I like how the world is being generated spontaneously, but it still feels structured, primarily by both Simon’s motivations, and the cold, hard dice. It’s really awesome. Also, Edbert’s catchphrase has got to be, now: “I’ve seen things like this before!”
I'll have to try and remember that. There's a *lot* going on in the show!
Edbert is by far my favorite character so far. Absolutely obsessed with ridding himself of his haunting, nothing touches his senses except that. He and Simon witness a demonic altar dripping in blood, and while Simon is shaken, Edbert is like, "Yeah, yeah, let's go. There's nothing here." LOL!
"there's no way he knows anything about this"
*rolls 09*
"he does!!!"
welcome to Me, Myself and Critical Die! :-)
Yeah, that was pretty comical.
Given that he has been haunted by a ghost for some time, it's likely that he did research on necromancy. That is why he knows.
09 + 91 = 100 btw
You are a brilliant inspiration for solo role playing. You obviously have an absolute ball in each session. Liking is inadequate. I bow in your direction. 🤣
I screamed at my monitor with that cliffhanger... what a place to leave it!
So did I!
Alas, it is fortunate that I watch this a year later when the tale has reached its finale.
A new regular channel for me now, late to the party but glad I found ya! 😀
I have to tell you how my first scene with Mythic started. It's a little comedic, but my elf fighter had a panic attack as she was having flashbacks of when she was a slave. I did ask the Fate Chart if the enslavement also had anything to do with the dwarves in my game, and I got an exceptional no.
Anyhow, my cleric decided to tell my elf to just breathe. And my elf fighter really didn't like that answer. With that, my cleric taught the elf how to wiggle her stress away by literally wiggling - letting your arms fly above your head and just letting it be.
It was a very wholesome scene actually. Just thought I'd share that. 🙂
I'm a little late to the party, but I've been catching up on this series and it is excellent! Thank you so much for running it. You make it so apparent that roleplaying solo can be just as epic and exciting as roleplaying with a group. Plus, you REALLY bring your talent as a voice actor (and many years of gaming) into this. If this was a podcast instead of a video, I'd be convinced there were several people playing as well!
All in all, thanks for making this, and I look forward to catching up!
Loving this, you have converted me! Started buying some of these books and I finally understand the mythic emulator :)
Yeah, I'm right with you, friend. I had heard about it but didn't think too much of it, relying on my own ability to write stories or come up with ideas. Well, a few weeks of wasted time trying to decide on a character I liked as well as a world I'd like to play in, the NPCs I'd like to have, etc., and after watching how quickly Mr. Devall was able to create interesting NPCs and a world, all using the random role ideas primarily from Mythic, has convinced me to just go for it. I do wish some of the books he references have more of a super hero element to them, as that's what I'm in to currently, but the more I watch, the more I'm willing to just roll with it anyways. Hopefully you've begun doing solo adventures on your own since you posted this comment.
Great episode! Love the mix-matching of all the various tables from different systems to make a game that is entirely unique and exactly what you need to create this story!
I definitely like that aspect to the game as well. He doesn't start out developing the game world entirely, but lets the Mythic GME do the heavy lifting for him. It frees Mr. Devall up to just play the game. This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for.
This story is amazing! Thank you for continuing the series and sharing your results with all of us, Trevor. Your gameplay has inspired me to continue my own solo RPG sessions!
This one was really good Trev. This is making me want to introduce more random elements into my game.
Wow, just wow. The way you weave this wonderful story from all of disjointed keywords (at least for me) when you use all of the tables and emulators is super fascinating. Love how you build the world on the spot
This is really making me want to pick up MGME
More, we need more!
Sending out some love for the algorithm on my re-watch of the series! Keep up the excellent work, Trevor!
Thanks for another fun episode! Can't wait to see what happens next week, so far it's going better than I expected, knowing Simon's track record. I was sure they'd arrive to the temple, only to find a whole army of undead ready to jump on their heads...
Great show
As short as incredibly good episode, Trevor!
Fantastic and an awesome place to leave to leave a cliffhanger. Next Tuesday can’t come quick enough.
Great cliffhanger! I'm really enjoying your continuing adventures of Simon the ever increasingly wrong-un of Argustan.
A bit late to the party, but I'm slowly catching up!
I'm so glad you made this series, I finally understand how mythic works and now have a number of books on my wishlist for when I get the cash.
Can't wait to see how things go in this series and (hopefully soon) my own solo adventures
I'm hoping mythic works well with Tiny Dungeon 2e , I guess there's only one way to find out though :P
The sound effects fit really well into the mood of the story. It just drags me along, keeping me close to the hearts of Simon and his companion(s). It was as if my own heart was beating in place of theirs.
finally able to watch this episode after a crazy week, I wonder how Simon Almost Died this week, or if Edbert survived
Nice episode. And a good cliffhanger to end on!
Absolutely brilliant!
Hah, the perk to watching this a week late is that I *know* that Simon will not die this time (because there is another episode waiting. Where Simon will almost die again...)
Or, perhaps you get another character roll up..? I've been waiting on it for sometime now, actually.
Got me rolling up random characters and playing Savage Worlds for the first time!
Fantastic! I just found this and have been on a bit of a binge.
Well, now I turned my son onto your series. You rock, buddy! Thank you for entertaining us so well!
Thanks a lot for all the work and effort you put into this. Love it
What a episode!
Great! Soloing here!
Really enjoying this so far. I need to give this a shot for myself.
