One thing all billionaires have in common is a fragile ego. Tony would never give up creative control because it would be tantamount to admitting he couldn't cut it. He's the ultimate fanboy and craves praise from his fanboy minions.
He does need to do that. He feels he has to do everything himself and that's his downfall. The more he tries to do himself, the less focus he has to make it great.

There are many instances where that Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic award does not make a lot of sense & this is one cuz 1.) What about any of this Vince stuff was a promotional tactic on the company's part & 2.) He literally forced him back in to the fold

What a dumb award to have anyway. Can you imagine ESPN or Sports Illustrated having an award for "Most disgusting X"? Every team in every league in every sport would refuse to give them press availability.

Triple H winning the booker of the year award is well deserved, he has done a fantastic job with WWE and since he has taken over the creative, the shows for the first time in many years have become watchable to the point that they're actually dare i say enjoyable now. Many congratulations and keep up the good work
Every show, you have characters with stories, everything is meaningful in every WWE show. Triple H has been the best booker ever since he took over. I love his booking, from top to bottom, there are stars and stories.

To be fair he hasn't done much in 2023. He was only barely active for 3 months total. But this list is pretty much a nothing burger for me just by looking at the "disgusting promotional tactics" category.

Most disgusting promotional tactic was an embarrassing list. Dana White slapping his wife while promoting Powerslap or the Cocaine spot should’ve been the one to dethrone the Saudi deal’s streak.
There's nothing about Tony Kahn that leads one to believe he'll critically reflect on his approach to booking.

Aew booking was so great in the beginning that it makes me wonder how much of that was Cody Rhodes, when Tony was given the award it was basically during the pandemic and there wasn't many promotions out there let alone thriving so I think that makes sense and I feel like a lot of people miss that perspective

My theory is that Cody had A LOT more clout and influence in AEW than he likes to let on. It’s not a coincidence how all of the company’s troubles started unraveling when him and Brandi were gone.

@dominoep I don't think that's true. There's definitely a difference in the product, it's very clear to see from the first 2 years to now. Also ppl did want an alternative, so many forgot how bad WWE was and how long that product drag.

They said they were going to be Sports based or presented then got rid of the rankings and had things like Matt Hardy coming out of a pool during a match as another version of himself...

Well, Punk even being on the list for promos can speak volumes. Not because it’s an objective surprise, but this is Meltzers readers who pay a fee. They’re HUGE AEW marks, and to them, Punk is Satan incarnate (also, the time off could be used as another reason, but what he gave us was always pure gold). That’s also why it’s extra damning that Tony lost booker of the year, even THEY can’t ignore how “meh” the product is right now.
With the Mortal Kombat comparison, Nick Khan is now Shao Kahn.

I don't know much about New Japan, but what did poor Sanada do to win 'Most Overrated' (pushed to the detriment of the product, Solomonster) when TYRUS was NWA champion? Also, MJF & Adam Cole winning some 'worst' awards for the Devil storyline is a shame, because the bromance was an amazing storyline.

Queen's Quest vs Oedotai's cage match was amazing. The story, the build, the work, and the emotion put in were fantastic. If you are a Stardom fan and were there for the entire ride you know how good it was!

I agreed with HHH winning booker of the year. Even though HHH's bookings is not perfect, but it's a little better than what TK is booking on his AEW shows. TK's bookings had been a hit and miss nowadays. Whenever he had something good, but ended up finding a way to screw it up such as the last minute bookings of All In and All Out, and The Devil storyline. His bookings on the women's division was worse than before. Worst of all, TK usually booked big dream matches with no story build-up to it. Sometimes, the matches that he booked was just thrown together that is nonsensical. The main problem with AEW is lack of long-term bookings. HHH knows how to book long-term storytellings. That's why Raw and SD shows are getting better without Vince's involvement. HHH always turned something negative to a positive, just take The Judgement Day and Gunther's IC reign as an example. So no, TK doesn't deserve to win booker of the year.
I have to agree. TK had not booked Dynamite and Collision consistently last year. He wasn't up to snuff. Triple H was way better. I actually got interested in watching WWE again (even Triple H and WWE have been stealing some ideas from AEW lately) If it wasn't for Swerve and Hangman Page beefing for the title and Sting and Darby, I could be interested in watching AEW Revolution. I really hope with this Big Business event he is about to put on, he really shakes things up. I would love for him to bring in Scott D' Amore.
@@TheDumontShow TK did had some good stories such as Hangman vs Moxley feud, Swerve vs Hangman feud, Christian Cage vs Edge feud, and MJF vs Bryan Danielson feud. The Don Callis family vs Kenny Omega feud could've been good, but the momentum got ruined due to Kenny being injured again, same goes for the Devil storyline.

so Oedo Tai is pronounced. Oh-Ee-do. I watched that match and Stardom Bias aside I still think it was better than Sheamus, Gunther, and Drew because it has a long running story literally all 12 woman shined in that match and had done something of note and the storytelling in the match was very strong.

The thing about the Jesse/Hogan heat about unionization is that basically every single top guy would’ve done the same thing because it would mean less money in their check. Bret, Shawn, Austin, all would’ve done that to protect their spot and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.
I honestly don't have a problem with certain wrestlers not making the top 10. It just means that it's much more top talent in the mix and we should be good for the next 5-10 yrs with this talent pool.
Regarding Swerve on Most Improved, I think he completely evolved his character work, where he didn't do much before but had good matches. Similar to Dominik who's ring work is still kinda whatever but the character completely evolved.
Booker of the Year, Promotion of the Year both go to WWE. But somehow Smackdown is third in "TV show of the year" and Raw is nominated for "Worst TV show". You can tell WWE fans only bother voting on the big ones...

It was. And this is from a guy who watches AEW regularly. Triple H was turning the wheel but it wasn't until that TKO deal, he was free to unleash his creative talent. Which we are seeing right now. He managed to inject himself into the biggest match of WrestleMania without doing so. That in itself is brilliant. WWE worked us with Cody and Rock. We got worked and I loved it. The crowds are heavily invested into a lot of the matches going into WrestleMania. You gotta give the title to Triple H as Booker of the Year

I will say generally, wwe sports entertained me for the most part in 2023 while AEW did now. AEW had some big moments such as the Ftr bullet club match on collision (which should be talked about more), but wwe was cooking something fierce when it comes to building stars. The amount of talent on this roster is nearly unheard of. It’s so deep that everyone is fighting over who gets the titles. It feels like anyone could win a title from Sami Zayn in the mid card to Cody Rhodes at the top.
I guess Tony's check to Dave Meltzer must have bounced. I hope his $ hasn't been cut off.

I have a HUGE issue with AEW Dynamite winning best show of the year. The issue I have is that I would much rather watch wrestlers wrestle a 3-Star match with a storyline that I can forget about everyday life & suspend my belief in, than watch a 5-Star match or "Dream match" where I would just get to watch 2 wrestlers roll around doing cool moves in their freaking underwear & have no idea WHY I should CARE?!
I think the reason why the wyatt/la knight match was the worst match this year is mostly because of a) the amount of hype to the match and b) being this is the first match since wyatts return

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE what Christian Cage does but... How isn't mocking real people who died in the most disgusting promotional tactics category? I'm not saying he needed to win, but at least show up? Again, I dont care, its crazy entretaining but the WON has given this award before to this kind of gimmicks, from exploiting the dead of Eddie Guerrero to Brian Pillman and others.
