Well😅, this season certainly hit its stride in episode 4. Holy crap was i glued! Speaking of hitting it's stride, loving the refinement of the combat mechanics.

Your enthusiasm, imagination and the new gameplay being invented is just so exciting it is difficult to wait for each episode

Very cool.... I feel like there's a heck of a lot more intrigue in this season.... season 1 and 3 featured a heck of a lot more epic action, but this one seems to be balancing intrigue, social interaction and action. But that's cool.... it's keeping the action focused on Thragg and Veil which is cool. Love the action encounter in the inn..... so scary. :)

This episode took a quite the turn. Veil not being able to save the assassin's makes sense because she herself is an assassin and she did a good job out of instinct, attacking her targets in such a way it's hard to render medical aid.

I love the thought of you creating your own RPG, as I’ve really enjoyed all the seasons! I really liked your episodes on Harn and the mechanics here feel similar. However, I would really appreciate some solo guidance to be implemented, along the lines of Ironsworn or some of the Free League supplements. Perhaps I need more help than most solo players, but I’ve found that for me the easiest RPG’s to solo have thought of the solo player from an early stage.

I love your stuff Trevor. I will say, this new system is too crunchy for me, but I do hope you get what you want out of the kickstarter. I must also admit I miss the old days of you just being you and doing weird stuff in other RPGs.

Thank you for showing so well the good and bad sides (pun intended) from the main systems. Sadly my favorite so far is the Forged in the Dark system (Blades in the Dark and associates) and that was barely mentioned, but to step away from spreading disiformed takes is probably the right call. Very informative and succint anyway, you really sold me the appeal of the percentile system games.

You need a player aide with a flow chart for the step-by-step rounds and actions that cab be taken and special rules to be used

I’ve been playing Dnd and Gurps for a while and i want to start GM’ing! I want to start by running a one on one game for my SO, does anyone have a good recommendation for a system where this is easy? I’m excited to learn more :)

It is worth noting that the West Marches concept is *extremely* similar to the Open Table play of the Lake Geneva and Twin Cities crowds back in the day. This kind of thing is essentially the foundation of the hobby. It was the West Coast crowd (and later TSR itself, especially come Dragonlance) that led to D&D being run in a significantly different way. All styles have their place imo.

I just came across this video. Yea, I had ALL the Merp in the 80's up unto the late 90's when ICE folded. Still do! The later stuff edited by Chris Seaman was particularly good. I ran a MERP game for my weekly group about ten years ago. Our "Power Gamer" had his hip crushed in the first combat round and had to be carried around on litter for weeks of game time. :)

Thank you for doing this. I'm just starting my own Irornsworn campaign in a more high fantasy world, and I'm still a little unclear about some rules, but watching this has already helped me with how to properly undertake a journey.

D&D is a prime example of a game system that just teaches DMs to run combat conflict most of the time. It's sad, because the D&D rules aren't good for much of anything else other than hack-n-slash combat. In almost every D&D or Pathfinder tournament I've been in, it's always about playing 4-5 hours with three to four scenes of combat. I think constant combat scenes are also a big turn-off for female gamers who would prefer more of a balance in roleplaying.

Agreed! Because a d20 is too dramatic, it does not model skill level very well. I also don't care for roll-under systems at all. A HIGH Strength number is GOOD. A LOW Strength number is BAD. Roll under your Strength score. Ok, now I have to think in the opposite direction. A LOW number is GOOD and a HIGH number is bad. As plainly observed, the numerical GOOD and BAD psychology in roll-under systems counters itself and creates confusion. Number psychology is an important consideration in game design. Die psychology is also an important consideration. Dice that roll longer (roll time) create more on-edge excitement than a die like a d4 that does not have any roll time. A large and single d100 would have the most roll time (although annoyingly too long), while a d20 would have the second highest roll time. Dice like the d20, d12, and d10 are the best dice for creating on-edge excitement with roll time.
