar would help.
“Give me lever long enough and I could move the world” just make sure it’s set up correctly and I see no reason it would hurt!
Joe I have had equalizers for years and I like your presentation. I have come close but never got it where I am totally satisfied. Right now, can you show me in the instructions or where you got that the trailer hitch should be an inch lower than the hitch ball on my vehicle. Looking at equalizers CZcams they show even or close. My instructions copied from the website for my weight of 12,000 lb bars doesn't tell me. Anyway, I am going to follow your video. thanks My instructions are for 6k to 14k
Wonder what the measurements are on the trailer frame when all said and done with the finish?
Good question! I didn’t even think to check, the book doesn’t mention checking it again when you’re done. But it looks nice and level! lol
Omg i wish i knew about those nylon brackets. My camper is so noisy
They make such a huge difference! You still get the “drag” it’s designed for for, but almost no noise
@dansproshop I just ordered a pair and they will be here tomorrow.
@@dakotagrown8619 you won’t regret it!
Very well done. Precisely to the point. No unnecessary bs. Clear instructions. Keep up the good work. Definitely checking out the power jack turned 90 degrees. Sometimes it takes someone else to remind you how dumb you are. 😂
Haha. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Silencers, do they reduce the effectiveness of the sway control or suck reduction on highway? I have the E4 with silencers and never used it without them. Wondering if I'm trading noise reduction for effectiveness. Any insite?
I honestly have no clue. But it is a factory option from equalizer. So I would like to think they have figured it out.
I have a 15 foot travel trailer. Do I need to add stabilizer/sway bars?
It absolutely couldn’t hurt
Is the trailer Jack supposed to be in contact with ground & not on a block to take accurate measurements of trailer?
As long as it’s solidly supported it’s fine
Ignorant question, but how do you disconnect the trailer from the truck after this is installed? Do you have to undo the springs?
just lower the tounge jack to take the trailer weight from the truck and you can undo the spring bars easily
So everytime you unhook you have to do the spring bar tool thingie?
Yes, but it’s worth it!
Does make a difference on your tow vehicle. Have a 2023 Chevy 1500 and can lift the trailer without too much stress on the hitch and simply slide the bars onto the brackets.
How do you like your camper ? I have the exact one
Love it!
I also had to buy a reducer and I’m very unhappy with it. It is the short one that you showed. The problem with it is that the hitch pushes it too far inside so when I put the pin through it, the pin is going through the outside of the receiver and hitch but not through the reducer at all. To me that makes it less stable. What are your thoughts?
That’s exactly why I made my own. I strongly recommend
Where did you get the tubing to make your own reducer from?
Local steel supplier. But I’m sure you could get it on grainger or McMaster
@@dansproshop awesome. When I get my hitch I'll see how long the reducer is and go from there. Should be picking it up with the camper In a couple weeks. 👍🏻
How did you figure which holes to set the brackets on the camper? Was it in the instructions or did you just get lucky?😂
Honestly I just set them in the middle. Figured that would be a good way to start and it just worked out!
Are there any electric trailer jacks that raise quicker?
They all seem to be too damn slow
It’s because of the gearing. If it goes fast, it dosent lift any weight. The slower they go the more weight they can handle. It’s a trade of, but well worth it to have a robust gear box
I've looked at all the auto stores, they all have shitty 4 inch adapters.... can you make one? I'll be happy to pay with shipping... thx
how do you unhook your trailer, do you have to remove these bars somehow? 😮
Yes. Jack up the trailer to release the spring bar tension. Remove them then un hook. It’s not bad
@@dansproshop how loud is the hitch with the nylon pads?
@@steve4658not loud at all
I like the noise..it means my equilizer is doing its job...
I've set up this style hitch on atleast 4 different trailers. Never used a tape measure on the truck. I go by look and how the truck handles on the highway. Too many variables between trucks and trailers. Best way is road test and adjust to where you like it.
Level and flat are 2 different things
"That's manly" Lol
Weird. My comment from yesterday (1/17, about the sway-control bar) and your response have completely disappeared. 🤔
CZcams is funny sometimes. I have know idea how this stuff is controlled
I have had a Equalizer and a Pro Pride and I can tell you there is nothing and I mean nothing that is better than a Pro Pride hitch for totally eliminating sway period. Equalizer, still white knuckling, don't get me wrong it is better that most but not a pro pride.
you never showed how long the RV was ? good video tho :)
32’
I have a equalizer hitch that the drop down receiver broke and equalizer would not cover it and even claimed it wasn't their hitch. I would not recommend their hitch for anything.
A prison weapon, LoL, ya the prisoners hide them in their prison suitcase, LoL 😂.
First
Here's a tip regarding focus of the camera... It's 2024 and you don't need to write things down wasting an entire sheet of paper or notebook. Put the numbers down in a text editor on your cell phone.
YOU WILL BUCKLE THE TRAILER FRAME WITH THEASE ..
Huh? Why you say that
You have a good voice, but a crappy camera. Nice vid.
Thanks! Lol. I’m a mechanic not a film maker, but I’m trying!
The Anderson hitch is the one to go with. There is zero reason to use a hitch like this. Way too heavy for its purpose.
I have my Anderson hitch for sale. Great hitch for sway, but terrible for weight distribution
@@steve4658 possibly wasn’t set up correctly, mine works awesome.
@@sjfk1306 followed directions to a T. It is known that Anderson hitch only distributes about 400# of weight. Not enough for some applications. They are great for sway, but lack in weight distribution.
Nope nope. These hitches will crack your A-Frame. Seen it a dozen times. Buying bolt-on airbags for your trucks rear suspension and stand alone sway control is a much better option. Think about the physics. Where do you think the weight gets distributed to? It goes to about an 18” section of the trailer A-Frame 2-3 feet back from the torque down brackets. My welder friend repairs them often. Every time they have a cracked A-frame, they have your setup.
