I was amazed when I saw the strava post that they were able to map out a 50mi route in the hills that only racked up 6400ft vert. Great job, and nice video too. May inspire me to pull the trigger on that above the clouds baby ultra down in woodland park this fall.
My first thought was "only 6400 ft vert?!" But then because the trails are so runnable, that wears on you differently. It wasn't an easy race but it was also epic! Good luck with your training and if you share a video from your race, I look forward to that as well.
We did that race last October! It was fun and a very nice course, we made a video about it if you needed to see the course flow. Would recommend, if you do it, we wish you the best of luck!
“I wouldn’t trade it though. I would not trade it.” That hits like a sledgehammer. Even on the miles I don’t enjoy, I wouldn’t trade those moments for any moment in the office. Congrats buddy. Well fought and well earned finish.
Good effort Chad, 23rd is still a great result 😀 That single track almost looked like a bike trail in places. I do love fresh fruit on a long run, so those strawberries looked amazing, especially in the heat ☀ As for that burger! 🍔
A lot of those trails are also bike trails. They were a blast to run and would be phenomenal to mountain bike (especially on the downhill!). I wish I would have had more of an appetite for the whole hamburger. I ate what I could and it was yummy, but my body wasn't quite ready for a full-on meal. Thanks for watching the video.
Congrats on your race! I also raced, my first 50 miler, and had a good time. I've never gone more than a 50K so I wasn't surprised to be suffering late into the race. I liked that it was runnable, for the most part, but the last 10 miles were definitely a grind. :)
Congratulations! 50 miles is a big step up from a 50k and requires a whole different level of perseverance. Those last 10 miles were hard, but the whole course was beautiful.
Awesome Video Chad! Love the recap! Nice work out there! I’ve ran a 24 training run on much of the course and dude it took it out of me too! Like you said the fact it’s runnable, but also all the little climbs and rolling descents take it out of you! Also my past few longer runs in the heat have been taking it out of me!
Was definitely the combination of all those things that made it so difficult. But like I said, I wouldn't trade the experience. I would totally run this race again! Makes me wonder how fast I can run the 50k!
Yeah, buddy! That looked totally runnable. Great race! My first and only 50-miler was totally runnable throughout and only had 2000 feet of vert, but it sure did wear me down by the end. Hope our little training run on Monday before your race didn't affect you!
I'll claim ignorance on Monday's run and wouldn't trade the miles. The race was awesome even if it wore me down! I'm proud of my effort and hope this video inspires others.
Thank you my friend! It was fun to have you out there hyping all the runners up and of course announcing their accomplishment at the finish! I appreciate all you do!
We feel the same way, I’m very sore for some reason. it’s a beautiful trail lots of rolling. My target time was 10hrs but finished 11:04 I don’t understand why this race seems like so hard compared to my other races. Good job for crushing it.
I"m getting caught up on my CZcams que lol. Congrats on your race! Well done. I'm so glad you filmed it. I've been hiking in the Buffalo Creek and Pine areas for many years and I'm really hoping I can sign up for the 50K next year. As an oldie I would for sure be a back-of-the-packer and am totally happy with that. The course looks like something I could handle (I say that with reservation :)) but I know how 'trail looks' can be deceiving, ha. Hoping I can train on sections of the course. Really enjoyed the video, thank you!
Nice video, great race, looked beautiful! Did you really drive yourself out there in the morning, run 50 miles over 10 hours, then drive yourself home? Brutal!
Haha! I did! Woke up at 3:00 a.m. and then headed out the door, ran for 10 hours, and then drove home. It was a little brutal but I got it done 🙂 And that Mountain Dew on the car ride home was super refreshing and delicious!
Well done Chad! I am curious to know how the VJ Maxx 2 did overall? Did you benefit from their lighter weight? Was there enough cushion? Did you wish you had chosen different shoes in hindsight?
The shoes were a great choice! The lightweight helps keep my feet moving fast, the cushioning was sufficient enough (but my feet did start to get a little tired... May not have been because of the shoes), and the upper felt comfortable all 10 hours. Oh, and the grip/lugs were perfect! All in all, the shoe really reminds me of my last favorite trail shoe, Adidas TERREX Speed Ultra (from 2022/2023) but with a rock plate and even better grip but with a slightly less breathable upper.
@@SeeChadRun I also loved the old Terrex Speed Ultra! I still have a second pair unused which I bought on EBAY. Seems like I would love the Maxx2. My feet are narrow and I love shoes which are narrow at the midfoot, like most VJs are as well.

The way you encourage each runner, that's awesome.
Encouraging them gave me encouragement as well! Haha

Congrats on the finish! Colorado is so beautiful in the summer.
Colorado is a beautiful place! I love all of the trails here and feel very fortunate. Thanks for watching the video!
Congrats Chad! Beautiful course and running the entire 50 miles is tough, 100% agree. Well done with a top finish!
Thank you so much my friend! It was a beautiful course and one that I would absolutely recommend.
Wow what a race and course! You crushed it! Great video Chad, that elevation made me out of breath just thinking about it!
Haha! Glad you enjoyed the video. It is a beautiful course and one that I'd totally run again!

Thank you! Well done yourself! It certainly is a beautiful race/course. Appreciate you checking out the video and saying hi.

Oh, plus they matched the outfit, so there's that too 😁🤣