Really loving this channel. Always makes me laugh and helps me get through long nightshifts. Keep up the great work.
great series
Esto es explotar tú talento y profesionalismo para alimentar las necesidades del rolero en solitario!
Gracias 👍
Found you thru Karak (ACG). Love it! Excellent work. You got a new fan.
Excited to watch this adventure! I was hoping he would’ve found a cleric but... :P
I promised I won't buy yet another RPG book, but it looks like I'll have to get Savage Worlds for solo playing!
I don't think you need Savage Worlds, per se, but rather the Mythic GME book. I have the PDF, but I'm sorely tempted to pick up a physical book, cause just like Mr. Devall, I prefer physical books to digital when it comes to gaming.
@@christophercobb8008 I've had a physical copy of Mythic RPG (Red book including GME) for several years now and it is my go-to oracle. What I have is an "analysis paralysis" issue regarding what actual RPG system to use (and stick to) in my games in addition to GME...
Yeah, that's my struggle as well. Some game genres just don't seem to lend themselves very well to solo role playing like this. Or I have RPGs that are "group" centric so they're not much better. Maybe I should just use the Mythic RPG. What are your thoughts of using it versus say Savage Worlds? Just watching these videos has already helped me get a good grasp of how combat works.
@@christophercobb8008 I have both the PDF and physical copy of Mythic GME. The PDF was useful to print out the Fate table and event charts for a quick reference.
Your DnD story drew me in. I'm enjoying the adventure 👣☠🔥
Darn. If I didn't know better, I woulda said you planned that cliffhanger! Dang!!!!
Oooooh no, what a cliffhanger! hahahahaahahha We need the next episode
you DO read them! even for older videos. i appreciate that.
Oh, good grief! That cliffhanger!
Just started watching this past week. I'm binge watching the series and channel. Love solo play. I built a system over 30yrs ago to do just as you have been but all in one place. But ya, I use anything within my grasp as well. Nothing wrong with an overflowing toolbox. Joy of DMing hundreds of tables each year and multitudes of worlds. You collect a trove that exceeds the gamespace.
When you rolled up Hobgoblins, my first thought was some kind of Hobgoblin dark shaman.
Often viewers who are also GMs will be watching the show, screaming out their own interpretations of the rolls at the screen. I think it's great.
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG Yeah, it's fun to see how you chose to interpret the results. I'm glad I came across your videos today cause had I just tried to use the Mythic GME without watching how you chose to interpret some of those rolls, I would have thought it was lame or otherwise lost interest. Definitely inspiring me to give it a whirl. And I finally got to the point where I figured out the thread aspect. In the game Mouse Guard they have a similar concept to threads that I thought were pretty nifty, but I had a hard time with Mouse Guard cause I wasn't altogether that keen on the game rules. I think I'm getting older and I'm beginning to get set in my ways, but the worst part is that those ways are game systems that aren't that interesting and conducive to solo role playing. Anyways, good stuff. Thanks!
My cat appreciated this video. So do I ;)
PS: She normally do not pay attention to such things, but this time she watched
Oh come on!!! Cliffhanger!!!!
WHAT is the thing that is coming?!!! 😱
Mwa ah ah.... tune in next time to find out!
Well, I'm glad that Simon isn't dead... yet... After a bit of watching I saw how close I was to the end and feared the worst.
Another useful tool for running or populating a random dungeon is Scarlet Heroes. I've had some success with it in the past.
Hey, thanks for the recommendation. That looks REALLY nifty at a glance. Will take a closer look at it.
@@christophercobb8008
I hope you find it useful!
Edbert literally the whole episode: I've seen things like this before
Mate, what kind of soldier were you? Have you actually seen things like this before, or is your ghost feeding you information and you just didn't want to elaborate further?
I thought the centipedes had returned with the hobgoblins asleep.
Oh yeah! Ah well, ya never know how things are going to go when you’re randomly determining things.
Perhaps I was to quick to judge Edbert, he's clearly seen some shit to know necromancer reading
You make this look so easy. Just curious... how much experience do you have using the GM emulator and other tools?
Thanks! I've used it over the years as inspiration for my live games around the table, and sometimes to help build adventures - but not a ton, actually. I have a lifetime's worth of miscellaneous RPG supplements kicking around that I draw upon.
Way late to the party .. but this is awesome
is there any type of character advancement. via the SW system..??
Simon might suck, but he is also a mensch. He basically wanders around healing everybody he comes across.
Please share the Simon’s character sheet and let us see why “he sucks”, lol
I'm planning on creating some videos that show exactly that!
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG What I find interesting is that you've spent no time increasing Simon's stats or abilities to make him better. I think it keeps the element of "he sucks" alive and well.
@@christophercobb8008 Keep watching. He gets upgrades, as per the rules.
IS it a lich?? ((no it's not we know it's not))
out of interest Trevor, each episode is about 45 mins long but how long/much do you record before you edit it down (or do you even edit it down) before you are happy with it..
It’s about a 3:1 ratio. So if I shoot for an hour and a half (which is typical), I’ll get a 30 minute episode out of it.
Thanks Trevor..... Maybe you will do a blooper reel one day just for the hell of it
If you mute the video and ignore the dice rolls, his hair, glasses, and animated talking while referencing books and jotting stuff down, makes him look like some manic scientist on the verge of a new discovery if he could only figure out that damned formulae!
You don't read them! Not them all 😊
But...but... I read *this* one...
;)
@@MeMyselfandDieRPG Doh! 'tis true then lads. He reads them all 😀
